My car was parked at home and hadnt been driven in hours. My neighbor contacted me, saying that my car was on fire. I went outside, and it was on fire, and the fire department was called. After BMW conducted an investigation, they deemed the car fire to be related to the active recall. The manufacturer (BMW) is violating the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act (49 U.S Code Section 30120) by refusing a "remedy without charge" for recall 24V-536. A manufacturer is required to provide a remedy for a safety recall "without charge." BMW is offering a loan payoff (21,851.37). This current offer violated this federal statute by forcing me to absorb the loss of my 2500 down payment and accumulated equity. Additionally, Case Management is threatening to revoke my essential transportation (loaner) unless I sign a settlement that omits a verbally promised 4,000 credit buy with non-complaint conditions: it is a restricted discount only valid for future BMW purchases, it was omitted from the legal contract that I am being pressured to sign, and it places burden on me, the victim, to find a replacement vehivle while threaten to revoke my loaner transportation. This is a clear attempt to bypass the federal requirement for a free and complete remedy for a dangerous safety defect. I have attached a picture of the fires along with the fire department report, and the email thread between Case Management of BMW and me. On March 25, 2026, I was offered a loyalty goodwill of 4,000 after the purchase of a BMW from their dealership. March 26, 2026, I was told to contact my loan finance company to inquire about a collateral substitution. After I emailed the CEO and VP of BMW executives, I was then asked about what car I was interested in as a substitute for collateral. March 31, 2026, I am told to coordinate with the dealership as well because the BMW corporation doesn't coordinate with the dealership about the substitution of collateral.

The contact owned a 2020 BMW 330i. The contact stated that while accelerating from a complete stop and making a left turn, another vehicle, trying to beat the light and driving 60 MPH, crashed into the driver's side of the vehicle. The contact was trapped because the front driver's side door failed to open. The air bags failed to deploy. The police officers delayed their arrival, and a police report was not filed. The contact was in shock. The contact drove to the residence and was able to exit the vehicle through the front passenger's side door. The contact sustained C8-T1 nerve injuries, spinal injuries, and underwent surgery, developed myelopathy, severe PTSD, severe whiplash, and the contact sustained right eye bruises after hitting her eye against the steering wheel. The T1 neck screw that was previously installed in the contact's neck had backed out due to the impact and was replaced. The contact was informed that she nearly sustained paralysis due to the crash impact. The vehicle was taken to an autobody repair shop, and the vehicle was totaled by the insurance company. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and sent an engineer who performed the vehicle inspection. The manufacturer later sent a letter to the contact, providing an engineering explanation for the air bag's failure to deploy. The failure mileage was approximately 6,500.

I started my vicheal up and turned the heater on on my 330i 2020i bmw I sat there for about 15 mins and noticed a smoke smell I stepped out my car and realized my car was on fire! No sensors went off saying car had any issues regarding coolant or engine oil or anything so I have zero idea what started my car fire Police and fire rescue was there Fire investigation is making a report an insurance representative will be inspecting From what I see online bmw was been having issues with 3 series randomly catching fire either by faulty water pump? By a short circuit? The vicheal is completely totaled my safety was at risk if I wouldve started driving and didn't notice it would've been way wrose than what happened unsure where insurance will be taking the vicheal to

I have been in the motorcycle industry 1988-2000 and the auto industry since 2000 to current, a break for about 10 years in there. I am fairly mechanically knowledgeable. On 8/1/2 was showing a customer a BMW 330I that we had in inventory. The customer sat in the driver's seat, started the engine and popped the primary hood latch. I was at the front on the vehicle. Since I deal with every make, model and years finding the secondary latch release can be challenging. Initially, I felt under the hood at the center, not finding it I proceeded to feel my way down both sides of the hood. Still not finding the release I inserted my right hand into the grill at first grill opening center right (drivers side). I was feeling inside to find the elusive release. About 1-2 seconds of feeling around I felt the a pressure against my hand. There isn't much space in the grill openings and very quickly I could not remove my hand in time, it was pinched between the vertical grill vent and, at that point unknown, active grill venting. My hand was stuck and the active grill venting continued to close since it indicated the cycle was not complete. I was stuck and it was very painful. My right was stuck in the first opening and I tried to overpower the electric motor with my left hand on the second grill opening (drivers side) I could not overpower it. I slowed it but it continued trying to close. I told the customer that I was stuck and in pain and that I needed help. I could not pull hand out since it was never intended to have a hand in there, the edges where sharp plastic on the inside, almost like a barb. It took me, being one handed and both his hands pushing on the vents to over power the system. Without the second adult male, I was trapped. Issues: 1. excessively overpowered 2. no reverse sensor like auto up passenger windows 3. no break-away safety system

Car was t-boned by another vehicle at 65-70 MPH (other driver was cited as negligent and responsible for accident)—and other driver’s car caused damage to the BMW and driver (my daughter) due to the side airbags on the BMW not deploying (damage to daughter would have been significantly less had the BMW side airbags deployed as they should have upon impact).

MY VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN A DRIVEWAY. PRIOR TO PARKING, I HAD FOLLOWED THE MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO HAVE MY CAR MEMORIZE THE LAST 100 FEET DRIVEN IN ORDER TO USE THE BACKUP ASSIST FEATURE. WHEN I STARTED MY VEHICLE, I ACTIVATED THE BACKUP ASSIST FEATURE FOLLOWING THE MANUFACTURERS INSTRUCTIONS. MY VEHICLE RESPONDED ACCORDINGLY AND THE BACKUP ASSIST FUNCTIONED NORMALLY FOR THE FIRST FEW SECONDS. THE BACKUP ASSIST THEN DISENGAGED AND MY CAR ACCELERATED BACKWARDS, WENT OFF ITS TRACK AND BACKED FORCEFULLY INTO A BRICK WALL BEFORE I COULD APPLY THE BRAKES. DAMAGE TO THE REAR OF THE CAR WAS EXTENSIVE. I DID HAVE THE CAR EVALUATED BY BMW ENGINEERS FOR POTENTIAL DEFECTS IN SOFTWARE OR SENSORS, BUT I WAS TOLD THAT THE SYSTEM FUNCTIONED AS INTENDED. MY RESPONSE IS THAT THE SYSTEM IS INHERENTLY UNSAFE IF IT CAN DISENGAGE AND ACCELERATE IN REVERSE WITHOUT DRIVER INPUT. IN ADDITION, MY VEHICLE IS STILL IN THE REPAIR SHOP AWAITING CERTAIN PARTS FROM GERMANY.

How to use these: a complaint is one owner’s report, filed voluntarily and published unverified. Patterns matter more than any single story. If several owners describe the same failure at similar mileage, put that system at the top of your pre-purchase inspection list. Back to the full 2020 BMW 3 Series Hybrid Sedan verdict →
