WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE STREET, THE PASSENGER ACTIVE HEADREST STRUCK OUR PASSENGER IN THE HEAD. NOT ONLY DID THIS CAUSE PHYSICAL PAIN, IT IS ALSO ALARMING THAT THE GOVERNMENT HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL REGARDING THIS. A SIMPLE GOOGLE SEARCH ELICITS HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS, YET FCA AND JEEP HAVE NOT BEEN REQUIRED TO FIX THIS. IT'S CLEAR THAT OUR JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE SUFFERS FROM THE VERY COMMON PROBLEM OF BROKEN PLASTIC WHICH RELEASES THE ACTIVE HEADREST. UTTERLY APPALLED THAT NHTSA AND FCA ARE AWARE OF THIS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION AND YET CHOOSE TO DO NOTHING. INITIAL RESEARCH IS SHOWING THIS WILL COST ME OVER $600 TO FIX. *TR

THE HEADREST "DEPLOYED" ON ME WHILE DRIVING, BOPPING ME IN THE HEAD. I DON'T KNOW HOW OR WHAT TO GET THAT FIXED UNDER. THE VEHICLE WAS IN REGULAR LOW SPEED MOTION PULLING THROUGH A PARKING LOT. I BELIEVE THERE IS A DESIGN FLAW IN THE HEADREST THAT CAUSED CLIPS TO BREAK AND THEREFORE HIT ME IN THE HEAD. I BELIEVE THIS MAY BE A HUGE SAFETY RISK FOR THOSE WHO DON'T LEAN AS FAR AS I DO OR EVEN USE THE HEADREST. ALSO I WAS MOVING AT LESS THAN 5 MILES PER HOUR, THIS COULD BE A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE IF SOMEONE WAS MOVING AT A MUCH FASTER VELOCITY. I ALSO DON'T KNOW HOW THIS DEVICE WORKS OR IF ITS LIKE AN AIRBAG, AM I AT RISK IF IT RE-DEPLOYS IN THE ACTUAL CASE OF AN ACCIDENT?

