April 2025, my 2013 F150 downshifting to first gear driving about 45 mph almost causing me a serious accident. I contacted my local Greenbrier Ford in Lewisburg West Virginia after pulling the code from my Hum to see what it was and was informed that there was a consumer appreciation survey that was mailed out between May 9th and May 15th 2019 that letter went to the previous owner of this VIN number and not addressed to me therefore Greenbrier Ford said that the time had passed and I had to pay $1,300.30 out of my pocket for a safety recall. After picking up the vehicle I was going through my paperwork because Greenbrier Ford has done all mechanical work on my vehicle since I purchased it in April of 2019 in July of 2019 they updated the original downshifting to first gear did not inform me nor did they inform me when I went in in May of 2025 and they updated the recall that had expired in October of 2023 regarding the letter that did not come to me as the owner but to the previous owner. I feel as though Ford should have covered this and I am actively working to get a refund on that money as I see there is a new recall out on this downshifting to first gear I would like to know how I could go about submitting for a refund.

The incident happens while driving home from work. I was on the highway going around 60mph. The vehicle then shifted from 6th gear to 1st gear. My rear tires locked up and the vehicle started to fish tail as it was screeching to a halt. I was able to shift to neutral, maintain control and pull over to the side of the highway. I believe the transmission is the component that malfunctioned. My saftey and the saftey of others was put at risk by the vehicle locking the tires up at highway speeds. I believe if the circumstances had been different, this malfunction could have cause serious injury or death to myself as well as other vehicles around me. The problem has not been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent inspector. the vehicle or component has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police or insurance representatives. Prior warnings or messages are unknown. There were no warning lamps on the vehicle when the incident happened.

F150 downshifted into first gear while driving down the highway at full speed. Speedometer stopped registering. Sudden and abrupt deceleration. Engine warning light on. Took the truck to the local Ford dealer, Malloy Ford Charlottesville, VA and Service department said the molded leadframe needed to be replaced per Customer Satifaction Program (CSP) 19N01, but Ford would not cover the cost. I believe that Ford needs to cover the cost. I never received a letter notification from Ford and had it in service at the same dealer in August 2022 and they did not notify me of the outstanding CSP and need to service per 19N01.

My 2013 F150 had been acting strangely in showing a wrench on the LED screen and shutting off the electrical components on my dash. when this happens, it also sticks the transmission in between 3-5th gear. I am unable to shift down to 1st or 2nd gear, or up to 6th gear. After this happened a few times, it started to shift me in to Park and stop my wheels from turning. This happened to me 3 times while traveling down the highway at 80mph. All 3 times, it lasted only a few seconds, but it was enough to screech my brand new tires and leave marks on the ground as if I had slammed on my brakes. It returns to normal and continues down the road.

I never got a notification regarding the recall for the transmission lead frame code. I just recently started having issues with this problem, where my truck will downshift to 1st gear while driving at highway speeds. This nearly threw me and my two young daughters off the road. I took it to the dealership, and they told me that they are unable to help me due to the 10-year mark being passed, even though my truck has less than 103,000 miles. So now I am out of a vehicle, and Ford is not willing to help.

My 2013 has the same transmission problem of an unexpected downshift to 1st gear while driving at highway speeds as the newer model year F150’s. I would like to see all F150’s with that model transmission (6R80) included into the recall. I believe this would include 2011 through 2018 model years.

I keep seeing about the f-150/s being recalled for the rear view cameras not working but mine works and doesn’t works sometimes but keep being told that there is no recall but if you google any of the problems i have it is a reoccurring problem in other 2013 f-150s. Also problems with rear sliding heated back window the driverside shatters. The molded frame transmission needed repaired or replaced. Ecoboost leaking antifreeze behind passenger side front tire. The timing and phasers needing replaced. All are known common problems but ive been told are not recallable problems.

How to use these: a complaint is one owner’s report, filed voluntarily and published unverified. Patterns matter more than any single story.
