The vehicle was being driven with the cruise control set. Upon approaching an intersection on a four lane divided roadway I tapped the brakes to deactivate the cruise control. When pressure was applied to the brake pedal the cruise control did not disengage but the vehicle accelerated instead. I released pressure to the brake pedal and the vehicle continued at the cruise control set speed. I again applied pressure to the brake pedal and the vehicle again accelerated. To avoid striking stopped traffic I moved into the right turn lane with the vehicle continuing to accelerate as I attempted to brake the vehicle. Upon entering the intersection my vehicle struck another pickup truck broadside. I believe speed at the point of impact was 60 plus miles per hour. My vehicle then continued on and struck two utility poles. Both vehicles were damaged beyond repair. There appears to be a problem with the speed control system as it would not disengage but caused the vehicle to accelerate. Googling the same problem with other Ford F-150's I found several reports of the exact problem. I ordered the vehicle new and it was maintained by the Ford dealership. There were no known problems. Mileage is 31,900. At this time the vehicle has not been inspected for a cause but is available for inspection. The vehicle is in the towing company lot. This accident could have very easily resulted in fatalities. This accident should have never happened!!!

I was driving with the cruise control engaged set at 60 mph. Approached an intersection with traffic light with traffic stopped in both westbound lanes. Tapped the brake to deactivate the cruise control. The cruise control did not turn off but instead tapping the brake caused the truck to accelerate. Released the brake pressure and reapplied brake pressure. This action again caused the truck to accelerate. To avoid hitting stopped traffic I moved to the right hand turn lane which was free of traffic. The truck continued to accelerate as I applied brake pressure. As my truck entered the intersection a collision occurred with a northbound vehicle. The collision severely damaged my vehicle and the struck vehicle with injuries to myself and the other driver. Crash speed had to be over 60 mph. This was all captured by a traffic camera. My F-150 had 31,900 on the odometer. It has been dealership maintained since new and has no known defects other than this incident. No lights, no warnings. The truck has not been Inspected since the incident. The truck has heavy damage. This incident could have easily caused the deaths of myself and the other driver. Searches online have turned up the same complaints from other F-150 owners. I have photos on my email but can not get them loaded to this form. You need to see them!

AFTER SITTING OVERNIGHT, AND TURNING ON THE TRUCK THE VACUUM PUMP IS EXTREMELY LOUD. IF DRIVING THE TRUCK IMMEDIATELY THE BRAKES WILL NOT WORK UNLESS PUSHED VERY HARD. AFTER ABOUT 3 MINUTES THE SOUND DIMINISHES AND THE BRAKES WORK ADEQUATELY.

I WAS APPROACHING A RED LIGHT AT AN INTERSECTION ALMOST IN FRONT OF MY WORK IN TOWN. I WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH ON BOLL WEEVIL CIRCLE AND APPLIED BRAKES WITH PLENTY OF ROOM TO STOP. THE TRUCK BRAKES DID NOT WORK ONCE THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED. THE ENGINE WAS AT FAST IDLE, PLACED IN DRIVE AND THE BRAKES WOULD NOT FUNCTION. THIS LURCHED THE TRUCK FORWARD WHILE EXTREME PRESSURE WAS APPLIED TO STOP IT. DANGEROUS IN A PARKING SETTING WHERE A PEDESTRIAN IS WALKING IN FRONT OR BEHIND THE TRUCK. AS I REFLECT BACK IN THE PAST WHEN PULLING A TRAILER IT HIT THE BACKEND OF ANOTHER VEHICLE IN AN EMERGENCY STOPPING SITUATION ON THE INTERSTATE. TOOK THE TRUCK TO FORD DEALER WHICH DIAGNOSED IT AS A BRAKE VACUUM PUMP FAILURE. THE ECO BOOST ENGINE IS TURBO CHARGED WHICH ROBS THE VACUUM SYSTEM OF NEEDED VACUUM. TO SUPPLEMENT THE NEED FOR VACUUM THIS VACUUM PUMP WAS ENGINEERED INTO THE SYSTEM TO PROVIDE ADDITIONAL VACUUM. IF IT FAILURES THE BRAKES FAIL ALSO. THE 2014 MODELS HAVE BEEN REENGINEERED TO A MECHANICAL PUMP ELEMINATING THE ELECTRICAL PUMP. THE FORD SERVICE MAN SAID THAT THERE HAVE BEEN A RANGE OF NUMEROUS BRAKE FAILURES DUE TO THIS PUMP CONFIGURATION. THE FORD GARAGE CHARGED $832.57 TO GET US BACK ON THE ROAD AND FOR US TO HAVE A SAFE TRIP.

