What 453 owners told NHTSA about the 2016 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rhd

ABS and traction control lights came on. Took to dealership in July and told the ABS control unit was faulty. Dealership ordered part with expected delivery on 8/12/2024. Went to dealership and was told part was in redesign with no real date for availability. Now I have a vehicle without ABS, traction control, four wheel drive, or cruise control with no date for a fix. The ABS and traction control are safety systems that are unavailable.

On July 19, 2024, my ABS and TRAC Control light (Anti-Lock Brake Light) came on. I took my vehicle in to the Myrtle Beach Jeep Dealership in South Carolina and after a complete checkI was informed that C2200-ANS Module Internal will require replacement and the part was currently being re-engineered and was on backorder for at least thirty days. When even tried calling other dealerships and was told that they are having the same problem. On August 27, 2024 I called and spoke with my Jeep service advisor (Jennie Jo, 843-448-1191) and was told that the ABS module is still be re-engineered and will not be available for another thirty days or longer. I saw on-line that numerous Jeep owners are having this serious problem with no relief. There has been no-recall and we cannot drive our vehicle do to the safety risk. I do not know why Jeep is not providing some relief or alternative to customer. I have never experience this type of situation. The dealerships are waiting on Jeep to provide the part and the part is not cheap, over $800 dollars to replace. Jeep needs to inform customer that this is a major safety issue and conduct a mass recall of these other Jeeps. We need help.

Service Manager advised the module was unavailable for several months with MOPAR indicating the "part was on hold until engineering review was complete" and had been that way for several months with numerous extensions and no definitive available date and they were unable to order one for my vehicle with 28 already on order. Living in South Florida where it rains almost daily, driving without operable ABS and Traction Assist for several months now with no idea when parts available is very hazardous. "Jeep Death Wobble" - I was informed by my mechanic that the Automatic Braking System module will need to be replaced. This was after numerous attempts to fix what is being referred to online as the Jeep Death Wobble online - widespread complaints online and on Jeep forums. Previous attempts to resolve this issue included alignment, new pads, brake pads, new brake rotors, 4 new tires. Despite all of this expense ($2k +) the jeep continued to wobble erratically and unsafely at around 44 MPH because the brakes are engaging or partially engaging. The temperature of the brakes and rims exceeded the range of the brake temperature sensor my mechanic used so he cautioned the car could vehicle could catch on fire if driven more than a short distance. The ABS module is on back order for months so I am out of luck to fix the vehicle. Jeep claims this is only a supply chain issue but based on what I see as widespread problems, it seems to also be a demand issue - this is happening to many other drivers and should be a safety concern for instability (hence the name Death Wobble) if not also for fires.

My first issue is my windshield wiper fluid only works or comes out once every couple days. My 2nd issue is my TPM system has been blinking and does not show the pressure on very hot days. Both issues have been going on for over a year. 3rd issue is I can no longer use the AM/FM radio. 4th issue is my brakes went out due to a faulty rear passenger side brake hose in March. Over the past 2 weeks something has been wrong with using my brakes. Today I just found out both front brake hoses are defective. Due to these defective hoses, my rotors also need to be replaced. My automotive mechanic said this is very common. My car only has 54k miles on it. I feel like these issues should not be happening on a car that only has 54K miles on it. I feel like many children are in danger because of these hoses being defective. What if a parent has this happen and they are unable to stop on the interstate or anywhere really. I almost wrecked when my brakes went out in March, but luckily I was able to stop before hitting anything. The car behind me almost hit me as well. Can you please investigate these issues as soon as possible before anyone gets seriously hurt. Thank you.

The ABS warning lights come on and go off intermittently. Occasionally when I brake I can feel the brake pedal shudder. This problem has occurred at various speeds from 5mph to freeway driving at 65mph. This problem has been happening for several years but only occasionally. I would estimate it started at about 30,000 miles only occasionally and started more frequently about 50,000 miles. We love our Jeep and are diligent about maintenance. Now it is almost constant. I have taken it to a trusted independent mechanic who could not detect the problem over the past 2 years because it didn’t happen while in the shop. We have had a brake job done and that has not corrected the problem. We took it to get hoses replaced yesterday and got a call from our mechanic stating that the ABS warning system went on for them and they were able to detect a faulty sensor and will replace it. This most recent incident happened when moving vehicle to lift for repairs of heater hoses. The date is 5/24/2024. We have experienced similar and exact problems as other owners complained except have not taken our vehicle to the dealer. Seems it’s about time something be done by Jeep.

