The contact owned a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving 35 MPH, multiple warning lights illuminated. The contact noticed smoke emitting from under the hood. The contact pulled over to the side of the road and immediately exited the vehicle. The contact opened the hood and flames were visible. In addition, the electrical throttle illuminated, and the temperature gauge displayed it was hot. The fire extinguished on its own. The vehicle was towed to the dealer. The vehicle was diagnosed and informed the contact that the wires were damaged by the fire up to the location where the starter was located. However, no cause for the fire was found. The vehicle was towed to another independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the vehicle was sabotaged. The vehicle had unknown electrical work completed on the vehicle. However, the vehicle failed to start. Most recently, it was discovered that there was a mileage discrepancy. The vehicle was a dealer sale. At the time of purchase, the vehicle's mileage was 224,495 and at the time of registration, it was discovered that the mileage on the title was 26,270. The insurance company was not notified. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 225,585.

The contact's son and the other passengers exited the vehicle and walked 20 feet away. The contact stated that the entire vehicle caught on fire. The fire was extinguished by the fire department. The contact stated that the vehicle was severely burned from the front end to the rear seats. There were no injuries sustained. The contact was unsure whether a fire department report and a police report were filed. The vehicle was towed and totaled. The dealer and the manufacturer were notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 150,000.

Our car was stopped and then engine started intermittently lunging forward for no reason. Rear ended the car in front of us and had to use the emergency brake to stop the car. Jeep Corp sent an independent inspector to check the car but only shared the car was drivable and didn't say there was a problem. They wouldn't share the computer findings with us or the dealer, only that is was drivable. They also wouldn't allow the dealer to see the computer while it was being tested. The car is currently parked and we bought another car. Waiting for Jeep to cover replacing parts or do something to the Jeep before it has another accident.

Started the car and heard a high pitched whining coming from engine compartment. Reversed the vehicle about 20-25 feet and smelled burning rubber and then smoke started coming from the engine compartment. Turned off the vehicle and opened the hood, and saw that smoke was coming from the alternator. The alternator continued to smoke for approximately 15-20 minutes. We had the vehicle towed to a mechanic as it was completely inoperable at this point, and we had to have the alternator and battery replaced, as well as a wiring harness. The replaced alternator was shown to us by the mechanic and it was black and melted in spots. This seems related to NHTSA Safety Recall T36/NHTSA 17V-435, but NHTSA site is showing no open recalls for the vehicle and Chrysler insists the vehicle is not under any recalls.

Additionally, while the transmission was shifted into neutral (N), the vehicle stalled, causing the contact to crash into a tree. The contact sustained injuries, and medical attention was received. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard. The vehicle was deemed totaled by the insurance company. Additionally, the contact stated that when he turned off the AC, the vehicle would shut off. The contact stated that while the transmission was shifted into drive (D) it inadvertently shifted into neutral (N). The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 99,000.

The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated while driving at 35-40 MPH, the message "Low Volt" was displayed. Additionally, the contact stated that he heard an abnormal squealing sound coming from the hood and he noticed a burning rubber odor. The contact was able to drive to his nearby residence where he noticed smoke coming out from underneath the hood. The contact stated upon opening the hood, he noticed smoke and flames coming out of the alternator. The contact was able to extinguish the fire with the water hose. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic the next morning. The independent mechanic diagnosed that the alternator experienced a short circuit. The independent mechanic related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V435000 (Electrical System). The dealer was contacted and informed the contact that they could not repair the vehicle under the recall as the VIN was not included. The independent mechanic replaced the alternator and the battery. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but advised the dealer and referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 145,000.

Service shifter Transfer case Radio malfunction Gear Shifter Shifter got stuck in park i had to forcefully pull the shifter to get it to go into drive. Monday Feb 14, 2022 approximately around 9:00pm I drove my 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee to the gas station. I pull up at the gas pumps and pit the shifter to park, I exit the vechile and lock the doors, go inside the store to pay for my purchase and as im walking out I look and my jeep was gone. So I look around and I see it across the highway in a ditch. So I take off Running to my vechile and get in the vechile to try and reverse it but its automactilly goes right back into park. So I get out and look at the damage because there is a guard rail cables. My car has front end damage because it was stuck under the cables. Made a police report. I called the dealership where I am leasing the vechile from and they do not wanna help me. I've had nothing put problems with this vechile since I got it. This really needs to be looked into. What if my babies were in the car. Thankfully there was no oncoming traffic at that time. Becauae its a busy highway. I also have video footage of the incident from that night.

