INTERMITTENT FAILURE OF REVERSE GEAR TO ENGAGE. ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS THE REVERSE GEAR FAILS TO ENGAGE AFTER MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS TO SHIFT INTO AND OUT OF GEAR. THIS APPEARS TO BE AN ELECTRONIC CONTROL ISSUE WITH THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTING CONTROL AS IT EVENTUALLY RESOLVES ITSELF AFTER NUMEROUS ATTEMPTS. THE PROBLEM IS BOTH INCONVENIENCE AND SAFETY AS BACKING UP IS OFTEN NECESSARY TO EXECUTE A NORMAL TURN AROUND. AN ACCIDENT RESULTING IN TWO INSURANCE CLAIMS RESULTED FROM THIS DEFECT; I WAS ATTEMPTING TO BACKUP IN MY HOME DRIVEWAY AND THERE WAS DELAY IN THE REVERSE GEAR ENGAGEMENT; NOT FULLY COMPREHENDING WHAT WAS GOING ON, I PRESSED ON THE GAS TO PROCEED WHILE REVERSE WAS NOT ENGAGING. THEN THE TRUCK SUDDENLY ENGAGED IN REVERSE AND I LURCHED BACKWARD HITTING ANOTHER VEHICLE BEFORE I COULD APPLY THE BRAKE. TOTAL DAMAGES FOR BOTH VEHICLES EXCEEDED $15,000.

WAS PARKING MY TRAILER AND HAD UNHOOKED IT GO IN TO MOVE IT FORWARD SO I COULD PUT MY TRAILER LOCK ON LEFT THE DOOR OPEN LIKE I HAVE DONE COUNTLESS TIMES PUT THE TRUCK IN PARK AND GOT OUT STARTED TO WALK BACK WHEN THE ENGINE ACCELERATED AND THE TRUCK STARTED TO MOVE BACKWARDS TURNED TO JUMP IN TO HIT THE BREAK WHEN THE DOOR KNOCKED ME DOWN THE FRONT TIRE HIT MY KNEE AND LEG AND THE DOOR CAUGHT A POST RIPPING IT FORWARD

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 FORD F-150. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED AND UNOCCUPIED WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED INDEPENDENTLY WITHOUT WARNING. WHILE THE GEAR SHIFTER WAS STILL IN THE PARK POSITION, THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO THE CONTACT'S BOAT. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE GEAR SHIFTER FAILED TO MOVE OUT OF PARK. THE CONTACT POWERED OFF THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED AND IT OPERATED NORMALLY. THERE WAS NO WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER OR AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 18,000.

TRUCK WAS IN PARK WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING. NOBODY WAS IN THE TRUCK WHICH WAS ON A SLIGHT INCLINE. IT WAS STANDING STILL IN THE BACK YARD WHILE I WAS TRYING TO GET THE GARAGE DOOR CLOSED. IT TOOK OFF GOING THROUGH A CHAINLINK FENCE, ACROSS A NEIGHBORS YARD, AND CAME TO REST ON A BANK ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE NEIGHBORS YARD. THE FENCE AND BRUSH CAUSED SEVERAL HEAVY SCRATCHES TO THE TRUCK.
