TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 FORD F-150. WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL TRAVELED TO THE FLOORBOARD WHEN IT WAS DEPRESSED. THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WAS USED TO SLOW THE VEHICLE DOWN AND THE LOW BRAKE FLUID INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO SUMMERVILLE FORD (843-873-3550, LOCATED AT 9700 DORCHESTER RD, SUMMERVILLE, SC 29485) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE MASTER CYLINDER AND BRAKE BOOSTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CALLED, BUT THE CONTACT DID NOT SPEAK WITH ANYONE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 31,000. THE VIN WAS NOT PROVIDED.

WHILE DRIVING IN MANSFIELD, TX ON 10/27/ 2019 ( ON FRONTAGE RD. NEAR DEBBIE LN) AS I WAS PREPARING TO STOP AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT. I PRESSED THE BRAKES AND THE PETAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. THE TRUCK GRADUALLY CAME TO A STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION! FORTUNATELY, THERE WASN'T A LOT OF TRAFFIC AND I WAS ABLE TO BACK UP OUT OF THE WAY OF ON COMING TRAFFIC. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS, CHIMES OR ALERTS TO SIGNIFY A PROBLEM. IT WAS A FRIGHTENING EXPERIENCE!! I MADE IT BACK HOME SAFELY, BUT NERVOUSLY! NOW I'M VERY APPREHENSIVE ABOUT DRIVING THE TRUCK!

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 FORD F-150. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE BRAKE WARNING MESSAGE SUDDENLY DISPLAYED AND THE VEHICLE FAILED TO STOP WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL TRAVELED TO THE FLOORBOARD WHEN DEPRESSED. THE EMERGENCY BRAKE HAD TO BE APPLIED TO STOP THE VEHICLE. IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT BRAKE FLUID WAS PRESENT AND HAD BEEN SUCKED INTO THE BRAKE BOOSTER. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. JOE COOPER FORD (4921 N. I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY, WHEN THE LOW BRAKE FLUID LIGHT CAME ON. I PULLED OVER TO THE NEXT EXIT AND WENT TO A GAS STATION AND ADDED TWO BOTTLES OF BRAKE FLUID TO GET THE LEVEL ABOVE THE MINIMUM LINE. THE PEDAL PRESSURE WAS DECREASING WITH EACH USE AND I DROVE THE REST OF THE WAY TO WORK, ABOUT A 1/2 MILE. AFTER LETTING THE CAR SIT FOR 3 HOURS THE FLUID WAS GONE AND THERE WAS NO VISIBLE SIGHT OF FLUID ON THE GROUND. I ADDED MORE FLUID AND DID NOT DRIVE THE TRUCK, BUT 3 HOURS LATER THE FLUID WAS GONE AGAIN. I TOOK THE TRUCK TO THE DEALER, 1/2 MILE AWAY AND THE BRAKES WERE GONE AT THIS POINT. THE MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THAT THE FLUID WAS LEAKING FROM THE MASTER CYLINDER TO THE BRAKE BOOSTER ACCORDING TO THE SERVICE REPORT. THE MASTER AND BOOSTER WERE REPLACED AND THE TRUCK FUNCTIONS PROPERLY AGAIN. I KNOW THIS WAS AN ISSUE ON THE 2013-2014 F150S AND THERE WAS A RECALL, BUT THIS HAPPENED IN A 2016 F-150 WITH 37,000 MILES WHERE A FAILURE LIKE THIS SHOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED. I AM REPORTING THIS SINCE THERE COULD BE A SIMILAR FAILURE HAPPENING ON THE 2015+ F150S AS THE PREVIOUS GENERATION.

I WENT TO .CARPROBLEMZOO.COM/FORD/F-150/2016/BRAKE AND FOUND 65 PEOPLE WITH THE SAME ISSUE. ARE WE WAITING FOR SOMEONE TO GET KILLED. I HAVE NOT RECEIVED A RECALL IS THERE ONE? ON 7 SEPTEMBER 2019 WE RETURNED FROM A FAMILY TRIP OF 9 DAYS. DURING THIS TIME THE F-150 WAS SITTING IN THE GARAGE THE WHOLE TIME. WHEN WE RETURNED I WENT TO BACK THE TRUCK OUT OF THE GARAGE AND WHEN I DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL I HAD NO BRAKES. SHORTLY NOTICING THAT THERE WERE NO BRAKES THE LOW BRAKE FLUID INDICATOR CAME ON. I CHECKED THE RESERVOIR AND INDEED THE LEVEL WAS REALLY LOW, WHEN IT WAS FULL BEFORE WE LEFT ON THE TRIP. THERE WERE NO POOLS OR PUDDLES OF FLUID ANYWHERE. ON 10 SEPT, I REFILLED THE RESERVOIR WITH BRAKE FLUID. WHILE REMAINING IN THE DRIVEWAY, I PUMPED THE BRAKES. THE BREAK PEDAL CONSISTENTLY WENT TO THE FLOOR WITH NO BREAKING POWER. AFTER SEVERAL PUMPS OF THE BREAKS THE LOW FLUID LEVEL INDICATOR CAME BACK ON. I CHECKED TO SEE THE LEVEL AND INDEED AGAIN IT WAS BELOW THE MINIMUM MARKER. AND AGAIN THERE IS NO INDICATION OF LEAKING ANYWHERE. THERE ARE NO POOLS OF FLUID ANYWHERE IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT NOR UNDER THE VEHICLE. I PLAN TO TAKE THE TRUCK TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIRS. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT DUE TO THIS PROBLEM. SOME MOTION WAS USED TO VERIFY IF THE BREAKS WERE WORKING. ALL OF THIS OCCURRED IN THE GARAGE OR ON THE DRIVEWAY OF THE HOUSE.

