The steering locked up and was completely unable to turn the wheel. This resulted in an accident that sent the car into a ditch. The safety recall for the steering was fixed and it failed again, in which it cost me 1700 to replace the same part again. It has AGAIN failed!!! This is extremely unsafe and should not fail on multiple occasions. This problem needs to be resolved!!!!

I was driving, the power steering failed and caused me to start to lose control of my vehicle while turning on the freeway, which caused me to slightly crash into the side wall and almost go over the highway into the water. I also hit my head on the driver side window and felt very dizzy for a while afterwards. Because I was so in shock and scared, I wasn’t able to drive the car home for hours, so I pulled onto the side of the road and called my family to let them know what happened. When I purchased the vehicle I wasn’t informed of any issues with the model. Both this model and several others were included as part of a recall, and the car was taken into the shop and “repaired” by past owners, yet the power steering failed again. There is no active unrepaired recall because the car was brought in before and worked on by Ford mechanics who then cleared the recall after fixing the car because they deemed the issue to be addressed. However, the issue is still ongoing. It is not fixed at all. I purchased this car last year, and if I would’ve known this would happen or that the car had so many issues I never would’ve bought it. I’ve taken the car to several dealerships that have said the problem is a complete failure of the steering gear, yet when I take it in to ford dealerships they state that the “extended warranty is expired” and that they can’t do anything about the vehicle needing a recall. I almost lost my life, I have a car that I cannot drive and have not been able to drive ever since the incident occurred. Why am I being punished because my car has been refused to be repaired, and because Ford has refused to provide me any reimbursement for the problem? To whoever reads this, thank you so much for taking the time to read and help me with this problem, as my vehicle is how I’m able to ensure survival and I’ve been struggling to survive without any type of vehicle.

The owns contact owns a 2012 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that their daughter was driving approximately 55 mph when the steering wheel began jerking and shaking. While slowing down to make a right turn when the power steering suddenly failed causing them to crash into a guardrail. The air bags did not deploy. The vehicle was towed due to the power steering failing and being too difficult to drive. The driver did not receive any injuries or medical attention. A police report was not filed. The vehicle was taken to a certified mechanic who installed a power steering and performed a computer flash. The failure persisted after the repair and had begun to do so more consistently. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred to the NHTSA Hotline. The approximate failure mileage was 140,000.

The braking system failed. Yes it’s available upon request for inspection. The safety of myself and others were put at risk because it caused me to hit something in front of me. I stepped on the brakes and the pedal went straight to the floor. This has happened multiple times it is putting my safety as well as my children’s safety at risk. When I step on the brake pedal there is nothing goes to the floor till I pump the pedal. Initial Lu when hitting the pedal it jerks the steering wheel out of my hand to the right every time. It’s not only putting my children’s, and my self in harms way but any other driver that might be even near me while driving considering it takes the steering wheel out of my hand uncontrollably.

The power steering assist randomly went out and caused me to almost crash into a wall when I was on the freeway taking the car home. The previous owner had gotten into an accident with the vehicle which had also resulted from the power steering randomly going out, and the power steering is now out completely on the vehicle and yet seems to come on randomly while having to manually steer the vehicle. I just got the vehicle and am the most recent owner, but since the vehicle has over 150,000 miles on it and it has been over 10 years, Ford and its dealerships are saying there’s nothing they can do to fix it. However, I know that these issues going on with the car (power steering assist and electronic throttle body issues) are related to the recall on the vehicle. There are apparently no active recalls on the vehicle, but I know that the previous owners may have taken the car in for problems related to the recall. However, I also know that the company is required to fix problems related to the recall no matter how many years the warranty is or how many miles the vehicle has on it, so I’m unsure why both Ford and its dealerships are saying there’s nothing they can do and that I’ll have to pay for a diagnostic fee and then the repair fees associated with the problem, and I just got the vehicle. I don’t feel that it’s fair that I pay for repair costs associated with a recall on several other Ford Fusion vehicles as well (2011-2012) when those recall related problems almost killed me, and upon researching it no other cars have power steering assist, electronic throttle body and airbag problems like the ford fusion.

The contact stated their sister owns a 2012 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that their sister was driving approximately 45 mph when the steering wheel suddenly locked and failed to turn left or right. The driver then veered off to the side of the road where due to the lack of steering, the vehicle crashed into a tree stump. No air bags deployed. The driver did not have injuries or need medical attention. No police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to the dealer who then informed the contact that the failure related to Customer Satisfaction Program 15N01 (Steering) which was under NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V340000 (Steering) however the customer satisfaction program had since expired. The vehicle had not been repaired as of yet. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 219,000.

