The car broke down the very first day I got it! The alternator had to be changed I took it back to Auto connection where I got it from and they replaced it. Since then the car has been breaking down, I have had to pay for out of pocket for a new thermostat, another alternator, hoses, fuel pump, and I have only had the car a yr. Now it’s making a loud hissing noise after I just paid for brand new spark plugs and it’s not accelerating and ver 40/45 mph! Which is costing me more money to pay for a uber to work and everywhere I need to go while still making car payments! My insurance doesn’t handle these repairs. I need immediate help please!

Thermostat keeps going to hot or stops working and drops to cold. Replaced thermostat coolant sensor since that’s what the code popped up. Didn’t work it continues to out. Radiator cap is collecting engine oil and not coolant. Engine oil is getting into my radiator hose. I had just got my radiator and stuff replaced by the dealership. I only had it for 6 months and been putting a lot of money in it and I’m still having engine and thermostat and radiator problems. Also it keeps smoking when it already has coolant in it.

I was slowing to make a left turn and the engine began to sound like it was accelerating. A lightning bolt light, skid warning light and check engine light all came on. I needed to get it home, but the car wouldn’t go above 25mph. Googling says that it has a stuck throttle body. Have not attempted to fix yet.

The vehicle just shuts off while in gear and in motion. Very dangerous. Lights come on (engine light, break light…) for a brief second before it randomly shuts off. It seems like the computer goes out, because on re start, the clock reset to 12:00 and there are no check engine lights on. It has happened several times over the past few hundred miles. An Internet search will show similar problems for other Jeep owners with no resolution. Obviously a defect.

The first time the situation occurred we were out of town. Warning lights appeared. The car had sluggish acceleration, noisy, rough ride, hesitating, jerking type movements . We thought it was going to stop. The message appeared "Do not drive the vehicle." My husband took the Jeep to the dealer and they were supposed to have fixed it. He was told it was the throttle. We drove the Jeep and the problem stopped for a while. It occurred again on May 25, 2023 and we had to turn around and go back home and park the vehicle and we have not been able to drive it. I found the following information; 2014 Jeep Compass Among Chrysler Vehicles Recalled for Stall Risk. We have never received a letter about a recall. Warning lights came across the board.

My car stalls while driving often. I’ve also experienced my car shutting off while driving a few times. It sometimes shows a red lightning bolt. I am very scared for my life and the lives of other drivers while I drive this vehicle because I never know if or when my car will stall in the middle of me driving at speeds above 50 miles per hour. The car will usually stall for about 10-15seconds and then power back on, but sometimes the car just shuts off and slows down so I have to pull over because it wont accelerate since the car just shut off. After pulling over, I wait bout 10 minutes and turn the car on and it’s fine. I took it to a mechanic multiple times and they can’t find the issue. They said they can only see what I’m talking about if the dash shows the check engine light but my check engine light is not on. This vehicle is not safe and I’m so afraid of the car shutting off mid driving. This started 2 years ago but the shut offs and stalls have been more frequent this year. Mechanics kept telling me it was probably spark plugs and we’ve changed those and the coils more than 6 times.

Was driving and the vehicle lost all power just as we were turning to cross a road. We would have made it easily if the power was not cut. The car would not accelerate even when the accelerator was pressed all the way down. We were lucky to avoid being hit. Turns out the throttle body failed. I was told this is a very common problem on Chrysler Jeep 2.0 and 2.4 models

I owned a 2014 Jeep Compass with 63,xxx miles on it. I bought the vehicle brand new. On (3) occasions so far, the engine stalled out immediately after filling the gas tank. It will restart and sputter for 10-15 seconds and then run just fine. On the latest incident, after leaving a gas station after filling up the gas tank, I went to pull out into heavy, busy traffic, the engine stalled out once again. Placing me in a very dangerous situation! Obviously! My research on Jeep forums and other car maintenance websites shows the problem is very likely caused by a bad/defective Rollover Valve. The rollover valve is located inside the gas tank. Apparently, the valve gets triggered off while refilling the gas tank when near full. Noted that the Check Engine Light did not common on. During my research on Jeep Forums and other related Jeep websites, I've noticed the engine stalling issue on many other Jeep Compass and Jeep Patriots.