The contact stated that while the vehicle was idled in a parking lot, the alternator overheated and there was smoke coming from under the hood while the engine was revving. The vehicle shutoff, and the contact could not restart the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V435000 (Electrical System). The mechanic replaced the alternator, battery, serpentine belt, and cabin air filter. The vehicle was also taken to the dealer per the manufacturer's request. The dealer performed an inspection and informed the contact that all the repairs performed by the independent mechanic were per the dealer's specifications. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and three cases were opened. The manufacturer informed the contact to take the vehicle to the dealer for inspection and submit all necessary documents and receipts for reimbursement. The manufacturer later denied the contact's request for reimbursement due to the vehicle being out of warranty. The failure mileage was approximately 112,000. THE CONSUMER STATED THE MANUFACTURER OFFERED A REIMBURSMENT FOR A PORTION OF THE TOWING AND REPAIR COSTS. THE CONSUMER RELUCTANTLY ACCEPTED THE OFFER.

FRIDAY AFTERNOON I DROVE FROM SCHOOL AT 1:20 TO HWY 12 AND MISSION ON MY WAY HOME. WITHIN A FEW BLOCKS THE BATTERY LIGHT CAME ON AND A NOTICE TO GO TO BATTERY SAVE MODE CAME ON. BY MIDDLE RINCON, I STARTED TO SMELL SOMETHING, BUT NO CHANGE OTHERWISE. AT THAT LIGHT, ANOTHER DRIVER WAVED ME DOWN AND WE PULLED INTO VALERO. HE HELPED ME LIFT THE HOOD, WHICH HAD BILLOWING SMOKE BY THEN COMING OUT, AND HE SAID IT LOOKED LIKE THE ALTERNATOR, BUT DID NOT SEE FIRE. I THEN CALLED LITHIA AND THEN AAA TO GET A TOW TO LITHIA, BECAUSE I WAS CONCERNED ABOUT DRIVING IT ANY FURTHER. I WAS CHARGED $5 FOR THE EXTRA .2 MILES OF THE 5.2 MILES IT TOOK ME TO GET TOWED. I REMEMBERED THAT WHEN I GOT MY OIL CHANGE IN LATE DEC-EARLY JAN, BOB TOLD ME THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE ALTERNATOR, BUT THERE WAS NO PART OR SOLUTION AVAILABLE YET. I DID NOT RECEIVE A RECALL LETTER, BUT RESEARCHED TODAY THAT PEOPLE RECEIVED IT IN JULY 2017. MY DEALERSHIP INSISTS ON GOING THROUGH MY EXTENDED WARRANTY AND A $200 DEDUCTIBLE AND DID NOT GIVE ME A CAR FOR THE DAYS IT'S BEEN THERE SO FAR. A CRASH WAS AVOIDED, BUT THE SITUATION WAS HIGHLY DANGEROUS TO PASSENGERS AND OTHER DRIVERS ON THE ROAD. THIS INCIDENT EXHIBITED ALL THE SYMPTOMS AND WARNINGS FROM CHRYSLER (FCA US LLC) RECALL T36 / NHTSA 17V-435. (SUMMARIZED BELOW) THE VEHICLE LOST POWER AND STALLED WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. JUST PRIOR TO THE STALL, WARNINGS BRIEFLY FLASHED IN THE INSTRUMENT CONTROL PANEL. WARNINGS INCLUDED; BATTERY SAVER MODE, ABS SYSTEM FAILURE, SUSPENSION FAILURE. ALL ELECTRONICS IN THE VEHICLE EXHIBITED BIZARRE BEHAVIOR AND COULD NOT BE CONTROLLED. ADDITIONALLY THE SPEEDOMETER CONTINUALLY RECYCLED AND THE WIPERS TURNED ON WITH NO INTERVENTION. COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER STEERING AND BRAKING OCCURRED. AFTER THE STALL COMPLETED AND THE VEHICLE WAS STOPPED, A LOUD HIGH-PITCHED TICKING NOISE CAME FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. ADDITIONALLY, A PUNGENT BURNING SMELL AND SMOKE CAME FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS COMPLETELY DISABLED AND UNRESPONSIVE AND WAS TOWED TO A JEEP DEALERSHIP ON 2018-01-21. A CLAIM WAS FILLED WITH FCA US LLC RECALL DEPARTMENT ON 2018-01-23. AS OF 2018-01-26, THE DEALER IS STILL WAITING FOR FCA US LLC RECALL DEPARTMENT TO RESPOND. AS OF 2018-01-26, THE PARTS ARE STILL NOT YET AVAILABLE FOR THIS RECALL. T36 / NHTSA 17V-435 RECALL SUMMARY 'THE ALTERNATOR ON YOUR VEHICLE MAY EXPERIENCE DIODE THERMAL FATIGUE FAILURE DUE TO CYCLICAL LOADS INDUCED BY EHPS. WHEN THE DIODES FAIL, THE ALTERNATOR WILL NO LONGER SUPPLY ELECTRICAL ENERGY TO THE VEHICLE AND MAY LEAD TO A VEHICLE STALL WITHOUT WARNING, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH. FAILED DIODES MAY ALSO DEVELOP A RESISTIVE SHORT CIRCUIT THAT CAN RESULT IN HEAT, SMOKE AND/OR FIRE ORIGINATING WITHIN THE ALTERNATOR.'

