A red light came on in my vehicle that read restraint system. Does that mean the airbags are faulty or is it with the seatbelts.

Water possibly from moonroof getting into the car and warning messages about passenger airbags. I discussed matter with dealer and they want me to pay for diagnostic. I think they reset computer after service.

Restraint System Notification message: Fault in Airbag, belt tensioner or belt force limiter. Service center advised air bag might not deploy if not fixed. This could result in death or injury during a car accident. They provided an estimate with the description of cabling correction and the service advisor also told it has to do with a resistor and low voltage in the unit. This notification message first appeared when the car was under the warranty and they fixed it but then it happens again, showing that this is a recurring problem of this unit.

VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN FOR SERVICE 5 TIMES WITH ELECTRICAL ISSUES IN THE PAST YEAR. FIRST, THE AIRBAG AND SAFETY RESTRAINT SYSTEM FAILURE OCCURRED ON 3 DIFFERENT OCCASIONS AND I WAS TOLD IT WAS DUE TO AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE. NOW, FOR THE SECOND TIME A DRIVETRAIN MALFUNCTION HAS OCCURRED THAT I HAVE BEEN TOLD IS ALSO DUE TO AN ELECTRICAL SOFTWARE ISSUE. THE VEHICLE SHUT OFFS WHILE IN OPERATION (IN MOTION GOING 70 MPH), PUTS ITSELF INTO NEUTRAL AND THE ENGINE SHUTS DOWN NO MATTER THE SPEED. I FEEL UNSAFE DRIVING THE VEHICLE BECAUSE IT SHUTOFF ON ME WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE PUTTING ME AT RISK OF CAUSING HARM TO MYSELF AND OTHERS.

OUR 2017 BMW X5 WAS INVOLVED IN A FATAL CAR ACCIDENT AND THE DRIVER'S SIDE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY CAUSING A HEAD INJURY. A DRIVER WAS DRIVING SOUTHBOUND LOST CONTROL ON ICE AND WENT INTO THE NORTHBOUND LANE WHERE ANOTHER VEHICLE STRUCK THE OUT OF CONTROL CAR CAUSING THOSE VEHICLES TO HIT OUR BMW AND PUSHING OUR VEHICLE OFF THE ROAD. *TR

How to use these: a complaint is one owner’s report, filed voluntarily and published unverified. Patterns matter more than any single story. If several owners describe the same failure at similar mileage, put that system at the top of your pre-purchase inspection list. Back to the full 2017 BMW X5 Phev verdict →
