While travelling country road (divided highway) cruising at approximately 65 mph (cruise control engaged) the message indicator went "ding" and the check engine light began flashing. I turned on flashers, slowed down and found a commercial driveway into which I could exit and stop off roadway. After turning off ignition I immediately raised the hood and found active fire (flames) to the rear of the intake manifold and forward of the firewall where the wiring harness is located. I instructed my passenger to immediately exit the vehicle. I had bottles of drinking water with us (hot day in Texas) so I took three or four bottles of water and extinguished the flames from both sides of the upper engine. The flames were immediately extinguished indicating no presence of petroleum products fueling the flames. After ensuring that fire was fully extinguished I called a local towing service to come pick us up and drop the Jeep at a local NAPA repair shop. Shop located and ordered a new wiring harness as opposed to trying to repair existing harness. May file a claim with Auto Insurance after repairs are made.

I WAS DRIVING AT UNDER 10 MPH, ON A TEXAS STATE ROAD WHEN THE PLASTIC FUEL LINE WHICH IS CONNECTED TO THE UNDERSIDE OF THE BODY WITH SOME TYPE OF ADHESIVE FAILED. THIS DROPPED THE FUEL LINE DIRECTLY ON THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER, WHICH MELTED THE FUEL LINE CAUSING A FIRE THAT SPREAD TO THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. APPARENTLY THIS IS AN ISSUE ON THE 4 DOOR MODEL WRANGLERS AS THE 2 DOOR WRANGLERS HAVE A PLATE PREVENTING THIS. THIS ISSUE SHOULD BE LOOKED AT ON ALL 4 DOOR MODELS, RANGING FROM 2008 THROUGH AT LEAST 2013. I HAVE LOOKED AT OTHER 4 DOOR JEEPS AND SEE THAT THEY HAVE THE SAME POTENTIAL ISSUE THERE IS NOTHING THAT PREVENTS THE FUEL LINE FROM COMING INTO CONTACT WITH THE EXHAUST AND POTENTIALLY CAUSING A FIRE.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 JEEP WRANGLER. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE WAS REAR ENDED BY ANOTHER VEHICLE, WHICH CAUSED SEVERAL WARNING LIGHTS TO BECOME ILLUMINATED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE LOWER BACK AND NECK, WHICH REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE CRASH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO GO INTO LIMP MODE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE TOTALLY INTEGRATED POWER MODULE (TIPM) NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 62,000.

I WAS DRIVING MY 2011 JEEP WRANGLER ABOUT 5-8 MPH WHEN I HEARD A POP TYPE OF NOISE. I THEN SAW A FLAME UNDER THE HOOD ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. ALL OF A SUDDEN, MY THROTTLE LOCKED UP AND MY CAR WOULDNT STOP. I HAD BOTH FEET ON THE BRAKES, BUT MY TIRES KEPT SPINNING. MY ELECTRICAL WAS LOCKED UP AND I COULDNT GET THE JEEP OUT OF DRIVE AND INTO PARK. MY BOYFRIEND RAN OVER, JUMPED IN THE PASSENGER SIDE TO TRY TO GET THE JEEP INTO PARK, AS I COULDNT GET IT TO MOVE. HE FRACTURED HIS HAND IN TWO PLACES GETTING THE GEARSHIFT TO GO INTO PARK. AT THIS POINT THERE WAS BLACK SMOKE COMING FROM THE UNDER THE HOOD. HE WAS FINALLY ABLE TO GET IT INTO PARK. AT THAT POINT HE HELPED PULL ME OUT THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE JEEP AS THE FIRE/FLAMES WERE STARTING TO COME THRU THE DASHBOARD INTO THE INSIDE OF THE JEEP. IT TOOK ABOUT AN HOUR TO GET THE FIRE OUT, THEN APPROX. 15-20 MIN LATER THE FIRE STARTED AGAIN ON THE PASSENGER SIDE.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2011 JEEP WRANGLER. AFTER DRIVING 35 MPH AND PARKING THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT EXITED THE VEHICLE. MOMENTS LATER, THE VEHICLE CAUGHT FIRE. THE FIRE WAS EXTINGUISHED BY THE LOCAL FIRE DEPARTMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND TOWED TO SALVAGE YARD WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FIRE STARTED IN THE ENGINE. USING MY 2011 JEEP WRANGLER (RIGHT HAND DRIVE), I DELIVER MAIL FOR THE U.S. POSTAL SERVICE. WAS DELIVERING MAIL ON MY RURAL ROUTE. DATE WAS 4TH OF FEB.2014. THE PROBLEM WAS A FIRE IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE WIRING HARNESS , MANY OTHER WIRES, COMPARTMENT PLASTICS ,AND GAS LINE. THE CAUSE APPEARS TO BE HOT OIL FROM THE TRANSMISSION DIPPING ONTO THE ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION . I ONLY SEE THAT THE FILL TUBE ON THE TRANSMISSION WAS THE LEAK. I HEARD A FIRE IGNITE , OPEN THE CAR HOOD AND SEEN THE BLACK SMOKE I THEN PUT OUT THE FIRE. IT IS NOW THE DATE-MARCH 18 ,2014. I HAVE NO SUPPORT FROM CHRYSLER CORPORATION FOR REPAIR OF MY PROBLEM. THEIR INVESTIGATION STATED AN INVESTIGATION INTO THE INCIDENT FOUND NO MANUFACTURING DEFECT THAT CAUSED THE INCIDENT ON 2-3-2014. I HAVE NOW TURNED THIS OVER TO MY CAR INSURANCE COMPANY . THEY SAY I SHOULD USE THE LEMON LAW. THIS VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED FOR A BAD TRANSMISSION IN NOV. OF 2013. I DO NOT SEE WHY I SHOULD OF HAD MORE PROBLEMS. THE INSURANCE COMPANY COST TO REPAIR IS $5000. IF THE TRANSMISSION IS BAD I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER FOR THE JEEP ,A NEW TRANSMISSION WOULD COST ME PERSONALLY $5000. THANK YOU. *TR

