Transmission, shifted into 4th gear and would not shift out of 4th, Take the truck and inspect it if need be! Safety of my self and others as truck down shifted to 4th gear while driving speeds of 45mph, shot rpm’s over 6k. Problem has not been reproduced yet as of today 11/23/2024 Component wasn’t inspected by any option listed above but was mentioned in the NDOT accident report attached. No symptoms or warning likes before it appeared. Truck has NO warning lamps on including but not limited to check engine light or abs.

The contact owned a 2011 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle suddenly jerked, causing him to lose control of the vehicle and swerve into the next lane. As a result, the contact's vehicle was T-boned on the passenger's side by an oncoming vehicle. The air bags did deploy. A police report was filed, but no injuries were reported. The contact stated that although he did not seek treatment the day of the accident, he scheduled an appointment the following day after feeling soreness in a nondescript location. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard and deemed a total loss. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V075000 (Power Train), but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 160,000.

THE 10-SPEED 10R80 AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION THAT IS LOCATED IN MANY F150'S IS DEFECTIVE AS IT CAN SHIFT HARSHLY AND ERRATICALLY AT VERY HIGH SPEEDS, CAUSING VEHICLE CONTROL LOSS AND CAUSING ACCIDENTS. THE VEHICLE WILL OFTEN JERK, LUNGE, AND CAUSE LOSS OF CONTROL AS SOMETIMES IT WILL STOP ENGAGING. FORD DEALERS ARE HESITANT TO REPAIR THE PART AND NEGLIGENT WHEN IT COMES TO THE SAFETY OF THE DRIVERS. OFTEN NOT BLAMING IT TO THE FAULTY TRANSMISSION BUT OTHER 'NON RELATED FAULTS' THAT HAVE OCCURRED IN THE TRANSMISSION, HENCE NOT PROVIDING FREE REPAIR.

WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE AROUND 45 TO 50 MPH THE VEHICLE STARTED SKIDDING. THE BRAKES WERE NOT APPLIED WHEN THIS HAPPENED THE VEHICLE JUST STARTED SKIDDING ON ITS OWN. THE VEHICLE SOUNDED LIKE THE TRANSMISSION WAS COMING APART. I CONTACTED FORD AND TOLD THEM ABOUT THE ISSUE AND THEY SAID THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON THE VEHICLE. I TOLD THEM THE THIS WAS A SAFETY ISSUE AND THAT MY WIFE HAS BACK PROBLEMS AND THAT WHEN THE VEHICLE STARTED SKIDDING IT JERKED US FORWARD. IF THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN VEHICLES BEHIND US OR IF WE WERE GOING THRU AN INTERSECTION THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. THEY TOLD ME FORD WAS NOT RESPONSIBLE AND THAT I SHOULD TAKE THE VEHICLE IN AND HAVE IT SERVICED. WE WERE DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY WHEN THIS OCCURED.

