When the fuel vents on the top of the fuel cell get old, they are extremally brittle. Washboard roads or a pot hole can jar the fuel tank breaking the connectors that go to the emissions system and the rollover valve. If any of these plastic pieces break, there is a chance for fueling problems and effects the drivability of the vehicle. The 3 connector vent is a non-serviceable part, requiring the gas tank to be replaced. The replacement has the same plastic connectors, leaving the possibility for breakage. These connectors breaking can lead to a multitude of issues, including but not limited to fuel spills while filling, leaking fuel from hoses. I have had 2 tanks in my 2012 jku have this issue and a quick search on jeep forums will show that this is not an isolated problem.

Engine Stalls Randomly while Driving. Will crank over several times and over approx 10-15 min. of cranking(Say every 3-5min) vehicle will and will restart. No check engine lights and no warning. The loss of power can be dangerous since brake and steering assist require engine to be running. Vehicle will be fine for several days local commute and problem will recur without warning, usually on longer commute. Vehicle is unsafe and unpredictable.

The skid plate assembly that retains the fuel tank is very corroded, corroded to the point of the fuel tank dropping out of the vehicle if not repaired as soon as possible. The other part of this issue is when trying to get this part, there is a backorder of approximately 50 of the skid plate assemblys! This information was provided to me by the Chrysler/ Dodge/ Ram /Jeep Dealership from where we purchased the vehicle new, and that has done all of the repair work on this vehicle since we bought it. The 2 things I find to be very concerning with this issue are the potential fire hazard if, and when a fuel tank were to fall out of the vehicle and the issue of a parts back order appears to show there is an ongoing issue with this very serious situation . Also this vehicle has never been used off-road or for any extreme off-road activities, solely on road use. I did contact Chrysler in regards to my concerns, but other than attempting to get the part shipped sooner, I was told the vehicle is out of warranty and there is no recall on it so there is nothing they can do.

Occasionally we would smell gasoline fumes. The occurrence became more frequent to the point we had a mechanic check it out. The mechanic dropped the gas tank and found that there is a steel ring between the tank and the fuel pump flange. This flange had rusted and expanded to the point of cracking the fuel pump flange. Mechanic replaced the flange, seal and fuel pump. I have retained the cracked fuel pump.

The contact owns a 2012 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that while refueling, fuel spilled out when the automatic shut off activated on the fuel pump. The contact stated that the failure recurred. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer was not notified of the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure however, no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 75,000.

I ALWAYS DONE MY SERVICE AT DEALERSHIP AND APPARENTLY SUPPOSEDLY NOTHING HAS BEEN REPORTED OF THIS NATURE.IT FEELS LIKE IT'S ON CRUISE CONTROL WITH HAVING A SPEED OF IT'S OWN BUT BRAKES ARE NOT RESPONDING NORMALLY. HOWEVER, ABOUT A WEEK AGO I WAS WATCHING CHANNEL 4 NEWS AND THEY REPORTED A RECALL FOR 2011-2013 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE AND DURANGOS FOR ENGINE STALLING ISSUES RELATED TO THE FUEL PUMP. WE USE THIS JEEP ONLY FOR HIGHWAY TRAVEL. IT HAS 48,000 MILES. ON OUR WAY TO CHURCH, YES UNBELIEVABLY WE HAD A STRONG SMELL OF 'GASOLINE' ONCE WE ARRIVED BACK HOME THERE WAS A STEADY STREAM OF GASOLINE RUNNING DOWN THE BELL HOUSING OF THE TRANSMISSION TO THE GROUND, THIS WAS IN AN AREA ABOUT UNDERNEATH THE FRONT SEATS OR NEAR THE REAR OF THE ENGINE. THIS LEAK OCCURRED ONLY WHILE THE JEEP WAS IDLING. ONCE WE TURNED THE ENGINE OFF, THE GASOLINE STOPPED LEAKING OR RUNNING DOWN THE BELL HOUSING. THE GREATLY ALARMED US DUE TO THE POTENTIAL IT COULD EASILY HAVE IGNITED TO FLAMES SINCE THIS WAS VERY FLAMMABLE GASOLINE LEAKING WAS SO CLOSE TO SO MANY OTHER HOT EXHAUST PARTS. WE HAD TO TOW THE JEEP (OBVIOUSLY NOT DRIVING IT LEAKING SO MUCH GAS ANY LONGER) TO OUR JEEP DEALER SERVICE CENTER FOR FURTHER INSPECTION AND REPAIR. THEY DISCOVERED A SMALL LENGTHWISE SPLIT IN THE FORWARD HARD PLASTIC FUEL LINE SEVERAL INCHES FROM WHERE IT ATTACHES TO THE FUEL RAIL. THIS IS THE FUEL LINE TUBE THAT GOES TO THE END OF THE ENGINE. I HAD SEVERAL TIMES REQUESTED THE JEEP DEALER TO SAVE THE OLD DEFECTIVE PARTS BUT THEY THREW THEM AWAY. I HONESTLY DONT KNOW IF THAT WAS BY DESIGN TO AVOID A RECALL OR NOT, I CERTAINLY WOULD HAVE PHOTOGRAPHED THE SPLIT WOULD I HAVE HAD THE PART.