I WAS DRIVING MY 2012 FORD FUSION SEL DOWN A STREET ON OCTOBER 4TH 2020 NEAR WHERE I LIVE AND THIS ALARM STARTED GOING OFF AND IT ALERTED ME THE POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT AND I LOST MY STEERING AND HIT A CURB. LUCKILY I DIDN'T DO ANYMORE DAMAGE OR HIT SOMEONE. I DRUG IT HOME AND HAD A WRECKER PICK IT UP TO TAKE IT TO THE NEAREST FORD DEALERSHIP. THEY DIAGNOSED IT AS A FAULTY STEERING BOX OR RACK AND PINION, IT ALL NEEDS TO BE REPLACED TO THE TUNE OF 1868.00. THE FORD DEALERSHIP FOUND A RECALL FROM 2015 THAT DESCRIBES THIS SAME ISSUE IN 2011-2012 FORD FUSIONS BUT FOR SOME REASON MY VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED, MAYBE BY MISTAKE SEEMS HOW IT'S THE SAME PART THAT FORD KNEW WAS CAUSING PROBLEMS. IT'S JUST A GOOD THING THAT I DIDN'T HIT SOMEONE AND KILL THEM WITH FORD KNOWING THIS WAS A ISSUE WITH THESE CARS AND DIDN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. I HOPE YOU WILL DO YOUR DO DILIGENCE ON THESE ISSUES AND FIX EVERY ONE OF THEM BEFORE SOMEONE DOES GET HURT. TRYING TO FORK OVER 1800 IN A TIME LIKE THIS IS VERY TOUGH AND I HOPE YOU CAN MAKE IT RIGHT WITH ALL INVOLVED. THANKS FOR YOUR TIME. I RECEIVED A NOTICE INFORMING ME OF A RECALL ON MY POWER STEERING SYSTEM VIA MAIL. I TOOK MY CAR TO FORD AND THEY CLAIMED TO "RESET" THE POWER STEERING SYSTEM. A YEAR LATER I WAS DRIVING HOME IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT WHEN I SMELLED SOMETHING SIMILAR TO "BURNING RUBBER" COMING THROUGH MY AIR VENTS. SMOKE THEN BEGAN TO COME FROM THE HOOD OF MY CAR AS IT SLOWED DOWN ON ITS OWN. I QUICKLY PULLED OVER INTO THE NEAREST PARKING LOT AND WALKED A SAFE DISTANCE AWAY AFTER SEEING A TROUBLING AMOUNT OF SMOKE COMING FROM THE HOOD. I TOOK MY CAR TO AN AUTO REPAIR SHOP TO FIND THAT THE POWER STEERING SYSTEM HAD SHUT DOWN AND CAUSED MY ALTERNATOR TO FAIL. I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO FORD. THEY TOLD ME THAT ALTHOUGH THERE WAS A RECALL ON MY CAR, FORD WAS REFUSING TO PAY FOR IT BECAUSE OF HOW OLD THE CAR WAS. MY CAR IS A 2012 FORD FUSION AND IT IS INCLUDED IN THE RANGE OF CARS ELIGIBLE FOR THE REPLACEMENT. THEY ALSO FAILED TO GIVE ME THIS INFORMATION THE YEAR BEFORE.

ON THE EVENING OF DEC 29TH, UPON TURNING MY CAR ON WHILE AWAY ON A TRIP TO MORIN HEIGHTS (QUEBEC, CANADA), A "POWER STEERING FAULT" FLASHED ON MY DASH, AND I WAS UNABLE TO TURN MY STEERING WHEEL. NEIGHBOURS IN THE COTTAGE TOLD ME TO DRIVE TO A GAS STATION 1 MILE AWAY WITH MY BLINKERS ON, AND ASK FOR POWER STEERING FLUID. I BARELY MADE IT HALF A MILE OUT OF THE MORIN HEIGHTS VILLAGE, WHEN I GOT STUCK MAKING A SHARP RIGHT TURN FROM RUE ALLEN TO RUE BENNETT TO GET TO ESSO (723 CHEMIN DU VILLAGE, MORIN-HEIGHTS, QC). MY STEERING WHEEL WOULD NOT TURN RIGHT, AND I DANGEROUSLY ENDED UP IN THE LANE FACING OPPOSITE TRAFFIC. I TRIED TO TURN IT LEFT AND CONTINUE GOING STRAIGHT, BUT GOT STUCK IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION. CARS NEARLY HIT ME AND EVERYONE WAS HONKING AT ME. A STRANGER PULLED OVER NEXT TO ME AND USED MANUAL FORCE ON THE STEERING WHEEL TO STEER MY CAR BACK AROUND, AND DROVE IT TO THE ESSO HALF A MILE AWAY. I BOUGHT POWER STEERING FLUID, ONLY TO DISCOVER THERE WAS NO COMPARTMENT TO PUT IT INTO, AND LEARNT THAT THIS IS AN INTERMITTENT ELECTRICAL PROBLEM. WE PARKED MY CAR AT THE GAS STATION AND DEBATED HOW LONG I'LL LEAVE IT THERE FOR, HOW I'LL DRIVE BACK TO NY 480 MILES AWAY, HOW I AM GOING TO RESOLVE THIS MEANWHILE IT'S -15 DEGREES CELSIUS OUTSIDE AND I'M GETTING FROSTBITTEN. AFTER TURNING THE CAR BACK ON, THE "POWER STEER FAULT" WARNING DISAPPEARED AND MY STEERING WHEEL WAS BACK TO NORMAL. NEXT DAY ALL SERVICE SHOPS WERE CLOSED (SUNDAY), AND MONDAY WAS NEW YEARS HOLIDAY. I WAS NERVOUS ABOUT DRIVING THIS UNSAFE VEHICLE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE CHRISTMAS/NEW YEAR HOLIDAYS BACK TO NY, BUT HAD NO OTHER CHOICE. I AM ABSOLUTELY MORTIFIED THAT AFTER SO MANY COMPLAINTS TO FORD CORPORATE ABOUT MY AIRBAG REPLACEMENT, THIS HAD TO HAPPEN. I DEMAND A REPLACEMENT VEHICLE AND FOR SOMEONE TO REACH OUT AND DO SOMETHING ABOUT THESE RECALLS THAT ARE ISSUED, YET NO ACTION BEING TAKEN.
