The vehicle's braking system intermittently self-activates, engaging the brakes with no obstruction, pedestrian, or object present in the vehicle's path and no driver input. This creates an unpredictable, unprovoked braking event while driving, which is a direct safety hazard to the driver and to other vehicles on the road that may not anticipate sudden deceleration. A distinct pattern has been observed: after the brake pedal is touched, the vehicle behaves as though it believes it is on an incline, repeatedly reapplying the brakes on its own in a pulsing or repeated manner, even on flat, level ground with no incline present. This repeated self-application occurs without further driver input. The dealership has attempted repairs on multiple occasions. On the first visit, the brake booster was replaced. This did not resolve the issue, and additionally caused the brake lights to remain illuminated overnight, draining the vehicle battery. On a second visit, a brake bracket was replaced; the self-braking defect recurred within minutes of leaving the dealership. On a third visit, the vehicle was retained by the dealership for approximately three weeks, during which a brake switch was replaced; the defect recurred after approximately one day of normal driving. The problem has been reproduced and acknowledged by the dealership's service department on multiple occasions, as evidenced by the repeated repair attempts targeting the braking system (brake booster, brake bracket, brake switch). Despite three separate repair attempts across different brake-related components, the dealership has been unable to identify or correct the root cause. Dealership service management stated they can only make repair recommendations and cannot guarantee that any given repair will resolve the issue, and that their process involves replacing parts until the defect happens to stop occurring. The dashboard brake warning light is on, and an ABS warning light also illuminates intermittently.

The contact stated that while driving at various speeds and attempting to decelerate, there was an abnormal sound while depressing the brake pedal and the brake went to the floorboard. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a local dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the brake master cylinder and brake pump might need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired due to the cost. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 82,600.

The vehicle was able to restart; however, the failure recurred. The dealer was not contacted, and the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. BOUGHT WITH 22K MILES ABOUT 1 1/2 YEARS AGO. THE CRUISE CONTROL SPEED AND THE SPEEDOMETER ISSUES HAVE ALWAYS BEEN PRESENT. WHEN USING CRUISE CONTROL (UNDER 45 SUBURBAN AND URBAN STREETS) THE CAR SOMETIMES CANNOT REGULATE ON SLIGHT INCLINES AND SPEEDS UP BY UP TO 5 MPH OVER SETTING AND DOESN'T DECELERATE. SEVERAL TIMES IT'S DONE IT ON FLAT ROADS. IT'S NEVER DONE THIS ON THE FREEWAY EVEN COMING UP SLOPES. IT'S RARE THAT MY DIGITAL SPEED READING IS THE SAME AS MY SET CRUISE CONTROL SPEED. MY DIGITAL SPEED READING ALSO USUALLY DIFFERS FROM MY SPEEDOMETER BY ABOUT 2-4 MPH ALSO, SOMETIME LAST SUMMER AN ISSUE WITH MY BRAKES HAS BEEN OCCURRING AND IS BECOMING MORE FREQUENT. WHEN FIRST STARTING MY CAR (I NOTICE IT ON DAMP OR DEWY MORNINGS) I CAN HEAR MY BRAKES AS I'M BACKING DOWN MY SLIGHTLY SLOPED, CEMENT DRIVEWAY. ALL AIRBAGS DEPLOYED AND I BECAME HYSTERICAL. THE FUMES FROM THE AIR BAGS WERE THROUGHOUT THE CAR. I WAS SCREAMING AND CRYING AT THE SAME TIME. I WAS ABLE TO PUT THE CAR INTO PARK AND FOUND MY CELL PHONE ON THE FLOOR WHICH FELL FROM MY PURSE AND CALLED 911. I WAS UNABLE TO REACH THE DOOR HANDLE TO GET OUT OF THE CAR. NOISE CAN BE REPRODUCED ON PRIVATE GARAGE, PUBLIC ROAD AND OR HIGHWAY. THAT DISGUSTING NOISE IS ALWAYS THERE. TOYOTA IS NOT TAKING ANY ACTION ABOUT THIS... I LOOKED AT MY DASH AND IT SAID SOMETHING ABOUT CHECK BRAKE SYSTEM. I WENT STRAIGHT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND TURNED THE CAR OFF. WHEN THEY TRIED TO DUPLICATE IT THEY COULD NOT. THEY PULLED THE INFORMATION FROM THE COMPUTER TO FIND OUT MY BRAKE BOOSTER HAD FAILED? THEY ARE UNSURE IF IT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN. I LOOKED UP ON THE INTERNET (NHTSA) TO SEE IF ANY OTHER 2015 TOYOTAS HAD THIS SAME PROBLEM. IT SAID TOYOTA KNOWS ABOUT THE ISSUE YET THERE ARE NOT ENOUGH OF THEM HAVING THE ISSUE TO DO A RECALL. THIS NEEDS TO BE A RECALL. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE! MY CAR HAS HAD ALL OF ITS REQUIRED MAINTENANCE.

THEY CALLED LATER AND INFORMED ME NOTHING WAS WRONG. I ASKED THEM TO RECHECK AS I KNEW SOMETHING WAS WRONG SINCE THE BRAKE DID NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY AND MADE A TERRIBLE NOISE. IT IS REQUIRING THE REPLACEMENT OF THE BRAKE BOOSTER AND BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER AFTER ONLY TWO YEARS ON THE ROADS. THE MILES ON THE CAR ARE APPROXIMATELY 87,000 MILES. BUT SERVICE PERSONNEL SAID SHE HAS NOT SEEN A PROBLEM LIKE THIS WITH THE 2015 TOYOTA CAMRY.

I WAS DRIVING ON I35 NORTHBOUND AT SET SPEED LIMIT. SUDDENLY A MOTORBIKE IN FORNT OF ME ME HIT THE BRAKES TO AVOID COLLISION WITH A CAR IN FORNT OF IT. I HIT MY BRAKES, TO THE MAXIMUM. I SLID QUIET LONG DISTANCE AND CAME TO A FINAL STOP. I NEARLY HIT THE BIKER, BUT I COULD FEEL THE BRAKES NOT BEING ABLE TO SLOW DOWN THE CAR. A WEEK AFTER THIS, SAME THING HAPPENED BUT IN A CITY TRAFFIC SIGNAL. I WAS TRYING TO STOP IN A RED LIGHT, BUT AGAIN THE CAR SLID THIS TIME AND THE CAR STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF INTERSECTION. LUCKILY NOBODY WAS IN THE STREET, OTHERWISE BOTH OF THESE INCIDENCES COULD HAVE BEEN A FATAL ACCIDENTS.

ON THE WAY TO THE DEALERSHIP, BRAKES FAILED TO WORK AND I PANICKED AND PUMPED MORE THAN ONCE. HEARD A "THUD" NOISE AND LO AND BEHOLD THE BRAKE LIGHT AND THE MESSAGE DISAPPEARED. DEALER CONFIRMED THAT THERE WAS A MAINTAINENCE CODE (WITH THE SCANNER) AND THAT THEY ARE REPLACING "BRAKE BOOSTER". VEHICLE STILL UNDER WARRANTY SO LUCKILY I DONT HAVE TO PAY ANYTHING. HOW IS TOYOTA ABLE TO GET AWAY WITHOUT A RECALL OF FAULTY BRAKES? HOW MANY FOLKS WILL HAVE TO GET HURT OR DIE BEFORE AN ACTION IS TAKEN.
