My 2020 Porsche Taycan 4S (VIN [XXX]) has a recurring, dangerous brake failure that remains unresolved after multiple dealer repair attempts. At low speed, the automatic emergency braking system activates on its own and begins decelerating the car. As the car slows to roughly 5 mph, the brake pedal drops, braking pressure disappears, and the vehicle keeps rolling forward. Pressing the pedal as hard as I physically can does not bring the car to a stop. On more than 5 occasions I have had to steer around the vehicle in front of me to avoid a collision. The failure is intermittent and unpredictable, which makes it especially hazardous. The problem has existed since early in my ownership. On [XXX] (16,631 miles), Porsche Livermore found multiple brake booster faults and replaced the brake booster assembly, re-bled the brakes, and recoded the PSM control unit (RO [XXX]). The dead-pedal emergency-stop failure continued. I returned on [XXX] (40,904 miles) for the same problem; the dealer recoded the PSM unit and reset the brake pedal value but classified the pedal travel as "normal" (RO [XXX]). I returned again in May 2026 (46,585 miles) reporting that the dead-pedal emergency-stop failure still remained. The dealer could not duplicate it and called it "operating as designed" (RO/Invoice [XXX]). No crash or injury has occurred only because I was able to take evasive action each time. The defect is unresolved and creates a serious risk of a crash, and I am reporting it so it is on the federal safety record. The tungsten carbide coating on the PSCB (Porsche Surface Coated Brake) rotors has failed at 44,000 miles. This is not normal wear. The Taycan’s regenerative braking system handles the substantial majority of deceleration under normal driving conditions, meaning the mechanical brakes on this vehicle have seen a fraction of the use they would on a comparable internal combustion vehicle at the same mileage. Coating failure under these conditions is consistent with a material or manufacturing defect. Porsche has issued Technical Service Bulletins addressing PSCB disc replacement on the 2020 Taycan, indicating this is a known issue. Porsche Cars North America was contacted twice requesting goodwill consideration and denied both requests, citing warranty expiration without addressing the vehicle’s braking profile or the existence of related TSBs. The cost of OEM PSCB rotor replacement is approximately $7,500–$10,000 including labor. No safety-equivalent aftermarket replacement exists for this proprietary system, leaving owners with no practical alternative to the full OEM repair cost.

I brought my vehicle in to a Porsche dealer on May 24th 2025 for a noise coming from the front right wheel area. There were some other issues but those were not safety related. They stated the vehicle has an open recall campaign for a brake hose. That there is a risk it could break. It is now July 18th 2025 and the dealer has had the car the entire time since May 24th 2025. They are saying they can't complete the safety recall due to no parts. Porsche has issued a STOP order for dealers selling affected vehicles. Porsche has issued a STOP order for dealers to use affected vehicles as loaners. It seems I should STOP driving the car as well yet the dealer indicated it is to give it back to me unrepaired.

Porsche Taycan has been plagued with recurrent electrical issues despite 2 factory recall messages and reported fixes. The car screen and gauges all blacked out while driving despite reportedly fixing this electrical problem. Further a serious brake issue occurred (pedal going all the way down making harsh sound) within 2 years. If that’s not enough the car had an “serious electrical system” error message with yellow battery “requires service” and been in the shop for 4months and they apparently cannot fix it. These are all major safety issues for a brand new car within the first 2 years of purchase.

After the most recent recalls were repaired (all software) on my vehicle the brakes in the car were terrible. Soft /dead pedal feel. I almost rear ended other cars multiple times wen braking at slow speeds. Occasionally the pedal would go all the way to the floor when slowing to 3-5mph - This was consistent over multiple days after I got the car back from recall updates. Also , the first inc of brake pedal travel did not slow teh car at all.

Was driving on freeway at 70mph and car suddenly lost power ....we were in furthest lane and had to attempt to get the car to safety on a busy LA freeway by crossing 4 lanes Extremely scary as had my children in the car... My family now refuse to get in the car for safety concerns Thankfully traffic wasn't at its peak as if it was i dread to think what would of happened

My 2020 Taycan Turbo was purchased brand new by myself July 07/ 2020, and has had a tremendous amount of problems and issues. All are documented and have photos as proof. The car is available for whomever wishes to inspect it. One of the more recent issues was the car - without warning - while I was driving, not functioning and I wasn't able to turn the wheel, use the gas pedal, the brake or anything. Nothing in the car was operable. After it coasted ( I was almost rear ended but luckily the other driver veered off the road to avoid a collision.) the brakes decided to work. A red light came on which reads " Engine Control Error, Park vehicle in a safe place " , along with photos of 2 cars with exclamation points on them. Also illuminated was a photo which shows a photos of a drive train and 4 wheels. After turning the car on and off several times, the car decided it would operate. I drove it to the dealership. More comments and issues to be added. - Numerous - Have photos of All

How to use these: a complaint is one owner’s report, filed voluntarily and published unverified. Patterns matter more than any single story. If several owners describe the same failure at similar mileage, put that system at the top of your pre-purchase inspection list. Back to the full 2020 Porsche Taycan Turbo S verdict →
