One day as I was turning at a green light the car completely stopped on me. I had to turn it off and then restart it and it worked fine. About a week later I had to drive to my cousin's house 45 minutes away and the car would not go, it acted like it was stalling and It didn't want to go over 2000RPMs and it was really sluggish like it didn't want to shift into the next gear. I finally got on the highway and it would not go past 60 miles an hour and then also if you try to drive it, it will slow down like its shutting off on you. I've had a new battery replaced, 4 new tires a windshield, and wipers replaced. I took the car to AutoZone and also to another guy and both of them used their computers and said that it's the engine and they called it rod knocking. I called customer service and they said yes their is a recall and that they would replace the engine. I tried to call kia in mesquite Texas because that is the closest one to me and I left a voicemail they did not call me back I am carless I'm a single disabled mother I need a working car.

While driving on the interstate at highway speed with cruise control engaged, the engine suffered sudden catastrophic failure with absolutely no prior warning, warning lights, knocking, stalling, or other symptoms. The vehicle became inoperable immediately. The repair estimate is $6,500 for engine replacement. The vehicle is a 2017 Kia Sportage equipped with a Theta II 2.4L GDI engine, confirmed by service campaign SC340 on file with NHTSA. Two safety recalls remain incomplete on this vehicle: 21V137 and 22V703. The Knock Sensor Detection System software update campaign SC340 was never completed prior to my purchase of the vehicle in February 2024 from a used car dealer, despite being issued in July 2018. Kia Consumer Affairs indicated the claim would likely be denied due to the incomplete KSDS update, despite that update predating my ownership entirely. A dealer appointment had been scheduled for June 26, 2024 to address outstanding recalls prior to this failure occurring.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Engine is malfunctioning, increase in oil consumption, MPG dropping, a ticking/knocking noise coming from the engine, and erratic engine behavior with random surges while driving to 6000+ RPM. Brought it into Kia 2x now for same issue and first time said nothing was wrong and second time I am now going through an oil consumption test. Vehicle is still unsafe to drive but they say this is the only option to do their test to move forward with my warranty with Kia. I am driving through mountain passes daily with this behavior and I worry if the engine blows I'll lose control of the vehicle and fall off the cliff. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? I am instructed to drive it still. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? The engine oil consumption test is happening now, I have driven 500 miles and the engine oil is low, pending to hear back from Kia on when they can get it in for next steps. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No, just a Kia dealership (if that is the manufacturer then yes) Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No. And there is no warning lights for low engine oil. I have driven many times without oil and no warning that the oil was even low. The vehicle burns up oil fast.

I bought a 2017 Kia Sportage with a salvage title at auction on [XXX] for my wife, [XXX]. It had 57,463 miles on the engine. Before it reached the 60,000-mile warranty limit (only for non-salvage title vehicles), it showed error code P1326 and went into limp mode which makes the vehicle drive at a very slow speed to avoid damage to the engine. For an explanation of limp mode, go to the web address below: [XXX] Despite my wife's Kia Sportage NOT being under warranty, the vehicle's electronic system takes control and slows the vehicle making it unsafe for continued driving. Despite the KIA manufacturer no longer having a financial interest in a non-warranted vehicle, their electronics system prevents me from managing or using my vehicle. The dealerships will not do any repairs or bypass the control system and their only solution is an expensive engine replacement. 1. The Kia displays error code P1326 which is the subject of numerous complaints to dealers throughout the U.S. The problem is the KIA goes into limp mode with no remedy. Available for inspection. [XXX] While the lawsuit above refers to Ford products, the statement regarding loss of power significantly increasing the risk of a crash does pertain to my complaint against the KIA limp mode. 2. Risk - See link above 3.Archer Kia at 11614 SW Frwy. in Houston has confirmed and diagnosed the problem on 8-15-2024. 4. See #3 above. 5. The error code P1326 is the warning. Despite the KIA manufacturer no longer having a financial interest in a non-warranted vehicle, their electronics system prevents me from managing or using my vehicle. The dealerships will not do any repairs or bypass the control system and their only solution is an expensive engine replacement. The vehicle went into limp mode while driving on the interstate but the dealership is telling me there is nothing wrong with the vehicle. They are also telling me that there is no powertrain coverage on this vehicle since I am the second owner. With as many problems as Kia has had, I think it should be across the board for coverage on these so no one else suffers irreparable damage. I’ve had the car shut down on me many times but every single time I’ve taken it in for diagnostic testing I’ve been told there is nothing wrong with it. I call BS. If there was nothing wrong with it, it wouldn’t shut down on me while I’m driving it.

I have taken my 2017 kia sportage in the dealer several times due to loss of power and hesitation when trying to accelerate. They always say they cant find any issue. Also, my Kia is using or losing oil. I get oil changed every 5000 miles and the last two changes I had less then the low mark, barely showing on dip stick. I have had to add quarts of oil after only 2000 miles since oil change. Oil light does not come on, even when showing no oil on dip stick. It is very scary when I go to accelerate and nothing happens when trying to get on on rap for highway.