*The ABS alert is on and it is disabling the antilock breaking system. The dealership has inspected the vehicle. *The safety at hand is that my antilock breaking system is not working. I was told that there is a chance if I had to break suddenly, the vehicle ABS will not work and the breaks will lock up, causing me to skid. They cautioned me to pump the breaks in the event I need to suddenly stop. *The Dealer has confirmed that this module is broken. They have inspected the vehicle and they were the ones who provided me with this information. *I was told the ABS module is inoperable at this time and the part has been on back order since I reported it in December 2023. *The alert/notification warning lights go on each time the vehicle is started and stays on the entire time the vehicle is on. The lights first appeared in early October (intermittently). We took the vehicle to Jeep and they could not duplicate the lights coming on or the problem and sent us away. *The warning lights continued to come on intermittently and we took the Jeep back to Jeep/Chrysler in December and we were then told the ABS module was broken. They placed an order for the part at that time. *I have called the dealership multiple times to see when the part would arrive and the dealership informed me that the ABS module for my vehicle is back ordered due an engineering review in progress for that part. Each month I am told the same information. I called Chrysler customer service and have been assigned a Case Manager. Today, the Case Manager gave me the same information and told me that the issue is under review and I will receive an update every 5 days.

The ABS Traction Control Module in this year, and surrounding year, Jeep Wranglers continues to fail. Now Jeep has stated that the part is under engineering review and not available till June timeframe. Therefore, these vehicles no longer have anti lock brakes or traction control safety features. Had right front brakes, caliper and rotor replaced two times in the past 6 months. Same problem. At times, brakes feel like they are stuck and will not release. Standard transmission and there is no roll back on inclined driveway. Drove it 5 miles home when it started messing up. The brake light and ABS light came on. Got home and the brakes were smoking. Didn't drive it for three days and the same thing started to happen. Having to do a hard break is dangerous-the brakes will not catch and it jerks to the left. Drove it back home. Went maybe 15 miles and this time when I stepped on the brakes, it went all the way to the floor. The brake pads are missing, Caliper is stuck. Rotors are half of being brand new. All three items-pads, caliper, and rotor were replaced 1 month ago. I have the receipts. This is the second time the brake pads fell out at $350 a pop. Mileage is approximately 55,500 for a 2016 Jeep Sahara.

My 2016 Jeep Wrangler that has 48K miles was running and in park. After about 20 minutes of being in the park position my ABS and Traction Control Light came on. I took my Jeep to my local Autozone to have the code read and it came back with C1032 and C102B. I had the sensor replaced and ensured that the connections were clean of any debris. Once sensor was changed it took about 20 minutes to clear the ABS and Traction Control light from the dash. I drove my Jeep later that night and all seemed fine until I attempted to stop at a speed of 5-10mph. At that time the ABS kicked in on my vehicle but no warning lights illuminated. I once again checked the newly changed sensor along with the wiring to ensure there was no breaks in the connections and I found none. Not sure why my ABS engages at at such a low speed after a new sensor was installed.

My wife was involved in an injury accident 12/02/2023 due to failure of the ABS Module not activating and the Air bag system not deploying. She was cut off by a hit and run driver. She slammed on the brakes went into an uncontrollable skid lost control on the Highway went off the road tumbled end over end 4 times no air bag deployment. No ABS or Air bag warning lights were on both systems failed.

This Jeep is a right hand drive wrangler. Airbag light, traction control light came on, and my horn quit working. Cruise control quit working, and then my antilock brake system was malfunctioning. I couldn't figure out why. So I went to both the Jeep dealership, and the local autozone where they scanned my Jeep for codes, and it's saying a bad clockspring. They said there is a known recall for 2016 models, but mine isn't included. They said to figure out why this Jeep is not included. . Why is my Jeep not included in the already known recall for the bad clock springs?

After replacement, a few weeks later, the back left did the same this time causing the vehicle to pull, drive hard and smoke to be emitted from the wheel. This in regard to my 2016 Jeep Wrangler. For the second time in less than 37,000 miles I have had a wheel speed sensor go out. (The first time, as I reported on an earlier NTSB complaint form, was the left front speed sensor.) This time it was the right rear speed sensor. I was driving in traffic when the ABS and Traction Control lights came on, along with my Jeep Wrangler braking on it's own. The lights would clear, only for it to have it happen again a few miles down the road. I took it in to a repair shop and their computer scan reported the right rear wheel speed sensor failed. I had the right rear speed sensor replaced which cured that problem. I have had wheel speed sensors fail twice in less than 37,000 when I have never experienced it even once in any other vehicle. Having your vehicle brake unexpectedly on it's own in Florida traffic is scary!

2016 Jeep JKU 78,000 miles NOT driveable because front end wobbles and steering wheel vibrates. Increasing to 60 MPH stops the wobble. This happened to me twice and someone else driving my vehicle. Had new tires installed and front end aligned - thought it was fixed but then the problem became worse. I just got back home after a 20 mile drive and the shaking and wobbling was horrific. I did not feel safe in this vehicle. Upon returning home the right front wheel began smoking so I grabbed a fire extinguisher just in case. The right front wheel was extremely hot to the touch. After cooling off and no fire, I conducted a visual inspection of the right front brake caliper and noticed it had circular markings on caliper in 3 different areas. I am not going to drive this vehicle again until the dealership can fix it.