ON DECEMBER 24, 2017 MY ALTERNATOR SHORT CIRCUITED AND MY ALTERNATOR CAUGHT ON FIRE. MY CAR WAS DOING NOTHING OUT OF THE ORDINARY BY DELIVERING CHRISTMAS GIFTS TO FAMILY AND FRIENDS WITHIN A TWO MILE RADIUS. INITIALLY WHEN I STARTED THE CAR, IT SOUNDED A LITTLE OUT OF THE ORDINARY, BUT NO SIGNS OF HAVING AN ISSUE. I DROVE LESS THAN A MILE, AND IT STARTED TO HAVE AN ELECTRICAL BURNING SMELL. I PARKED MY CAR AND TURNED IT OFF, AND WHEN I STARTED THE CAR AGAIN, THE CAR HAD A HUMMING SOUND, AND THE BATTERY LIGHT CAME ON. I DROVE TEN FEET AND THERE WAS SMOKE EVERYWHERE IN MY VEHICLE. WHEN I OPENED MY HOOD, MY ALTERNATOR WAS ON FIRE. I PARKED THE CAR, AND NEVER DROVE IT AFTER THAT. I HAD TO HAVE MY CAR TOWED TO KONA AUTO CENTER AT MY OWN EXPENSE. KONA AUTO CENTER WAS NOT HELPFUL, AND DID NOT HAVE A REPLACEMENT PART FOR THE ALTERNATOR. THEY TOLD ME TO GO AND BUY ONE, BUT IF SOMETHING HAPPENS THEN IT WOULD BE MY FAULT. THEY GAVE ME THE RUN AROUND, AND I ENDED UP BEING MORE FRUSTRATED BECAUSE THEY WOULD NOT GIVE ME LOANER, AND KEPT TRYING TO UPSELL ME TO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE REPAIR TO MY CAR WAS NOT A CONCERN OF THEIRS, AND THEY COULD NOT GIVE ME A WINDOW OF REPAIR TIME. BEING A SINGLE MOTHER, AND A MANAGER FOR MY COMPANY, I DO NOT HAVE TIME TO WASTE. I ENDED UP TRADING MY JEEP IN, AND NOTHING WAS RESOLVED.

REPAIR DESCRIPTION THE ALTERNATOR PART NUMBER MUST BE INSPECTED ON ALL INVOLVED VEHICLES. VEHICLES FOUND WITH THE SUSPECT ALTERNATOR WILL HAVE IT REPLACED WITH A NEW ALTERNATOR CONTAINING IMPROVED DIODES ON ALL AFFECTED VEHICLES. RECALL STATUS INCOMPLETE BUT REPAIR PARTS ARE NOT AVAILABLE GET NOTIFIED WHEN PARTS ARE AVAILABLE ON DECEMBER 19, 2017 WE EXPERIENCED ONCE AGAIN ANOTHER PROBLEM. AFTER MY SON'S YOUTH BASKETBALL GAME, WE WENT TO THE PARKING LOT TO HEAD A COUPLE OF BLOCKS HOME AT APPROXIMATELY 8:15 PM. TURNING OUT ONTO THE ROADWAY, THE DASHBOARD LIT UP WITH WARNING LIGHT STATING THAT THE BATTERY WAS LOW AND THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING STARTED HOWLING. I SHUT DOWN AS MUCH OF THE INFOTAINMENT CENTER AS POSSIBLE TO CONSERVE POWER TO MAKE SURE THAT I MADE IT HOME. THE FRONT WINDSHIELD STARTED TO FOG UP SO I TURNED THE DEFROSTER ON LOW. AS SOON AS THE AIR STARTED COMING OUT, I COULD SMELL AN ELECTRICAL FIRE. UPON MY ARRIVAL HOME, I POPPED OPEN THE HOOD AND COULD SMELL ELECTRICAL BURN. I DECIDED TO SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF AND RESEARCH RECALLS AND TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETINS. I BELIEVE THIS NEW ISSUE FALLS UNDER RECALL T75.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE VEHICLE DECELERATED RAPIDLY AND THERE WAS A HIGH PITCHED NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE. THE CONTACT NOTICED A BURNING ODOR INSIDE THE VEHICLE. IN ADDITION, THE BATTERY VOLTAGE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED WITHOUT WARNING AS THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO DECELERATE. THE CONTACT EXITED THE VEHICLE AND CONTACTED AAA ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE, BUT THE BATTERY COULD NOT BE TESTED BECAUSE IT WAS LOCATED UNDER THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. AN UNKNOWN JEEP DEALER IN HATTIESBURG, MISSISSIPPI WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL ON THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS BEING INVESTIGATED AND THAT NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 17V435000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) MAY EXPAND TO INCLUDE THE CONTACT'S VIN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 60,400.

THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V634000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 84,000. UPDATED 12/13/2017 *LN *JS