Check engine light came on after I exit the ramp getting onto I-75. The vehicle started to stall. The vehicle started making a jerking move as though it was loosing power. I had to pull over in the side of the highway. I turned off the vehicle for about 5 minutes and turned it back on. I pull back onto the highway and noticed that when I press the gas it started repeating the same as I stated before and it wouldn’t accelerate pass 65 mph. When you slow down to about 20 mph and press the gas it stalls really bad as though it’s about to cut off. The acceleration hands jumps back and forth between 1 and 2 when pulling off.

WHILE PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE, MY ENGINE ACCELERATED AS IF IT HAD A MIND OF IT'S OWN AND HIT A POST. I PUSHED HARD ON THE BRAKE WITH NO RESPONSE. THE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY EVEN WITH $5,500 DAMAGE TO THE FRONT END.

SOMETIMES WHEN WE ACCELERATE THE CAR STALLS & REVS UP, THEN IT WILL ACT FINE, BUT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WILL STAY ON FOR A BIT. THEN GOES OFF AND IT ACTS NORMAL. THIS IS ALL WHILE DRIVING. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING OVER A FEW MONTHS,,,IT'S JUST EVERY SO OFTEN.

SEVERAL TIMES WHILE DRIVING, NO MATTER IF I'M IN ECO MODE OR SPORTS MODE, MY RPMS SPIKE, AND MY ENGINE SOUNDS AS THOUGH I HIT THE ACCELERATOR VERY HARD. THIS TYPICALLY HAPPENS WHENEVER I'M STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT OR STOP SIGN AND AND LIGHTLY HIT THE ACCELERATOR TO BEGIN MOVING AGAIN. I TOOK MY CAR IN (BECAUSE I RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER FOR THIS VERY ISSUE) AND THE KIA SERVICE DEPARTMENT ESSENTIALLY SAID THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO, AND WHEN THEY TOOK MY CAR OUT TO RE-CREATE THE ISSUE, NOTHING HAPPENED. I'VE BEEN PROVIDED WITH A CASE NUMBER, BUT THEY TOLD ME THAT NO ACTION WAS TAKEN. MY RPMS CONTINUE TO OCCASIONALLY SPIKE, AND IT'S VERY CONCERNING THAT KIA IS UNABLE TO RESOLVE THIS PROBLEM.

FOR THE LAST 2-3 MONTHS MY CAR HAS BEEN RANDOMLY ACCELERATING ON ITS OWN, DUE TO THIS I WAS RECENTLY (AUG 14, 2018) IN AN AT FAULT ACCIDENT. I HAVE CALLED MY DEALERSHIP MULTIPLE TIMES INQUIRING IF THERE HAVE BEEN ANY RECALLS AND THERE HAVEN'T BEEN. I AM CURRENTLY IN THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT (AUG 18, 2018) HAVING THE PROBLEM LOOKED AT BUT HAVE BEEN TOLD THEY MIGHT NOT BE ABLE TO PIN POINT THE ISSUE.

WHEN STARTING TO ACCELERATE FROM THE VEHICLE WILL START TO MOVE AND THEN THE ENGINE RPMS WILL DROP TO IDLE. AT THAT TIME THE CAR WILL NOT RESPOND TO THE THROTTLE. IT SEEMS TO TAKE FROM THREE TO FIVE SECONDS BEFORE THE ENGINE WILL RESPOND TO THE ACCELERATOR BEING PUSHED. THIS SEEMS IT COULD HAPPEN IN ANY LOCATION USUALLY FROM A STOP POSITION. IT HAPPENED SEVERAL TIME BACKING UP MY DRIVEWAY BUT ALSO ON A CITY STREET WHEN I WAS STARTING TO MAKE A LEFT TURN. VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 KIA SPORTAGE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 75 MPH ATTEMPTING TO PASS ANOTHER VEHICLE, THE SPEED DROPPED TO APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH AND THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL DID NOT RESPOND WHEN DEPRESSED. THE CONTACT DROVE THE VEHICLE HOME AT A VERY SLOW SPEED. THE FAILURE HAD BEEN OCCURRING SINCE THE BEGINNING OF JANUARY AND THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR WAS CONSTANTLY ILLUMINATED. THE DEALER DID NOT HAVE THE REMEDY AVAILABLE TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 5,343.

I HAVE HAD 4 INSTANCES OF WHAT FEELS LIKE THE CAR SLIPPING OUT OF "DRIVE". WHILE IN DRIVE, WHEN I PRESS ON ACCELERATOR BUT WHILE THE RPM'S GO UP, THE CAR DOESN'T MOVE.. ONCE I REMOVE MY FOOT AND THEN PRESS AGAIN ON THE ACCELERATOR, IT PROCEEDS NORMALLY. KIA CANNOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH VEHICLE BUT LAST INSTANCE WAS LESS THAN 30 DAYS AGO. THIS IS AFTER KIA HAD TO REPLACE THE BLOCK THE FIRST MONTH OF OWNERSHIP OF THIS BRAND NEW VEHICLE.

How to use these: a complaint is one owner’s report, filed voluntarily and published unverified. Patterns matter more than any single story. If several owners describe the same failure at similar mileage, put that system at the top of your pre-purchase inspection list. Back to the full 2017 Kia Sportage verdict →
