I was backing up a residential driveway. My backup camera showed my wheels were in line. My steering wheel turned and my car had a sudden unintended acceleration. My car destroyed a double steel garage door. Pushed a parked vehicle forward approximately 10-12”. The vehicle crushed a riding lawn mower, pushing the mower through a sheet rock wall. If anyone had been in this area of the garage, they could have possibly suffered serious injury or even fatality. I am trying to arrange to have my vehicle taken to local Kia dealership for diagnostic testing. At this time, the vehicle has not been inspected. There were no warning signs that appeared and I did not hear my backup camera alert.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2016 KIA SORENTO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY, WHEN SHE CRASHED INTO A STONE LINING UP THE PATHWAY. THE CONTACT PLACED THE VEHICLE INTO REVERSE WHEN THE VEHICLE SURGED IN REVERSE CRASHING INTO THE CONTACT'S GARAGE. NO AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. THE CONTACT RECEIVED AN INJURY TO THEIR SHOULDER AND MEDICAL ATTENTION WAS NEEDED. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED AND DEEMED TOTALED. THE CONTACT CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP (FRIENDLY KIA 5819 US-19, NEW PORT RICHEY, FL 34652; (877) 544-6719) WHO DID NOT DIAGNOSE A FAILURE, HOWEVER, THEY ATTEMPTED TO FILE A CLASS ACTION FORM. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 47,000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 KIA SORENTO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AND DEPRESSING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO INCREASE IN SPEED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN UNKNOWN FACILITY WHERE IT WAS REPAIRED BUT THE PARTS REPLACED WERE UNKNOWN. THE FOLLOWING WEEK WHILE DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED VIOLENTLY. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO A CEMENT BARRIER. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE CONTACT DID NOT SUSTAINED INJURIES. THE FRONT PASSENGER SUSTAINED CHEST, BACK, ARM INJURIES AND A BRUISE TO THE LEFT BREAST BUT MEDICAL ATTENTION WAS NOT PROVIDED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TO HIS REPAIR FACILITY WITH CAUTION. A DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V089000 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,244.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2016 KIA SORENTO. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A KNOCKING NOISE UNDER THE HOOD OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT COASTED THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD; HOWEVER, NO FAILURE WAS NOTICED AND THE CONTACT RESUMED DRIVING. APPROXIMATELY ONE MILE DOWN THE ROAD, THE CONTACT STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE. THE CONTACT WAITED A FEW SECONDS AND DEPRESSED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AGAIN. THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED AND AN EXPLOSION SOUND WAS HEARD UNDER THE HOOD. THE CONTACT COASTED THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND WAS ALERTED BY ANOTHER DRIVER THAT THE VEHICLE WAS ON FIRE. THE VEHICLE STARTED TO OMIT BLACK SMOKE THROUGH THE VENTS. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO EXIT THE VEHICLE WITHOUT INJURIES. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A TOW LOT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER OR AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND DID NOT OFFER FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 163,000.

THE LAST TIME THE FAILURE OCCURRED, THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO THE GARAGE AND CAUSED EXTENSIVE DAMAGE. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED MINOR BRUISING THAT DID NOT REQUIRE MEDICAL ATTENTION.