ALL THE FLUID WENT INTO THE BOOSTER AND INTO THE ENGINE. THE FORD DEALER WILL HAVE ALL THE INFORMATION AND ARE REPAIRING IT NOW. I COULD ADD IT LATER IF NEEDED.

OPENED HOOD AND OBSERVED BRAKE FLUID IN RESERVOIR BELOW MIN. ADDED BRAKE FLUID TO BETWEEN MIN AND MAX. RESTARTED VEHICLE AND PRESSED BRAKE PEDAL AGAIN TO FLOOR. OBSERVED FLUID LEVEL LOWER WITHIN RESERVOIR, BUT NO FLUID OBSERVED COMING FROM VEHICLE. CONTINUED TO ADD FLUID, PUMP PEDAL AND OBSERVE FLUID DRAINING, BUT NO FLUID LEAK FOUND. TOTAL FLUID ADDED - 36 OZ. VEHICLE TOWED TO DEALER. SERVICE DEPARTMENT CONCURRED WITH SELF-ASSESSMENT THAT MASTER CYLINDER HAD FAILED AND DRAINING FLUID WAS COLLECTING IN BRAKE BOOSTER HOUSING. SERVICE DEPARTMENT QUOTING $1000 TO REPAIR. VEHICLE 37 MONTHS OLD, 47000 MILES - JUST OUT OF WARRANTY. HAD VEHICLE HAD BEEN IN MOTION I FEEL CONFIDENT COLLISION WOULD HAVE OCCURRED / INJURIES LIKELY. MY GRAVEST CONCERN IS THAT FAILURE OF MAJOR SAFETY SYSTEM DID NOT HAVE ANY PRECURSOR NOR EXTERNAL SYMPTOMS. HARD FOR LOW AGE/LOW MILEAGE VEHICLE TO HOLD VALUE WITH THIS ISSUE.

WHILE HEADING TO THE DENTIST YESTERDAY I WAS DRIVING AND THE LOW BRAKE FLUID LIGHT CAME ON, THOUGHT MAYBE A SENSOR FAULT AND KEPT DRIVING, NEXT THE BRAKE LIGHT INDICATOR IN THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER CAME ON. SO I PULLED OVER AND THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. I BARELY STOPPED IN TIME BECAUSE THERE WAS A STOP SIGN. I POPPED THE HOOD AND THERE WAS NO FLUID IN THE MASTER CYLINDER. I LOCKED THE TRUCK UP AND WALKED 3 BLOCKS TO A ACE HARDWARE TO GET SOME MORE FLUID. I GOT BACK TO THE TRUCK AND CHECKED FOR LEAKS BUT DIDN'T FIND ANY. SO I FILLED UP THE FLUID AND PUMPED THE BRAKES, I HAD ENOUGH TO GET ME HOME SAFELY. WHEN I GOT HOME I CHECKED AGAIN AND FOUND THE FLUID TO BE ALL GONE AGAIN. THAT WAS WITHING A 5 MILE DISTANCE TO WHERE I FILLED IT UP LAST. I CHECKED FOR LEAKS ONCE AGAIN AND DIDN'T FIND ANY. SO I PULLED THE VACUUM SENSOR OFF THE BOTTOM OF THE BRAKE BOOSTER AND ALL OF THE BRAKE FLUID POURED OUT. THE MASTER CYLINDER FAILED AND KEPT PUSHING THE BRAKE FLUID INTO THE BOOSTER.