1.Electrical: the touch screen, which is used for the radio & backup camera, is completely shot. One day in May, I was driving my car & the screen went from working to a fuzzy image & then to it going completely black. The radio stopped working as well. The lights around the screen (connected to the buttons) work but tend to flicker every now & then. This is a safety risk for myself & my family because I don’t have the extra support & awareness to backup with confidence or warnings. It hasn’t been looked at by anyone & there were no warnings prior to failure. It has been a consistent failure since then. 2. Engine: Jeep keeps overheating. Has been since April. It was inspected by a mechanic & also paid to have it “fixed” however the problem persists. It is a safety issue because my car could overheat & stop working & cause issues with other drivers. I also have a 5 yo & we have to drive around with the windows down & heat on no matter the weather. Sometimes we get home & her face is bright red. Sometimes the warning light comes on & the fluid is at the appropriate level. 3. Tire pressure in at least one of my tires is always low. I receive a warning light almost every time I drive. These are brand new tires. After I fill up the tire, it is only “fixed” approx 1 day before the light comes back on. It was checked by mechanic & he stated there were no issues he could find. This has been ongoing since December 2021. This is a safety issue because I could get a flat tire & crash into other vehicles or cause an accident. Jeep is available for inspection upon request for all issues.

While driving, car completely shuts off. All lights and signals will blink for a quick second, then shuts off. Keyhole will not turn to turn car on, no clicking sound that car is attempting to turn on, unable to turn on emergency lights, can't move to neutral or turn steering wheel, everything locks. Happened twice in the middle of the street. After a few mins (20 mins or more) car turns on again for a few mins before turning off again. Full gas, battery and transmission checked and still working. Vehicle was up to date with oil changes and recalls.

The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Compass. The contact stated while driving approximately 20 MPH and accelerating, the vehicle hesitated and failed to accelerate as needed. The contact pulled off the road and heard a high-pitched noise from the engine. The contact saw that the RPM gauge had moved into the red and the check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact turned the vehicle off and upon restarting the vehicle was able to drive at a normal speed however, the failure recurred. The contact drove the vehicle to her residence and had not taken the vehicle to a dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. MY ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM FAULT INDICATOR, STABILITY CONTROL INDICATOR AND 4 WHEEL DRIVE (WITH EXCLAMATION POINT) INDICATOR ARE ON WHEN ENGINE STARTS. WITHIN 15 SECONDS OF ME DRIVING, ALL INDICATOR LIGHTS BRIEFLY TURN OFF. THAT IS FOLLOWED BY A ~5 SECONDS OF MY CAR STALLING WITH THE STABILITY CONTROL INDICATOR BLINKING. SHORTLY AFTER, ALL LIGHTS TURN BACK ON. THIS IS AN ONGOING ISSUE THAT I HAVE TESTED MULTIPLE TIMES OVER THE COURSE OF A WEEK. I AM WORRIED TO TAKE MY CAR OUTSIDE OF MY NEIGHBORHOOD AND BELIEVE IT IS AN ISSUE CAUSED BY THE VEHICLE AS OPPOSED TO SELF-INFLICTED. NOTE: I HAVE REPLACED THE BATTERY AND THE ISSUE REMAINS. THE VEHICLE HAS JUST UNDER 75,000 MILES.