I am reporting a dangerous brake part on all of the later model wranglers. The front brake lines collapse because of a clamp holding the brake line. This happened to our 2016 Jeep Wrangler willys edition it is garaged and only has 25,342 miles. The dealer wanted 2700 to redo all of the front brakes. This is a cross section of both hoses below. I bought the replacement lines and they have the exact same defect. Poor engineering here. The metal should not clamp the hose but be rolled around it so the hose has some clearance. I do not know who to report this to but I paid the dealer $180 to lie to me about it needing calipers rotors and hoses. Took it home and I diagnosed the issue. Spent around $200 for new hoses and my labor to change them out and bleed the system. I have temporarily put on the oem lines but am looking for some better aftermarket alternatives as the replacement is crimped and will fail soon. The left front caliper seized up locally. Right one was bad also. So glad it seized near our neighborhood.

I PROCEEDED TO ENTER THE ROADWAY INITIALLY ABOUT 10MPH AND ALL OF A SUDDEN, THE JEEP ACCELERATED TO ALMOST 80 MPH AND I SMASHED THE BRAKED AND IT WOULD NOT STOP AT ALL. THE RPM'S WERE STEADY GOING UP. I PULLED UP THE EMERGENCY BRAKE RIGHT BEFORE I ALMOST REAR ENDED THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME AT THE LIGHT GETTING READY 6O GO THROUGH THE INTERSECTION. I WAS ON THE BRAKE AT THE SAME TIME. ONCE THE CAR FINALLY CAME TO A STOP, THE ENGINE WAS STILL REVED UP. I PUT IN PARK AND TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF WITH THE IGNITION. I THEN RESTARTED AND WAS SCARED THE REST OF THE WAY HOME. THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION WHEN THIS HAPPENED. THERE WAS NOTHING UNDER THE BRAKE. MY FLOOR MATS WERE FLUSH AND FLAT AND THE ACCELERATION WAS SO SCARY. I FEARED FOR MY LIFE. I HAVE NOT DRIVEN IT SINCE. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME TO BRING IT IN THE NEXT MORNING, FRIDAY THE 14TH AT 10 AM BUT THAT THEU WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO LOOK AT IT UNTIL 7-10 DAYS. I DID NOT BRING IT AS THIS WAS UNACCEPTABLE. I WILL CALL BACK AND SPEAK WITH SOMEONE ELSE FOR RESULTS. THE TECH EVEN TOLD ME THAT THIS HAPPENED TO HIS BROTHER THAT ALSO HAVE A JEEP. THERE ISN'T A RECALL FOR THIS THAT I'VE FOUND. SOMEONE WILL LOSE THEIR LIFE BECAUSE OF THIS MALFUNCTION. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD.

ROTORS SEVERELY SCORED, COULDN'T BE MACHINED. BOTH FRONT CALIPERS, ROTORS, HOSES, PADS, LINES, FLUIDS ALL REQUIRED REPLACEMENT ACCORDING TO KOONS TYSONS JEEP IN VIENNA, VA. IN A 2 SECOND GOGGLE SEARCH OF JEEP OWNER'S FORUM BRAKE COMPLAINTS, THERE ARE OVER 300 SIMILAR BRAKE CALIPER AND LOCKING UP COMPLAINTS FOR 3RD GENERATION WRANGLER VEHICLES BETWEEN 2007 AND 2017. THE DEALERSHIP SHARED WITH US THAT THE NEW PARTS THEY USED FOR OUR FRONT BRAKE REPAIR ARE THE RE-ENGINEERED OEM PARTS DESIGNED BY JEEP AND THAT THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE WITH THE ORIGINAL FRONT BRAKE PARTS THAT SHIPPED ON THESE VEHICLES FROM THE FACTORY (YET THERE IS NO RECALL TO DATE -- IF JEEP RE-DESIGNED THE ORIGINAL PARTS, THEY CLEARLY KNOW THERE IS A SAFETY ISSUE HERE, PLUS THEY SUPPLY THE JEEP OWNER'S FORUM??). WE WERE GIVEN AN INVOICE OF $1,500+ FOR THE FRONT BRAKE REPAIRS. WE CONTACTED JEEP CUSTOMER SERVICE WHO DENIED KNOWLEDGE OF THIS FRONT BRAKE SAFETY ISSUE. THEY ASKED THE DEALERSHIP TO WORK WITH US TO DISCOUNT THE PRICE AS WARRANTY EXPIRED AT 36,000 MILES, BUT JEEP DID NOT DO ANYTHING FOR US DIRECTLY. JEEP DID ACKNOWLEDGE ON THE PHONE THAT THEY MAY NEED THEIR RECALL DIVISION TO LOOK INTO THIS SAFETY ISSUE. WE ALSO HAPPENED TO DISCUSS THIS ISSUE WITH OUR SON, WHO THEN TOLD US HE HAD THE SAME BRAKE ISSUES WITH HIS 2016 JEEP WRANGLER UNLIMITED WHICH HAD TO HAVE 3 BRAKE REPAIRS FOR THIS ISSUE BEFORE HE GOT RID OF IT BECAUSE HE WAS AFRAID TO DRIVE IT.