ON JULY 18, 2019 VEHICLE (2016 FORD F150 WITH 51,721 MILES) DRIVEN UNDER HIGHWAY CONDITIONS EXPERIENCE A 'LOW BRAKE FLUID' WARNING FOLLOWED AFTERWARDS WITH COMPLETE LOSS OF BRAKES WHEN ATTEMPTING TO SECURE THE VEHICLE TO A SAFE CONDITION. FORTUNATELY THE DRIVING SITUATION ALLOWED THE VEHICLE TO BE SECURED SAFELY. UPON INSPECTING THE VEHICLE THERE WERE NO INDICATION OF BRAKE FLUID LOSS THROUGH BROKEN BRAKE LINES OR SYSTEM LEAKAGE. SUBSEQUENTLY TRANSPORTED THE VEHICLE TO THE VEHICLE OUR ORIGINATING FORD DEALERSHIP, THE SHOP DIAGNOSTIC RESULT WAS THE 'FAILURE OF THE MASTER BRAKE CYLINDER REAR CUP SEAL'. ADDITIONAL DAMAGE INCLUDED THE BOOSTER PUMP DUE TO BRAKE FLUID CONTAMINATION. ISSUES: THIS IS THE SAME FAILURE TO WHICH FORD MOTOR PREVIOUSLY RECALLED 2013 - 2014 F150'S. AT 51K MILES, THE FAILURE OF A MASTER CYLINDER IS PREMATURE. DURING ROUTINE MAINTENANCE, INSPECTION OF THE MASTER CYLINDER DOES NOT READILY LEAD TO INDICATION OF POTENTIAL FAILURE OR NEED FOR REPLACEMENT. THIS FAILURE COULD BE CATASTROPHIC UNDER THE RIGHT CONDITIONS IF PROPER OPERATOR CONTROL IS NOT FOLLOWED - LOWER SPEED BY REDUCING GEARING AND USING THE EMERGENCY BRAKES. THE REPLACEMENTS ARE OEM FACTORY PARTS; POSSIBLY THE SAME MANUFACTURE AS THAT REPLACED WHICH COULD BE POTENTIAL FOR FUTURE FAILURE (THIS COULD NOT BE CLARIFIED BY THE FORD SHOP AT THE TIME OF THE WORK)! THE PRIMARY CONCERN OF COURSE POTENTIAL FOR RELAPSE OF THE SAME EVENT. SECONDARILY IS THE PREMATURE EXPENSE OF MASTER BRAKE CYLINDER AND BOOSTER PUMP REPLACEMENT.

THE VEHICLE WAS ALSO TAKEN TO JACKSON FORD OF DECATUR (455 E PERSHING RD, DECATUR, IL 62526, (844) 846-7281) WHERE A REPAIR APPOINTMENT WAS SCHEDULED. THE PARKING BRAKE WAS ACTIVATED AND THE VEHICLE SLOWED TO A STOP. A TOWING SERVICE WAS CONTACTED; HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE WAS STILL WAITING TO BE TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT BRAKE FLUID WAS ADDED TO THE BRAKE RESERVOIR; HOWEVER, AFTER SEVERAL SECONDS, THE BRAKE RESERVOIR WAS EMPTY AGAIN. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 23,000.

UPON PULLING OUT OF PARKING SPACE, LOW BRAKE FLUID LIGHT CAME ON AND BRAKE PEDAL LOST ALL PRESSURE. WENT BACK INTO STORE TO PURCHASE MORE BRAKE FLUID. REFILLED AND LOW FLUID LIGHT CAME BACK ON BEFORE LEAVING PARKING LOT. DROVE TO ANOTHER LOT AND REFILLED RESERVOIR AS IT WAS EMPTY AGAIN. NO SIGNS OF EXTERNAL LEAKS. UPON VIEWING OTHER IDENTICAL COMPLAINTS, I BELIEVE IT IS LEAKING INTO BRAKE BOOSTER, WHICH HAS NOT YET BEEN RECALLED FOR THIS MODEL YEAR. F150 ONLY HAS 61,000 MILES.

WHILE DRIVING ON A US HIGHWAY AT 65 MPH, I HAD A NEED TO SUDDENLY APPLY THE BRAKES ON MY 2016 FORD F-150 AND THERE WAS A SUDDEN FAILURE. THE BRAKE PEDAL HAD TO BE DEPRESSED THE ENTIRE DISTANCE TO THE FLOOR TO FINALLY GET THE VEHICLE TO DECELERATE. AFTERWARDS A WARNINGS LIGHT CAME ON INDICATING LOW BRAKE FLUID. DESPITE ADDING FLUID TO THE RESERVOIR THE BRAKES WOULD STILL NOT ENGAGE. THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE BROUGHT FOR SERVICE WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THERE HAD BEEN A FAILURE IN THE MASTER BRAKE CYLINDER. FORTUNATELY THIS DID NOT RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT OR INJURY.