I STARTED MY JEEP THIS MORNING IN MY DRIVEWAY WITH THE FACTORY REMOTE START, 10 MIN LATER I WALKED OUT OF MY HOUSE AND SAW FLAMES AND SMOKE COMING FROM MY DRIVERS SIDE DOOR. A CAR DRIVING BY HAD STOPPED AND CALLED 911. ANOTHER NEIGHBOR RAN OVER WITH A FIRE EXTINGUISHER AND WE WERE ABLE TO GET THE FIRE IN CONTROL BEFORE THE FIRE DEPARTMENT GOT THERE. THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR IS COMPLETELY DESTROYED AND MELTED, THE WINDOW IS GONE. THE ROOF, SEAT AND SURROUNDING AREA ARE ALSO DAMAGED. THE FIRE APPEARED TO HAVE STARTED SOMEWHERE IN THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR. I CALLED JEEP TWICE TODAY THINKING THEY WOULD BE CONCERNED AND RESPONSIVE, BUT I WAS TOLD IT WOULD BE 2-5 DAYS BEFORE THEY COULD HAVE SOMEONE COME OUT AND INSPECT THE CAR. IN THE MEANTIME I WAIT CARLESS...THANK GOODNESS MY 2 CHILDREN WERE NOT IN THE CAR WHEN IT HAPPENED. I DID SOME RESEARCH THIS EVENING AND FOUND THE EXACT SAME THING HAPPENED TO A COUPLE IN MONTREAL LAST JANUARY AND FOUND REPORTS OF THIS HAPPENING 2 OTHER TIMES WITH THE EXACT SAME MAKE, MODEL & YEAR JEEP. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 JEEP WRANGLER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE STARTED THE VEHICLE BY USING THE PUSH TO START FEATURE. THE CONTACT THEN OPENED THE FRONT DRIVER'S DOOR AND NOTICED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER DOOR WAS ON FIRE. THE WAS ABLE TO SUCCESSFULLY EXTINGUISH THE FIRE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TOWED TO THE DEALER, BUT THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT TO TOW THE VEHICLE BACK HOME. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND AN INVESTIGATOR WAS SENT TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE. THE INVESTIGATOR STATED THAT THE FIRE ORIGINATED NEAR THE HEATED MIRROR ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. THE DEALER WAS WAITING ON REPLACEMENT PARTS TO ARRIVE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO RECEIVE A RESPONSE. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 16,000.
