What 609 owners told NHTSA about the 2018 Nissan Rogue Select

Rear power lift gate on my 2018 Nissan Rogue will randomly close after being lifted. Happens at any time, whether the key fob, dash button or the button on the lift gate itself is used. The lift gate has hit my wife and I in the head multiple times causing minor injury. The car has been back to my Nissan dealer twice, they state the struts, sensors and modules are all working fine. They indicated they recalibrated the sensors. Not sure what the issue is but we don’t like the idea of paying the quoted price of $1200 to replace the struts since this may be a general problem with the car.

Driver may have hit chin on driver’s wheel causing bruising but no broken bones. Driver continues to have sore upper back as of April 2, 2024, but no broken bones. The first time I was just pulling out of my driveway and my car, made this grinding noise and forced to stop and the braking system light came on. The second time we were going 30 to 45 miles an hour and the same thing happened made that grinding noise came to a stop that time was definitely more harder because we’re going faster. I brought this to the attention of Nissan in Bayshore, and supposedly they checked a couple of things and said nope everything’s fine and like I said that was the first time and the second time they said the same exact thing that there could be some thing that triggered it. No I don’t think so. I think that there’s something wrong with the system because things like that just don’t happen both days that this happened to me it was a clear day one was daytime one was night time , so there was nothing near me. Nothing in the way. This could’ve been really serious if I was going faster. I think that they should be addressed because obviously they are not taking it. Seriously you see all of the complaints why is this not being looked into more the second time when we were going faster, and I told Nissan this it actually hurt me , my neck was killing me for a week. This should be taken very seriously because if somebody is driving faster and that happens or if somebody is a new driver and that happens and they can seriously hurt themselves or others because it comes out of nowhere n is very scary. FYI- I had to put in a fake date of when it happened to move forward on the form. I’m unsure of the two dates but my car was brought into The Nissan dealership in bayshore for the problem n there is documentation there with the dates.

The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that they could not assist because she had signed over the vehicle to a salvaged yard. I was in a auto accident. The drivers seat (side airbag) deployed as well as the curtain airbag. This accident hasn’t been shown to my dealership because the car is sitting in a junk yard. The side airbag that came out of my seat hit me so hard that it burned me through 3 layers of clothing and gave me a third degree burn about the size of a grapefruit. I have yet to have my insurance inspect this, but it just looks like a deployed airbag and it ripped open my seat. I was being burned. The burn on my clothes was hard around the edges like how polyester burns. It was unimaginable pain.

I was driving 50mph in a 50mph zone and the Forward Collision Avoidance system activated emergency braking, bringing vehicle to an immediate halt in a lane of traffic. Conditions were wet from earlier rainfall; however, no hazards or vehicles were immediately in front of me. This activation tugged on my seatbelt and chest and collarbone resulting in pain while the vehicle lunged me forward. Due to the immediate breaking of my vehicle, vehicles behind me were forced to quickly break or make a lane change. If the vehicles behind me were not responsive enough, I would’ve been struck by a vehicle going 40-50mph. The problem has not been reproduced or inspected; however, this has happened 3-4 other times with no attention to the matter.

Vehicle is three years old. Never used the spare previously. Had a nail in the tire, so called Nissan Care to come and change it. Nissan Care arrived, used the spare that came with the vehicle and changed the tire. Immediately upon driving it, my wife heard weird noises, including grinding under her feet and grinding near the front right of the vehicle. Some knowledgeable car experts at her work told her she needs to get it checked out. She drove on it for less than 15 minutes before hearing a loud pop from the back, at which point the vehicle started smoking. She drove it to a nearby dealer. The dealer indicated the spare tire was not the same size as the others and because the vehicle has an intelligent all wheel drive system, this caused the rear differential to explode. Had an accident to which passenger door area was the impact zone of a collision yet passenger front and side airbags did deploy yet only my front driver airbag deployed. My side airbag did not and I sustained injuries from being rammed against side whereas I wouldn’t have had it deployed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
