ADVANCE TRAC WARNING LIGHT CAME ON SCREEN AS WIFE AND 2 YOUNG CHILDREN WERE DRIVING UNDER NORMAL CONDITIONS AT NIGHT. IMMEDIATELY WIFE LOST POWER STEERING AND COULD NOT AVOID A MAILBOX IN FRONT OF HOUSE . TRUCK IMMEDIATELY SHUT DOWN UPON CRASHING INTO MAILBOX AND WOULD NOT RESTART. . HOWEVER LIGHTS , CLUSTER IN DASH AND INTERIOR LIGHTS WOULD NOT SHUT OFF , WITH KEY REMOVED FROM IGNITION . WIFE OPENED DOORS . SHE INSERTED KEY INTO IGNITION WHILE TURNING SWITCHES AND KNOBS ATTEMPTING TO SHUT DOWN ACCESSORIES . NOTHING WOULD SHUT OFF . SYNC SYSTEM WAS ASKING SEVERAL UNINVITED QUESTIONS , WHILE CLUSTER WAS TURNING OFF AND ON , BLINKING , FLASHING RANDOM WARNING LIGHTS AND INDICATORS . BLINKERS WOULD NOT WORK . TOWED VEHICLE HOME . WITH KEY NOT IN IGNITION , SAME THINGS , LIGHTS WOULD NOT TURN OFF . REMOVED VEHICLE GROUND CABLE FROM BATTERY POST . PURCHASED AND INSTALLED BRAND NEW MOTORCRAFT BATTERY AND STILL HAVE SAME ISSUES . CAN NOT DRIVE TRUCK AT THIS POINT AS THIS IS A SAFETY NIGHTMARE WAITING TO HAPPEN TO UNSUSPECTING DRIVERS AND PASSENGERS . THERE WAS NO PREVIOUS WARNING OR PRE-EMPTIVE MEASURES THAT COULD HAVE PREVENTED THIS FROM OCCURRING . AFTER RESEARCHING THIS ISSUE , WE KNOW FORD IS AWARE OF IT . WE KNOW THEY WILL NOT RECALL THE RACK AND PINION STEERING THAT CAUSES THIS . PLEASE LET ME BE PERFECTLY CLEAR : WE DO NOT CARE NOR WANT TO BE PART OF A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT . WE ARE FORD LOVERS AND OWNERS SINCE A 1978 PINTO . WE ONLY WANT OUR TRUCK TO BE FIXED AT NO CHARGE TO US . WE DO NOT HAVE ANY INTEREST IN EXASPERATING THIS ISSUE WITH OTHER OWNERS TO FURTHER BASH THE FORD BRAND . WE ONLY WISH TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND GET IT FIXED WITH FORD AT THE VERY LEAST GIVING US A DISCOUNT ON THE LABOR OR PARTS . TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD F-150. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED. IN ADDITION, THE VEHICLE DRIFTED SLIGHTLY TO THE LEFT AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS HARD WHEN DEPRESSED. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO DRIFT AND CRASHED INTO THE FRONT OF ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE "SERVICE ADVANCETRAC" WARNING MESSAGE DISPLAYED. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000.

CONSUMER STATED THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING SYSTEM LOST POWER. *LN THE CONSUMER STATED WHILE DRIVING, A BLOCK OF ICE FELL OFF A TRUCK THAT WAS AHEAD OF HIM, AND EVASIVE ACTION WAS NOT POSSIBLE DUE TO THE ICE AND TRAFFIC VOLUME. THE ICE STUCK THE ALTERNATOR WHICH WAS POSITIONED 10 INCHES OFF THE GROUND ON THE LOWER LEFT FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. THEN VEHICLE THEN BEGAN TO LOSE ELECTRICAL POWER . EVENTUALLY, THE VEHICLE LOST ELECTRICAL POWER STEERING. HE WAS ABLE TO PULL HARD ON THE STEERING WHEEL AND WAS ABLE TO STEER A SLIGHT CURVE. HE THEN REALIZED HE HAD NO BRAKES, SO HE SHOT ACROSS THE HIGHWAY, WHICH WAS USUALLY BUSY, AND HE STOMPED ON THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND CAME TO A STOP. THE CONSUMER THEN DISCOVERED THERE WAS A FIRE UNDERNEATH THE ENGINE, BUT QUICKLY PUT IT OUT WITH THE SNOW. *JB

ON THE NIGHT OF DEC 20, 2013, I WAS TRAVELING SOUTH ON I81 NORTH OF SYRACUSE NY. ROAD CONDITIONS WERE NOT VERY GOOD. A BLOCK OF ICE FELL OFF A TRUCK AHEAD OF ME, EVASIVE ACTION WAS NOT POSSIBLE DUE TO ICE AND TRAFFIC VOLUME. THE ICE STRUCK THE ALTERNATOR WHICH IS CLEVERLY POSITIONED ABOUT 10" OFF THE GROUND ON THE LOWER LEFT FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO LOSE ELECTRICAL POWER SYSTEM BY SYSTEM. I CANT RECALL THE EXACT SEQUENCE, AS IT WAS ALL HAPPENING PRETTY FAST. EVENTUALLY, THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING SYSTEM LOST POWER. WHEN THIS HAPPENS ON THIS VEHICLE, YOU LOSE ALL STEERING CAPABILITY. ITS NOT LIKE ITS JUST MANUAL STEERING, THERE IS NO STEERING OTHER THAN THE ABILITY TO SLIGHTLY ALTER COURSE BY PULLING EXTREMELY HARD ON THE WHEEL. THE VEHICLE HAD NO LIGHTS, THE SHOULDERS WERE UNPLOWED, STOPPING WASN'T A GOOD IDEA. AS GOOD FORTUNE WOULD HAVE IT, THE CICERO NY EXIT PRESENTED ITSELF AT THAT MOMENT. I WAS ABLE TO PULL EXTREMELY HARD ON THE WHEEL AND WAS ABLE TO STEER THE SLIGHT CURVE. AT THE BOTTOM, I DISCOVERED I HAD NO BREAKS. I SHOT ACROSS THE USUALLY BUSY NY 31 AND INTO A KWIKSTOP, WHERE I STOMPED ON THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND CAME TO A STOP. WE SHORTLY DISCOVERED A FIRE UNDERNEATH THE ENGINE AND WERE ABLE TO EXTINGUISH IT WITH SNOW. I CANNOT BELIEVE A STEERING SYSTEM LIKE THIS IS PERMITTED. HAD I KNOWN IT HAD THIS SYSTEM AND ITS LIMITATIONS, ID NEVER HAVE BOUGHT THE CAR. IF MY SON AND I HAD BEEN KILLED THAT NIGHT, IT WOULD HAVE ALL BEEN CHALKED UP TO ROAD CONDITIONS.
