I was entering highway on entrance ramp there was a loud pop and I could see plumes of smoke coming from under the car, so I turned the ignition off on the car and pulled over to the shoulder, the brakes failed so I had to let it coast to a stop. Then I waited until I could safely exit the vehicle and did so quickly. I had the vehicle towed to a local shop, and they told me I should report it. There was no warning that it was about to happen and yes its available for inspection still sitting at the shop I had it towed to. They also said I should have it towed to the manufacturer service center but this is my first time dealing with anything like this so Im unsure what to do. I did do a cursory inspection under the hood with a mechanic from the shop and there was a burnt wire and a bunch of what looked like oil down at the bottom of the engine, but the oil was still full so I dont think it was oil.

How to use these: a complaint is one owner’s report, filed voluntarily and published unverified. Patterns matter more than any single story. If several owners describe the same failure at similar mileage, put that system at the top of your pre-purchase inspection list. Back to the full 2014 Hyundai Accent verdict →