ON MARCH 4, WHILE VEHICLE WAS IN WARM-UP PHASE AT HOME, IN IDLE, A SHARP SNAP WAS HEARD (LATER DISCOVERED WAS THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY), THEN VEHICLE SET TWO CODES (P0171, P2173), AND IMMEDIATELY WENT INTO LIMP MODE (TRACTION CONTROL OFF, THROTTLE BODY REDUCED POWER, ABS FOR SLOWING VEHICLE IF BEING DRIVEN ABOVE SLOWER SPEEDS FOR LIMP MODE). WE WERE ON A SCHEDULE, SO VEHICLE WAS SHUT OFF IMMEDIATELY AND WE USED OUR OTHER VEHICLE FOR TRANSPORT. BOTH CODES WERE RESEARCHED TO DETERMINE BEST REPAIR METHODS. SINCE THE P0171 WAS A REPEAT CODE, AND THE P2173 WAS AN UNFAMILIAR SAE CODE NOT NORMALLY USED ON MY PREVIOUS VEHICLES, A COMPLETE DISASSEMBLY OF THE INTAKE WAS WARRANTED. I AM MECHANICALLY COMPETENT DUE TO TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE AND KNOW MY OWN LIMITS OF COMPETENCY AND TOOLS FOR REPAIR. HERE ARE THE BASICS FOR REFERENCE OF WHAT WAS FOUND. 1. THE PCV VALVE (MULTIAIRE) HAD FAILED AT THE INTERNAL PINTLE, AND WAS ALLOWING CRANKCASE AIR/OIL TO ENTER THE INTAKE AT TOO HIGH A VOLUME. IT WAS REPLACED. THE MAP SENSOR SET THE P2173 CODE, THEN FAILED DUE TO OIL INTRUSION AND WAS REPLACED. THE RAPID SNAPPING OF THE THROTTLE BODY UNDER PRESSURE UNCALIBRATED THE INTERNAL THROTTLE POSITION SENSORS, AND COULD NOT MAINTAIN PROPER POSITION WAS REPLACED. THE INTAKE MANIFOLD (NEWER DESIGN FOR THE 2.0L I4 WITHOUT THE FLAPPER CONTROLS JUST GUIDE VEINS FOR THE INTAKE AIR) MAIN GASKET HAD SHRUNK IN THE PLASTIC INTAKE SEAT CHANNEL AND WAS ALLOWING OUTSIDE AIR (P0171) TO SEEP PAST THE GASKET ON THE LOWER LIP OF THE GASKET, AND WAS ALSO NOT SEALING BETWEEN THE CYLINDERS (GASES WERE TRANSFERRING BETWEEN THE CYLINDERS). THE THROTTLE BODY GASKET WAS PRISTINE. DURING REPAIR, PRESSURE TESTED INTAKE FOR LEAKS, AND TUBES AND LINES FOR CRACKS. READING SAE CODE P2173 WAS DETERMINED THAT CODE AND SUBSEQUENT LIMP MODE WAS DESIGNED TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE PLASTIC INTAKE MANIFOLD. IT WORKED.*DT CONSUMER STATED THE REASON FOR GASKET NOT SEALING, BLOW BY-GASES FROM ONE CYLINDER TO ANOTHER. CYLINDER HEAD WAS CHECK AND PLASTIC INTAKE FOR WARPING, THEY WERE FINE. Vehicle was just inspected and passed PA State Emissions and is performing properly since the repairs. The PCV valve is still suspected as the culprit to the failures, and they have been difficult to procure in the secondary market, except OEM. Consumer still replacing the valve at 20K miles just to be sure it does not fail in service.*JB

I HAVE A 2014 KEEP COMPASS WITH A 2.0L ENGINE AND FOR SOME TIME NOW IT HAS BEEN STALLING OUT REALLY BAD AND ALSO HAS PROBLEMS WITH WANTING TO START BUT TODAY ON DECEMBER THE 9TH AT ABOUT 5:30PM OR SO I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE AT A HIGH SPEED OF ABOUT 80MPH WHEN I HAD NOTICED MY CAR WAS TRYING TO GET KINDA HOT SO I TURNED MY HEATER ON TO SEE IF THAT WOULD DROP THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE DOWN ANY WHICH MIND YOU IT DID NOT BUT INSTEAD I LOST ALL ENGINE POWER AND ALSO ACCELERATION AS WELL AND WHEN I WOULD GIVE GAS IT WOULD NOT DO ANYTHING BUT RISE MY RPMS TO EXTREMELY HIGH LEVEL SO THE ONLY THING I KNEW TO DO WAS GET IT OFF OF THE ROAD AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE. WHAT'S CONCERNING ME THOUGH IS THAT THEIR IS A RECALL ON MY CAR BUT WITH A 2.4L ENGINE NOT THE 2.0L BUT WHEN I WAS READING THE RECALL FOR SAID ENGINE TYPE THE EXACT SAME SYMPTOMS APPLIED TO WHAT MY CAR DID TODAY SO I'M WONDERING IF THAT RECALL SHOULD BE APPLIED TO THE 2.0L ENGINES AS WELL.
