I CAME OUT OF A STORE AND UPON GETTING IN MY DURANGO I STARTED IT AND NOTICED SMOKE AND SMELLED A BURNING ELECTRICAL SMELL. THE HOOD WOULDN'T OPEN BECAUSE IT HAD ALREADY BURNED THROUGH THE CABLE THAT ATTACHES THE HOOD RELEASE. WITHIN A FEW SECONDS THE WHOLE FRONT END WAS ON FIRE. I CALLED THE FIRE DEPARTMENT AND THEY HAD IT PUT OUT PRETTY QUICKLY. I'VE ONLY HAD THE VEHICLE FOR EXACTLY A YEAR ALMOST TO THE DAY. THE ONLY PROBLEM WE'VE HAD WITH IT IS THE DRIVER'S SIDE HEADLIGHT WENT OUT. WE HAD IT REPLACED AND IT WENT OUT AGAIN WITHIN A COUPLE OF WEEKS SO WE HAD IT CHANGED AGAIN. I DID NOTICE THAT ONE HEADLIGHT WAS BRIGHTER THAN THE OTHER BUT THOUGHT IT WAS JUST DIFFERENT BULBS. APPARENTLY IT WASN'T. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN A PARKING LOT NEXT TO A WHOLE CAGE FULL OF PROPANE TANKS NOW THAT'S PRETTY SCARY.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 DODGE DURANGO. WHILE DRIVING 15 MPH, AN ABNORMAL NOISE WAS HEARD AND A STRANGE ODOR WAS PRESENT. THE CONTACT OBSERVED SMOKE UNDER THE HOOD. THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM CAUGHT FIRE WITHOUT WARNING, BUT THERE WERE NO VISIBLE FLAMES. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS NOT NEEDED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ALTERNATOR AND BATTERY FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 90,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ALTERNATOR CAUGHT FIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,200.

THE CONTACT CHECKED UNDER THE HOOD AND NOTICED A BURNING ODOR COMING FROM ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V634000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A SIDE IMPACT THAT RAISED VEHICLE TO APPROXIMATELY 30 DEGREES. BODY SHOP SAID AIRBAGS SHOULD HAVE DEPLOYED. EXPLAINED TO THE DEALER ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS AND THERE WAS NO CHECK DONE TO CONFIRM THAT AIRBAGS WERE IN WORKING ORDER. DEALER SAYS THAT IT OBVIOUSLY WASN'T SUFFICIENT ENOUGH IMPACT TO DEPLOY AIRBAGS. I'M NOT CONVINCED AFTER READING ABOUT DEFECTS. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM WAS ADDRESSED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS REGARDING WINDOW GOING UP AND DOWN, LOCKING SYSTEM AND ALARM SYSTEM ACTUATING ON THEIR OWN, WHILE DRIVING AND WHEN PARKED. DEALER SAID THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE ISSUE, BUT WHEN IT FINALLY WAS PROVEN, THEY REPAIRED THE WINDOW ONLY AND WE WERE FORCED TO PAY TO GET OUTER VEHICLE BACK. I FEEL THAT THERE IS AN ELECTRICAL SYSTEM ISSUE.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 DODGE DURANGO. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE LEFT TURN SIGNAL WARNING LIGHT AND THE PARKING ASSIST ERROR WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO DECELERATE. THE CONTACT MANAGED TO MERGE OVER TO AN EMERGENCY LANE AND EXITED THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE INSPECTING THE LEFT TURN SIGNAL LIGHT, THE FRONT AND REAR WINDSHIELD WIPERS ACTIVATED INDEPENDENTLY, WASHER FLUID EJECTED, AND THE HORN INDEPENDENTLY BEEPED. ALSO, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT SMOKE WAS EMITTING FROM THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE AND THE DOORS LOCKED. AFTER OPENING THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT FLAMES WERE EMITTING FROM THE VEHICLE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FIRE, HOWEVER, THE FIRE EXTINGUISHED PRIOR TO THEIR ARRIVAL. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE INCIDENT HAD BEEN REFERRED TO A SPECIAL INVESTIGATIVE UNIT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 23,000.