VEHICLE STALLED WHILE IN MOTION ON A HIGHWAY. THIS HAS BEEN A CONSISTENT ISSUE FOR THE LAST SEVERAL YEARS. I BELIEVE IT FIRST OCCURRED IN 2016. THE VEHICLE WILL JUST STALL ON A CITY STREET, IN A RESIDENTIAL AREA, OR EVEN ON THE HIGHWAY. FUEL WAS NOT RELATED AS IT HAS HAPPENED ON A FULL TANK OF GAS OR A QUARTER TANK. IT WAS TAKEN TO THE JEEP DEALERSHIP ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS (THAT HAS BEEN DOCUMENTED) BECAUSE OF THIS DANGEROUS HAZARD, AND THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO REPLICATE SO IT WAS NEVER FIXED. I EVEN SHOWED THEM VIDEO EVIDENCE 3 TIMES. THE VEHICLE JUST STALLS RANDOMLY WHILE DRIVING (IN THE MIDDLE OF HIGH SPEED TRAFFIC). THE RPM WOULD JUST GO TO ZERO, AND WHEN TRYING TO START THE CAR BACK UP, IT WOULD TRY TO CRANK, BUT WOULD NOT START. THE CAR WOULD HAVE TO BE TURNED OFF FOR 5 MINUTES AND THEN THE CAR WOULD EVENTUALLY START AGAIN. THIS WOULD OCCUR AT LEAST 1/MONTH FOR SEVERAL MONTHS. THE JEEP DEALERSHIP REPLACED FUEL PUMP, AND CHECKED OTHER COMPONENTS AS THE ENGINE LIGHT NEVER TURNED ON, AND THEY COULD NOT FIND THE RESOLUTION TO THIS ISSUE. THIS IS A HIGHLY DANGEROUS PROBLEM AND SEEMS TO BE VERY COMMON AMONG THIS MODEL YEAR JEEP, AND JEEP CONTINUES TO CLAIM NO FAULT. SOMEONE COULD DIE IF THEIR CAR STALLED ON THE HIGHWAY WITH CARS GOING 70+ MPH. AN EXPERIENCED DRIVER MAY BE ABLE TO MANEUVER, BUT CERTAINLY AN INEXPERIENCED DRIVER WOULD NOT. THIS VEHICLE WAS INTENDED TO BE FOR A TEENAGE CHILD, BUT I COULD NOT KNOWINGLY GIVE THIS TO THEM HAVING THIS UNRESOLVED ISSUE. AFTER MUCH RESEARCH, I BELIEVE IT IS A FAULTY OR DEFECTIVE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR, BUT JEEP REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE THIS AND CONTINUES TO SAY THIS IS NOT THE ISSUE, YET THE CAR HAS CONTINUED TO STALL ON VARIOUS OCCASIONS STILL. THEY SHOULD BE LIABLE FOR ANY SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH THAT MAY POTENTIALLY OCCUR! I WILL BE TAKING THIS VEHICLE TO BE REPAIRED ELSEWHERE AFTER MY OWN RESEARCH AND TROUBLESHOOTING.

I RESEARCHED THIS ONLINE, AND IT APPEARS THIS PROBLEM IS COMMON TO JEEP WRANGLER OWNERS, AND JEEP IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM, BUT HAS NOT DONE ANYTHING TO FIX PROBLEM. OVERALL, THE OVERFLOWING OF GAS FROM TANK UPON EACH FILL-UP PRESENTS A SIGNIFICANT RISK TO VEHICLE OWNERS AND GAS STATION ATTENDANTS (NOTE: I LIVE IN NJ, AND STATE LAW REQUIRED GAS STATION ATTENDANTS, I.E., NOT VEHICLE OWNERS, TO PUMP ALL GAS INTO VEHICLES). I BELIEVE JEEP SHOULD DO SOMETHING TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM, AND UNDERSTAND THAT THEY INITIATED A VOLUNTARY RECALL FOR 2007 TO 2009 JEEP WRANGLERS, BUT NOT LATER MODELS.

THIS INDEED HAPPENED AGAIN JUST A WEEK AGO SUNDAY WHEN WE WENT TO FILL UP AND I WAS SPEAKING WITH A GENTLEMEN WHO HAD JUST BOUGHT HIS JEEP AND I WAS TALKING TO HIM ABOUT HIS AND IF HE HAS HAD ISSUE WITH HIS GAS TANK OVERFLOWING. AS I WAS TALKING TO HIM YEP, YOU GUESSED IT, IT OVERFLOWED. NOW, I READ TODAY THAT CHRYSLER HAS SAID THAT IT HAS TO DO WITH THE TYPE OF FUEL YOU PUT INTO THE TANK?? REALLY??? SO I HAVE PUT IN ANYWHERE FROM 85, 87, 90, AND HIGHER GRADE FUELS, AND IT STILL HAPPENS? NEXT ARE THEY GOING TO SAY IT IS THE GAS STATION COMPANY I GO TO? THE WAY I PUT THE NOZZLE INTO THE TANK? (DOES THIS SOUNDS SARCASTIC WHEN YOU READ IT? GOOD) I FIND THAT COMMENT FROM CHRYSLER ABSOLUTELY DEMEANING AND IDIOTIC!!! IT HAS BEEN A KNOWN ISSUE ON SEVERAL PREVIOUS MODELS OF JEEPS, BUT FOR SOME REASON THEY ARE GOING TO IGNORE THIS ONE? WHAT WILL IT TAKE CHRYSLER? WILL IT TAKE A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT TO GET YOUR COMPANY TO FIX THE PROBLEM? I NOW JUST READ A REPLY THAT SOMEONE HAD CONTACTED A LAW FIRM IN REGARDS TO A CLASS ACTION SUIT AND THAT IT HAD BEEN TRANSFERRED TO BANKRUPTCY COURT IN NEW YORK WHERE IT WAS STILL ALIVE AND THAT THE COURT HAD GRANTED CHRYSLER'S MOTION TO DISMISS STATING THEY ARE BARRED BY THE SALE ORDER BETWEEN BANKRUPT CHRYSLER AND THE NEW CHRYSLER.
