The car had been running properly for months/years without any complaints. Last week while driving on a surface street, after a turn, the car that was going at about 40 MPH, suddenly started accelerating by itself to may be 70 or 80 MPH, this confused and shocked the driver and to avoid hitting the cars in front, the driver crashed the car into a tree. The car was totaled, fortunately the driver did not have any serious injuries. Talked to a private mechanic if there is a way to find out what happened. He said that based on the amount of damage and the fact that the car most probably cannot be started, he would not really be able to find what happened. Are there other BMW's that have had such issues.

How to use these: a complaint is one owner’s report, filed voluntarily and published unverified. Patterns matter more than any single story. If several owners describe the same failure at similar mileage, put that system at the top of your pre-purchase inspection list. Back to the full 2014 BMW 740i verdict →