ON 8-11-2019 I WAS DRIVING STRAIGHT ON A PAVED ROAD WITH MY WIFE IN THE PASSENGERS SEAT AT 35 MPH. I HEARD A VERY LOUD POP AND MY WIFE LAID FORWARD ON HER LAP IN SEVERE PAIN. THE NOISE SOUNDED LIKE A GUN SHOT. WE BOTH THOUGHT THAT MY WIFE WAS SHOT BY A GUN. SHE YELLED IN PAIN. SHE ASKED ME TO CHECK HER HEAD AND NECK FOR ANY SIGNS OF BLOOD. I PULLED OVER AND CHECKED HER OUT. I NOTICED AT THAT POINT THE PASSENGER SIDE ACTIVE HEADREST HAD DEPLOYED AND STRUCK HER IN THE HEAD. WE WERE NOT IN A ACCIDENT OR IMPACTING ANYTHING. SHE HAD HEADACHES, NECK PAIN ,VOMITING AND LOSS OF SLEEP FOR TWO WEEKS. I HAVE CALLED AND E-MAILED CHRYSLER AND THEY OPENED UP A CASE. CHRYSLER SENT OUT A INSPECTOR TO INSPECT OUR JEEP AT THE JEEP DEALERSHIP. THIS ACTIVE HEADREST DEPLOYING IS VERY DANGEROUS. THIS HAS CAUSED SERIOUS INJURIES. NO MORE PEOPLE NEED TO GET HURT BECAUSE OF THESE DEFECTIVE DEPLOYING ACTIVE HEADRESTS. WE NEED A MANDATORY FACTORY RECALL ISSUED. THE ACTIVE HEAD REST DEPLOYED WHILE WE WERE PARKED AND EATING TACO BELL AFTER DRIVING THROUGH THE DRIVE THROUGH. MY GIRLFRIEND AND I HAD PARKED THE JEEP AND BEGAN EATING SOME TACOS. WHILE PARKED, I HEARD A POP SOUND LIKE AN EXPLOSION. IT SOUNDED LIKE A PISTOL HAD BEEN SHOT OFF NEAR MY VEHICLE, I EVEN DUCKED FOR COVER TO ANTICIPATE THE POSSIBILITY OF MORE SHOTS, THEN I REALIZED MY GIRLFRIEND WAS INJURED. SHE HAD BEEN HIT IN THE BACK OF THE HEAD. NOT BY A GUNSHOT BUT BY MY JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE'S (LIMITED 4X4 3.6L V6 2014) ACTIVE HEAD REST SAFETY SYSTEM HAD DEPLOYED WHILE PARKED AND STRUCK HER IN THE BACK OF THE HEAD WHILE WE ATE FOOD IN THE PARKING LOT. MY GIRLFRIEND IS [XXX] AND SHE HAS SINCE SEEN A DOCTOR AND MISSED TIME OFF OF WORK OVER THE INJURY AND PAIN RESULTING FROM THIS DEFECTIVE HEADREST. AFTER READING THAT THERE HAVE BEEN OVER 150 COMPLAINTS OF THIS OCCURRING ALREADY, JEEP, CHRYSLER, DODGE, IS WELL AWARE OF THIS AND THEY HAVE DONE NOTHING TO MAKE ITS OWNERS AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THEY SHOULD BE RECALLING THIS IMMEDIATELY AND THEY KNOW IT. BUT BECAUSE THE DEVICE CANNOT BE REASSEMBLED AFTERWARDS AND MUST BE REPLACED ENTIRELY (COST FOR THE HEADREST ALONE IS ABOUT $800) AND THERE'S TWO PER VEHICLE (AT A MINIMUM) WHICH WOULD RESULT IN JEEP HAVING TO SPEND A GREAT DEAL OF ADDITIONAL TIME AND RESOURCES INCLUDING THE MOST IMPORTANT TO THEM - MONEY. SO BECAUSE JEEP DIDN'T WANT TO ACCOUNT FOR A SMALL DEDUCTION IN THEIR 1.6 BILLION DOLLARS IN PRE-TAX ANNUAL PROFITS, MY GIRLFRIEND AND I HAVE HAD TO SUFFER INSTEAD. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS ACCIDENT AND JUST IMAGINE IF I WERE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN IT DEPLOYED AND STRUCK ME I WOULD BE A DEAD MAN FOR SURE AND THERE MAY BE OTHERS AS WELL. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT SUSTAINED NECK AND BACK INJURIES THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO HUFFINES CHRYSLER JEEP DODGE RAM PLANO (LOCATED AT 4500 W PLANO PKWY, PLANO, TX 75093, (972) 867-6000) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE HEADREST SECURITY CLIP FAILED AND THE ENTIRE HEADREST NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 74,000.

THIS SAME SITUATION OCCURRED WITH THE PASSENGER ON A SEPARATE OCCASION 2 WEEKS LATER.

THIS IS VERY UNSAFE AND THESE HEADRESTS SHOULD NOT BE IN ANY VEHICLE AT ALL. I FEAR NOW THAT WHILE I'M DRIVING THAT THE DRIVER SIDE HEADREST WILL DEPLOYED FOR NO REASON AND HURT ME TOO WHILE DRIVING. THE WIRING HARNESS THAT RUNS TO THE DRIVER SIDE POWER SEAT CONTROLS HAS RUBBED UP AGAINST THE METAL FRAME AND FAILED. THIS FAILURE HAS CAUSED A SMALL ELECTRICAL FIRE DUE TO ARCHING WHICH IS ONLY SOLVED BY PULLING THE FUSE. A NEW WIRE HARNESS IS NEEDED TO FIX. DEALERSHIP SAYS THIS IS NOT UNDER WARRANTY. COULD HAVE CAUSED FATALITY IF SEAT WAS COMPLETELY ENGULFED.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 120.

FURTHERMORE, MY CAR HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP FOR OVER 56 DAYS NOW, AND THE PARTS REQUIRED TO FIX THE SEAT ARE NOT AVAILABLE. I HAVE BEEN GIVEN NO APPROXIMATE DATE OF HAVING THE SEAT FIXED AND AM WITHOUT A CAR INDEFINITELY. I HAVE ALSO BEEN TOLD THAT MANY OTHER S ARE WAITING FOR THIS PART, AT LEAST 57 CASES OF SPECIAL ORDER, LEADING ME TO BELIEVE THAT PRODUCTION HAS STOPPED DUE TO A DEFECT. *TR
