Everytime the truck is driven I hear an audible chime multiple times over the trip with corresponding ABS and Traction control lights that say the systems aren't functioning. Multiple times I have experienced full lock up of all wheels while on snowy or wet roads. The chimes and flashing lights always come and go while rarely staying illuminated for more than 5 minutes, however at times will flash upwards of 15 times in a minute. Cruise control is non operational while the lights are on. This problem has been occurring for several years and best I can recall started shortly after 20 thousand miles.

On 32600miles abs and traction control start glitching. Happened to me on the highway pulling a rv and using cruise control, all of the sudden I lost cruise control on 70 mph and ABS with traction lights came on and off several times and end up go away, I stopped in the safe area and check all related parts on the vehicle that related brakes and abs, fluid was up to level all parts, brakes, wiring was good where I was able to see. After I continued to drive, abs did same thing several times, end up abs and traction lights came on and stayed for a while and all of the sudden for no reason came off for several miles. Sims like bad connection or abs module failure.

Antilock brake and traction control stop working randomly. Alarms pop up on Dash board. Seems to happen more when it is humid out. With these safety devices not working the truck is not safe to drive and since the problem is random dealer can not find the cause.

I am the second owner of this vehicle. Shortly after purchase (mileage 26,401) the Hydraulic Control Unit (Control for Anti-lock braking system) failed. Dodge dealer installed OEM replacement in March 2022. The same component (Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU)) failed again July 2023. Dodge dealer scheduled service/replacement for August 3, 2023. Upon delivery of vehicle for service I am told Chrysler has blocked dealers from ordering any HCU nor are they to use any current inventory on hand. Chrysler has initiated an "engineering investigation" into these parts and is seeking another manufacturer to supply going forward. Chrysler estimates a part may become available by February 2024. Vehicle is used for towing and has no anti-lock braking system in the mean time. I believe this could pose a safety issue.

My ABS control module was replaced 2 years ago by David Stanley Dodge in midwest city oklahoma. It is failing again and i have discovered a lot 2017 & 2018 ram 2500/3500 trucks are having the same issue. Last time it cost $800 to fix. I now have to take it back in again to have it fixed again. This is unacceptable. Ram should be recalling this issue on these trucks.

The ABS system failed. It flashes on and off randomly. I pull a lot of trailers not having ABS is not safe for me or anyone around me. I Tried to get it fixed but the parts are more then a year out is what a dealership told me. The dealership was able to see the problem. I have 2 friends that have a 2018 and a 2017 Ram 3500, and both have the same problems.

ABS System, Traction Control and Cruise Control. Issues with ABS system taking out the cruise control and cause vehicle speed to decrease with out control increasing risk of a rear end collision. The manufacturer is very aware of the problem and the control unit is on back order for about 9 months. This is an intermittent problem that some times does not occur during the course of a day and sometimes it will flash 100 times a day.

ABS warning has been going on and off for 2 years This is the same problem that the current class action lawsuits make reference to. I have had this problem for a long time and parts to repair it have not been available. Recently my wife ran into a bullard in a wet parking lot that she felt was a result of the antilock brake system. I only use the truck when it is absolutely necessary due to this problem. It scares me to think that I might not be able to stop this heavy vehicle. I hope this gets resolved soon.

How to use these: a complaint is one owner’s report, filed voluntarily and published unverified. Patterns matter more than any single story. If several owners describe the same failure at similar mileage, put that system at the top of your pre-purchase inspection list. Back to the full 2017 Ram 3500 Cab Chassis verdict →
