What happened? While driving my 2014 Honda Accord, both the brake and steering warning lights suddenly illuminated. The steering became difficult, indicating a loss of power steering assist. I pulled over safely and discovered that the ABS light remained on. After towing the vehicle to a service center, the technician confirmed that the ABS pump/module had failed, which triggered both warning lights and caused a failure in the power steering system. This malfunction poses a serious safety risk, potentially leading to loss of braking efficiency and steering control. The failure was sudden, with no prior warning signs. The service center advised that the ABS module requires replacement. Legal Protections and Manufacturer Liability: As a consumer, I am protected under state lemon laws and the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. These laws mandate that vehicles sold must be free from defects affecting safety and performance. The ABS pump/module failure directly compromises the vehicle’s safety, making Honda responsible for repair or replacement. I should not bear the cost of this repair, as the issue is a manufacturing defect. Widespread Safety Issue and Call for Investigation: It has come to my attention that thousands of 2014 Honda Accords are experiencing the same ABS pump/module failure, a clear safety issue that affects both the braking and steering systems. This is a widespread defect that Honda has yet to acknowledge with a formal recall. This issue appears to be purposefully hidden, and I urge Honda to initiate a thorough investigation and recall to address this danger. If Honda does not act quickly, I will pursue legal action to ensure the safety of affected consumers, including complaints to regulatory bodies and potential class action litigation.

STEERING WHEEL SUDDENLY LOCKED UP ON ME AS I WAS DRIVING DOWN A 2 LANE CITY STREET. CONDITIONS WERE DRY, AND WAS IN A RESIDENTIAL AREA, SO SPEED LIMIT WAS 35. UPON NOT BEING ABLE TO STEER THE CAR I ENDED UP HITTING A CABLE LINE WIRE, AND WAS SPUN INTO THE FRONT YARD OF SOME TOWNHOMES. I ENDED UP ALSO HITTING SOME LARGE ROCKS AND LANDING IN BETWEEN 2 LARGE TREES. UPON COMING TO A STOP, I THEN REALIZE THAT THE IMPACT HAD ALSO CAUSED MY SIDE AIRBAGS TO DEPLOY. DUE TO THE LOUD CRASH ONE OF THE RESIDENTS CAME OUT TO SEE WHAT HAD HAPPENED AS I HAD LANDED OUTSIDE OF HER HOMES WINDOW. I THEN CONTACTED THE LOCAL POLICE DEPARTMENT, WHO CAME AND DID A REPORT AND CONTACT A LOCAL TOWING AGENCY AS THE CAR WAS NOT DRIVABLE.

I WAS ON MY WAY TO LA DRIVING MY 2014 HONDA ACCORD LX, SOUTHBOUND ON HWY 5. AFTER ABOUT 3 HOURS OF DRIVING, I WAS IN THE RIGHT LANE WITH BOTH HANDS ON THE WHEEL, CRUISE CONTROL ON GOING ABOUT 72 MPH WHEN THE CAR SUDDENLY VEERED TO THE LEFT. I TRIED TO SLOW DOWN WITH THE BRAKE AND FOUGHT WITH THE CAR TRYING TO GET IT TO GO STRAIGHT HOWEVER THE CAR WAS OUT OF CONTROL. I TRIED TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE RIGHT TO STOP THE CAR FROM GOING TO THE LEFT HOWEVER THE CAR WOULD NOT COOPERATE AND WAS ALL OVER THE ROAD, BOTH LANES. IT CONTINUED TO SWERVE LEFT INTO THE RIGHT LANE CAUSING IT TO SPIN BACKWARDS OFF THE ROAD AND INTO THE DIRT. I STILL WAS UNABLE TO STOP THE CAR AS IT CONTINUED THEN ROLLED OVER. I WAS UPSIDE DOWN AND TRAPPED IN MY CAR. MY FEET WERE UNDER THE STEERING WHEEL AND MY BODY WAS LENGTHWISE ACROSS THE PASSENGER SEAT....MY SEAT BELT STILL ON. I UNBUCKLED AND TRIED TO OPEN THE DOOR WHICH I COULD NOT OPEN. MY CELL PHONE WAS ON A CHARGER AND WAS STILL WITHIN REACH SO I IMMEDIATELY CALLED 911 (9:35AM) AND TOLD DISPATCH I WAS IN AN ACCIDENT AND ANOTHER MOTORIST HAD ALREADY CALLED IT IN. THE CHP OFFICER WAS ABLE TO PULL THE DOOR OPEN. I HAD A TOWEL ON THE PASSENGER SEAT WHICH WAS NOW UNDER ME SO I HANDED IT TO HIM TO LAY OVER THE GLASS, I WAS THEN ABLE TO CRAWL OUT OF MY CAR. MY HANDS WERE BLEEDING ESPECIALLY ONE SPOT ON MY LEFT HAND THAT WOULDN'T STOP SO THE OFFICER GOT OUT HIS EMERGENCY BAG AND HANDED ME GAUZE TO PUT ON MY HAND. EVENTUALLY THE BLEEDING STOPPED. THE CHP SAID HE HAS SEEN ACCIDENTS LIKE MINE AND THE OUTCOME WAS NOT GOOD. 2014 HONDA ACCORDS ARE UNDER INVESTIGATION FOR POWER STEERING ISSUES. COMPLAINTS STATE 'CAR PULLING TO THE LEFT'. (CARPROBLEMZOO.COM) MEDICAL ISSUES: WHIPLASH, SOFT TISSUE INJURY TO NECK AND BACK, CUTS TO HANDS AND LEFT ARM, BRUISES TO LEFT ARM, THIGH AND KNEE. WAS UNABLE TO UPLOAD PICTURES.

LOSS OF POWER STEERING WHILE TURNING AT A CURVE. WELL KNOWN ROAD, IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD, UP A HILL. DRIVE IT DAILY. TO AVOID HITTING, CLIMBED ON CURB, , TOOK ENTIRE STRENGTH I HAD TO PUT VEHICLE BACK IN STRAIGHT LINE. AS A RESULT CAR SUFFERED MINOR DAMAGE, I PULLED SOME MUSCLES I NEVER KNEW I HAD. I BARELY AVOIDED HITTING THE A BILLBOARD SIGN HEAD ON. I AM GRATEFUL FOR THERE BEING NO PEDESTRIANS ON THE SIDEWALK, AS IT IS CLOSE TO AN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. FLUID LEAKED FROM CAR AFTERWARDS. I NEVER HAD ISSUES WITH THE CAR PRIOR, HAD IT FOR A YEAR, A BRAND NEW LEASE. HONDA DEALERSHIP SAID ALL THE DAMAGE IS FROM THE IMPACT TO CURB. CANNOT FIND FAULTS. DANGEROUS SITUATION.

How to use these: a complaint is one owner’s report, filed voluntarily and published unverified. Patterns matter more than any single story. If several owners describe the same failure at similar mileage, put that system at the top of your pre-purchase inspection list. Back to the full 2014 Honda Accord Plug In Hybrid verdict →
