TL* THE CONTACT'S SON OWNED A 2012 CHEVROLET CAMARO. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE VEHICLE HYDROPLANED AND CRASHED INTO A WOODEN FENCE. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THERE WERE NO INJURIES SUSTAINED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A COLLISION CENTER WHERE IT WAS CONSIDERED A TOTAL LOSS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER OR INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 122,000.

THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY OVERPOWERING A NORMAL PRESSURE ON THE BREAKS WHILE IN GEAR.THIS HAS HAPPENED A TOTAL OF AT LEAST 10 TIMES. LAST OCCURRING THE LAST DAY I DROVE THE VEHICLE. I PLACED THE VEHICLE IN STORAGE AFTERWARDS.

AIR BAG MODULE CLAIMED BY DEALERSHIP IF THE PROBLEM AND WILL COST TO FIX ALONG WITH THROTTLE CONTROL BODY. CAR HAD BEEN DIAGNOSED BY ANOTHER DEALER BUT NOTHING WAS TOLD COULD BE THE TAKA AIRBAG RECALL BUT NOT SURE WITH PRICE OF 1500 FOR REPAIRS THIS ALSO INCLUDES BREAK CHANGING I'M SURE IS NOT THE MAJOR COST. I'VE BEEN TRYING TO GET THIS AIRBAG ISSUE ADDRESSED. THE POWER DOWN AND A DASH INFO POP UP FIRST CAME AT 36000 MILE. ALL ISSUES HAVE BEEN ON HIGHWAY 90 ALSO INTERSTATE 10 ON RAMP AND GENERAL DRIVING.

UPON INITIAL IMPACT, THE STEERING WHEEL, AIRBAG, IGNITION LOCK, TURN SIGNAL AND WIPER SWITCH ASSEMBLY, SPLINE SHAFT AND METAL CYLINDER FROM THE TILT/TELESCOPING ASSEMBLY SEPARATED FROM THE VEHICLE AS A SINGLE ASSEMBLY. THE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY STRUCK THE DRIVER IN THE CHEST AND JAW, BREAKING THE MANDIBLE IN MULTIPLE PLACES. DRIVER ALSO SUSTAINED COMPRESSION FRACTURE OF THE T12 VERTEBRA AMONG OTHER INJURIES. I WOKE UP TO DISCOVER THAT MY ENTIRE CAR WAS ENGULFED IN FLAMES, ALSO SPREADING THE FIRE TO ANOTHER VEHICLE. BOTH VEHICLES ARE NOW TOTALED. THE FIRE DAMAGE WAS SO EXTENSIVE THE CAMARO IS BASICALLY A BURNED FRAME. ALL OF THE GLASS AND BODY MELTED. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT DEEMED THERE WAS NO FOUL PLAY, AND IT WAS AN ELECTRICAL FIRE. I HAVE BEEN LOOKING ONLINE TO SEE IF THERE WERE ANY OTHER SIMILAR INCIDENTS, BUT I HAVE NOT FOUND ANYTHING YET. THE STEERING IN THE CAR HAS SINCE BEEN SO SLOPPY THAT I AM SCARED TO DRIVE IT, THE CAR IS ALL OVER THE ROAD. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THE VEHICLE NEEDED TO BE ALIGNED. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO MY LOCAL TIRE STORE AND THEY CHECKED THE ALIGNMENT WHICH WAS ALL IN FACTORY SPECS. TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER TEST DROVE WITH A TECHNICIAN WHO DROVE WITH ME AND HE STATED IT WAS DEFINITELY NOT AN ALIGNMENT PROBLEM. I LEFT THE VEHICLE AT THE DEALER FOR 3 DAYS AND GOT A CALL THAT IT WAS READY TO BE PICKED UP. WHEN ASKED WHAT WAS DONE I WAS TOLD NOTHING...THE CAR NEEDS TO BE ALIGNED.