NGINE WAS RACING WIDE OPEN WITH TACHOMETER PEGGED WAY BEYOND THE HIGHEST NUMBER LISTED. NO WARNING, NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, NOTHING. I WAS ABLE TO EXIT AND STOP IN A PARK AND RIDE LOT AND CALL MY WIFE. I WAS EXTREMELY SHAKEN AND AFRAID TO CONTINUE DRIVE. SHE AGREED TO PICK ME UP. I WAS ABLE TO LIMP BACK TO MY OFFICE AT 15 MPH BUT WAS SCARED TO DEATH. THIS HAD NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE AND ONLY AFTER A FIX THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING. I BELIEVE DAMAGE MAY HAVE BEEN DONE TO THE REAR-END, TRANSMISSION AND ENGINE NOT TO MENTION MY HIP AND SHOULDER ARE SORE AND PAINFUL FROM THE SEAT BEAT LOCKING. IT HONESTLY FELT LIKE I HAD BEEN REARENDED! I WILL NOT RETURN TO THAT DEALER AS I FEEL THEY WILL COVER THEIR MISTAKE AND NOT BE HONEST ABOUT WHAT DAMAGE WAS DONE TO MY VEHICLE BASED ON THEIR MISTAKE. A COMPLAINT WILL BE FLED WITH FORD MOTOR AND THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRANSPORTATION SAFETY ADMINISRATATION AS WELL AS THE CONSUMER PROTECTION AGENCY. I HAVE LOST ALL CONFIDENCE THE TRUCK AND HONESTLY FEEL I CAN NEVER DRIVE IT AGAIN. I WON'T EVEN DRIVE IT TO A SHOP AT THIS POINT. AT MY HOUSE, THE DRIVEWAY IS SLOPED. I HAD JUST PARKED THE TRUCK, TURNED THE ENGINE OFF, BUT LEFT KEY IN ACCESSORY POSITION. MY TWO DAUGHTERS WERE IN BACK SEAT (3 AND 8 YEARS OLD) WATCHING A MOVIE. I WALKED INTO MY GARAGE TO DROP OFF COFFEE, WENT BACK TO THE TRUCK TO RETRIEVE PASTRIES AND THEN WALKED THEM INTO GARAGE. I WAS OUT OF THE TRUCK FOR 3-4 MINUTES. I WENT BACK TO TRUCK AND TOOK MY THREE YEAR OLD OUT OF HER CAR SEAT. SHE SITS IN REAR SEAT, PASSENGER SIDE. I HAD HER IN MY ARMS WHEN I OPENED PASSENGER SIDE FRONT DOOR, REACHED ACROSS TO REMOVE KEYS. WHEN I REMOVED THE KEYS FROM THE IGNITION THE TRUCK BEGAN ROLLING DOWN THE DRIVEWAY. MY 8 YEAR OLD WAS 1/2 OUT OF THE TRUCK WHEN IT BEGAN TO ROLL. I QUICKLY PUT MY 3 YEAR OLD DOWN AND GRABBED THE 8 YEAR OLD OUT OF THE TRUCK. THE TRUCK WAS MAKING A METAL CLICKING SOUND THE ENTIRE TIME IT WAS ROLLING. TRUCK ROLLED DOWN THE DRIVEWAY, ACROSS THE STREET AND INTO THE NEIGHBORS YARD. THEIR TREE STOPPED THE TRUCK FROM ROLLING FURTHER INTO THE YARD AND THEIR HOUSE. THE TRUCK WAS STILL IN PARK WHEN I WENT INSIDE TO START IT BACK UP TO MOVE IT BACK INTO THE DRIVEWAY. I DROVE IT THE FORD DEALER ABOUT AN HOUR LATER. FORD DEALER AND FOMOCO WERE INVOLVED FOR SEVERAL MONTHS. EVENTUALLY A 'SPECIALIST' WAS FLOWN IN TO LOOK AT TRUCK. IN THE END, THEY CLAIM THERE ARE NO MECHANICAL DEFAULTS AND THEREFORE, THEY ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE. THEY ARE UNABLE TO ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS AS TO HOW THE TRUCK DID NOT MOVE FOR THE 3-4 MINUTES IT WAS ON THE DRIVEWAY WHEN I WAS BACK AND FORTH TO THE GARAGE. THEY ALSO HAVE NO EXPLANATION FOR HOW THE TRUCK ROLLED EVEN THOUGH IT WAS STILL IN PARK WHEN THIS HAPPENED. END RESULTS IS FORD CLAIMS THEY NEVER REPAIRED OR MODIFIED MY TRUCK. ON THE NIGHT OF DEC 20, 2013, I WAS TRAVELING SOUTH ON I81 NORTH OF SYRACUSE NY. ROAD CONDITIONS WERE NOT VERY GOOD. A BLOCK OF ICE FELL OFF A TRUCK AHEAD OF ME, EVASIVE ACTION WAS NOT POSSIBLE DUE TO ICE AND TRAFFIC VOLUME. THE ICE STRUCK THE ALTERNATOR WHICH IS CLEVERLY POSITIONED ABOUT 10" OFF THE GROUND ON THE LOWER LEFT FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO LOSE ELECTRICAL POWER SYSTEM BY SYSTEM. I CANT RECALL THE EXACT SEQUENCE, AS IT WAS ALL HAPPENING PRETTY FAST. EVENTUALLY, THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING SYSTEM LOST POWER. WHEN THIS HAPPENS ON THIS VEHICLE, YOU LOSE ALL STEERING CAPABILITY. ITS NOT LIKE ITS JUST MANUAL STEERING, THERE IS NO STEERING OTHER THAN THE ABILITY TO SLIGHTLY ALTER COURSE BY PULLING EXTREMELY HARD ON THE WHEEL. THE VEHICLE HAD NO LIGHTS, THE SHOULDERS WERE UNPLOWED, STOPPING WASN'T A GOOD IDEA. AS GOOD FORTUNE WOULD HAVE IT, THE CICERO NY EXIT PRESENTED ITSELF AT THAT MOMENT. I WAS ABLE TO PULL EXTREMELY HARD ON THE WHEEL AND WAS ABLE TO STEER THE SLIGHT CURVE. AT THE BOTTOM, I DISCOVERED I HAD NO BREAKS. I SHOT ACROSS THE USUALLY BUSY NY 31 AND INTO A KWIKSTOP, WHERE I STOMPED ON THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND CAME TO A STOP. WE SHORTLY DISCOVERED A FIRE UNDERNEATH THE ENGINE AND WERE ABLE TO EXTINGUISH IT WITH SNOW. I CANNOT BELIEVE A STEERING SYSTEM LIKE THIS IS PERMITTED. HAD I KNOWN IT HAD THIS SYSTEM AND ITS LIMITATIONS, ID NEVER HAVE BOUGHT THE CAR. IF MY SON AND I HAD BEEN KILLED THAT NIGHT, IT WOULD HAVE ALL BEEN CHALKED UP TO ROAD CONDITIONS. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED ON THE ENGINE IDLED EXCESSIVELY AND THE BEGAN TO SMOKE. THE FAILURE WAS EXPERIENCED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE ALSO STALLED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH. THE CONTACT WAS A ABLE TO DRIVE ONTO THE EMERGENCY LANE AND RESTART THE VEHICLE; HOWEVER, WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED THE TRANSMISSION DISENGAGED AND THE RPMS INCREASED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO LOCATE THE FAILURE. THE DEALER REPLACED THE TURBO CHARGER LINE; YET, THE FAILURE WAS NOT CORRECTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 23,800.
