What 885 owners told NHTSA about the 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4-door

My vehicle caught fire while parked in my driveway and burned to the ground resulting in a totaled vehicle, damaged garage, and damaged concrete and driveway

July 2024 – driving over 40 mph the Rubicon on a busy two-lane highway with my [XXX] and lost all acceleration. Interior warning lights started flashing with the warning, “Service Electric Throttle Control.” As this was up hill, there I nearly started going backwards and two vehicles swerved around me as I was able to pull over. As cars honked that drove by, I turned the vehicle off which was at this point, making a rattling/wobbling noise. I turned the vehicle back on and off at least three times, with hybrid vehicle working. As I was two miles from home, I was able to get back with the vehicle dropping acceleration (with no horsepower and no ability to go on gas mode) twice until I rolled back in basically neutral. We called USAA to have the vehicle immediately towed to Jeep Rairdon in Kirkland, WA. Jeep Rairdon said they would do an inspection three days later where they will assess if we can get a loaner. Today this morning I parked, put the gear in park and all of a sudden the car ravaged up and jumped forward, causing me to go through a fence and stopped. I had my foot on the break the whole time.

There were no indications or warning lights, saw black smoke coming from the engine compartment by the time I pulled over and got out of the vehicle it was on fire and within minutes the entire car was engulfed by flames and it was a total loss

2021 JEEP WRANGLER. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO FUEL TANK ISSUE. THE CONSUMER STATED WHILE DRIVING, THE VEHICLE BEGAN SMOKING AND WENT INTO LIMP MODE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO HADN'T DETERMINED THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE AFTER 6 WEEKS. THE VEHICLE HAD 2,845 MILES.
