The vehicle has repeatedly lost electrical power while driving. During one incident at approximately 50 mph, the vehicle’s electronics shut off and power steering assist stuttered/lost assist for several seconds, causing reduced vehicle control. During another incident while turning/in a turning lane, the engine and electronics shut off and the vehicle had to be restarted. Afterward, the vehicle struggled to restart and displayed a warning to drive cautiously due to power steering loss. The vehicle also has recurring hot-start/no-start symptoms and electrical loss after shutting the engine off. Based on my research, GM Bulletin 19-NA-052 appears to describe a related condition on 2016–2019 Chevrolet Camaro 6.2L vehicles where circuit 1 may short to ground at the starter heat shield, causing loss of electrical power or failure to start, with repair involving the starter solenoid cable. This appears to be a safety-related manufacturing/design defect because the vehicle can lose electrical power and steering assist while in motion. The vehicle/component is available for inspection upon request.

The power steering locks up and message appears saying power steering enabled please drive carefully. When this happens the steering wheel becomes very hard to turn, sometimes making it impossible to turn right or left if it is a sharp turn. I then have to shut car off and start it again and move steering wheel in order for it to steer properly again. Sometimes I have to repeat this process over and over again while driving from point A to B. Then at other times I have no issue. As of today(4/27/2026) this has been happening on a daily basis for the past 2 weeks. Before then, it was occasionally beginning in November 2025. A friend told me there was a recall but there are none listed for this car on the dealership site. When I googled recalls, it stated there were 3 critical recalls 1 being this power steering issue.

I would like to report a safety concern with my car having a strong shuddering or vibration, including the steering wheel which I’m unable to move. When this happens RPM remain below 3000 rpm as if the the gears were having trouble changing, the shaking remains while driving in the city at around 25-35 mph and highway speeds at around 65-76 mph. My car was under warranty when this started happening, the dealership flushed and replaced the transmission fluid and it took care of the problem for about 2000 miles (GM has several bulletins in regards to the “shake” on different model vehicles since 2014). When the shuddering returned, I returned to the freedom Chevrolet where I bought the vehicle (actual mileage 53768) and explained the shuddering returning. I was advised to leave the car which now has been at the dealership for months and they refuse to fix the problem stating it is out of warranty. I provided all the bulletins I found on related issue which GM has stated they fix the problem by swapping the transmission on new cars but nothing has been done on the cars that have the existing problem because “there is no recall” as the service advisor stated. This problem could’ve been resolved when I took the car the first time but I wasn’t aware of the severity of the problem or that I would have so much trouble with the dealership now. All I asked is to honor the warranty as the issue was brought up when the vehicle was still under warranty and has less than 60,000 miles.

While driving, the vehicle suddenly lost all electric power steering assist, making the steering extremely heavy and difficult to control. This occurred without warning and significantly increased the risk of a crash, especially at low speeds and during turns. The issue occurs intermittently and temporarily resolves after restarting the engine, which suggests an intermittent failure. The defect matches the description in GM’s active recall (GM Recall N252497020 / NHTSA Campaign 25V175000) for similar 2017 Chevrolet Camaro models, involving a faulty printed circuit board in the steering gear assembly. This failure has happened multiple times and creates an immediate safety hazard. I have not yet had the issue confirmed by a dealer because GM and the dealership are requiring me to pay a diagnostic fee, even though this is a known safety defect on similar vehicles. The steering system has not been inspected by the manufacturer at this time. A warning message stating “Service Power Steering” sometimes appears after the failure, but not every time. No other warning signs were present before the loss of assist. This problem has occurred during normal driving conditions on public roads.

Steering assist failure and is not included in the 2018 recall of other General Motors vehicles. The failure is as described in the cars under the recall. GM has no desire to cover this component failure. This is a serious safety issue as it still can be steered but with great effort and could result in a serious wreck. The car has 12,000 miles and garage kept. There are no check engine lights. The battery is good with a full charge. The engine temp is good. The car is currently at the GM dealership and I am being told that it will be my responsibility to pay for it.

I was driving and my steering all of a sudden got hard to do, my steering wheel was shaking, the steering was difficult to steer and it said on my dash, "electronic steering assist" I was going 60 mph and had to get my car off the road, as I slowed the car got harder to steer, I almost hit another car and ditched it. This is not the first time it's happened on my Camaro, it's happened at least a dozen times in the last 18 months. This is dangerous and I need this corrected! I don't trust it and I am going to hurt myself or someone if you don't fix this. There was a recall before but it did not correct this problem!

Electronic steering assist. I was going down to road and all of a sudden my car was hard to steer and my steering wheel was shaking very hard. I carefully pulled it off the road before I lost control put it in park and shut it off. My steering wheel continued to shake and vibrate and it was also loud like the electronic part didn't shut off with the car. It continued to do this for about 10 minutes with the car off. I started it again and it seemed to be normal. I called the dealer they confirmed the electronic steering assist was an issue and it was recalled for this and the repairs were no good. They said it mlnever do it again but it also might but there was no fix! Well my car's electronic steering assist has done this several times almost causing me to hit another car, ditch, mailbox and pedestrians. It's not safe, it happened again yesterday as a matter of fact, for over a year and I don't trust it! I'm afraid when I'm driving it. I put in a safety complaint more than once, I need this repaired correctly this time before I injured myself or someone else! Thank you, I'll be looking forward to hearing from you! Please help me, I love my Camaro!

When driving down the street, I got a warning light and my Power Steering went out. This is a car with 18,000 miles on it and it should'nt have failed so quickly. When I researched the issue, GM has recall #N182182760 that states this is a known issue for the Camaro but for some reason my VIN is not included. This is a $3,000 repair I am being asked to pay for a known issue, can someone help? It is the Power Steering Module

While driving I experienced the wheel becoming more stiff unexpectedly while turning even slightly it would randomly get harder to turn. A power steering warning came on saying to be careful and right after the car started shaking really bad. Stop the car checked tires tie rods sway bar other steering components and nothing seemed abnormal. Was able to drive the rest of the way home but still had the random stiffness at the steering wheel.

When I was driving my steering wheel started shaking I could hear a noise and it was harder to steer. On my dash it showed Drive careful Steering Power Steering assistance system I pulled the car over and turned it off but I could hear the electrical system in the power steering did not shut down and my steering wheel was still shaking. About 45 seconds later it shut down. I went out to my car the following day and started it and the power steering was fine, there was no more shaking or noise in the electrical part of my steering assistance. It was fine. But it doesn't seem safe to me at all. The recall on it was fixed but it seems there is still an issue with this and it could cause someone to get into an accident and hurt or kill someone.