AT MY HOUSE, THE DRIVEWAY IS SLOPED. I HAD JUST PARKED THE TRUCK, TURNED THE ENGINE OFF, BUT LEFT KEY IN ACCESSORY POSITION. MY TWO DAUGHTERS WERE IN BACK SEAT (3 AND 8 YEARS OLD) WATCHING A MOVIE. I WALKED INTO MY GARAGE TO DROP OFF COFFEE, WENT BACK TO THE TRUCK TO RETRIEVE PASTRIES AND THEN WALKED THEM INTO GARAGE. I WAS OUT OF THE TRUCK FOR 3-4 MINUTES. I WENT BACK TO TRUCK AND TOOK MY THREE YEAR OLD OUT OF HER CAR SEAT. SHE SITS IN REAR SEAT, PASSENGER SIDE. I HAD HER IN MY ARMS WHEN I OPENED PASSENGER SIDE FRONT DOOR, REACHED ACROSS TO REMOVE KEYS. WHEN I REMOVED THE KEYS FROM THE IGNITION THE TRUCK BEGAN ROLLING DOWN THE DRIVEWAY. MY 8 YEAR OLD WAS 1/2 OUT OF THE TRUCK WHEN IT BEGAN TO ROLL. I QUICKLY PUT MY 3 YEAR OLD DOWN AND GRABBED THE 8 YEAR OLD OUT OF THE TRUCK. THE TRUCK WAS MAKING A METAL CLICKING SOUND THE ENTIRE TIME IT WAS ROLLING. TRUCK ROLLED DOWN THE DRIVEWAY, ACROSS THE STREET AND INTO THE NEIGHBORS YARD. IN THE END, THEY CLAIM THERE ARE NO MECHANICAL DEFAULTS AND THEREFORE, THEY ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE. THEY ARE UNABLE TO ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS AS TO HOW THE TRUCK DID NOT MOVE FOR THE 3-4 MINUTES IT WAS ON THE DRIVEWAY WHEN I WAS BACK AND FORTH TO THE GARAGE. COMPLETE BRAKE FAILURE. RIGHT FRONT BRAKE PAD HAD OVER 1/3 PAD MATERIAL LEFT. PAD MATERIAL DETACHED FROM THE METAL PAD BACKING PLATE. THEN THE PAD MATERIAL GOT JAMMED IN BETWEEN THE BRAKE CALIPER BRACKET AND THE ROTOR. THE LOWER CALIPER PISTON BROKE WHEN I TRIED TO STOP AFTER THIS HAPPENED. HOWEVER, IT DOES SHOW SERVICE BRAKE APPLIED AND CONTINUAL ACCELERATION AT THE SAME TIME WHICH I CAN PROVE WAS NOT DONE BY ME! WHILE TRAVELING WITH THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC (40-45 MILES) AN HOUR I HAD A COLLISION WITH CARS IN FRONT OF ME. AS A RESULT OF THE COLLISION I WAS KNOCKED UNCONSCIOUS. DAZED AND INJURED I COULD NOT RECALL THE DETAILS OF THE MOMENTS JUST BEFORE THE COLLISION, TO THE POLICE. ALL THAT I COULD REMEMBER WAS TRYING DESPERATELY TO STOP THE VEHICLE BUT IT WOULD NOT STOP. AFTER THE ACCIDENT NO ONE SEEMS TO BELIEVE ME AND EVEN MY INSURANCE CARRIER IS NOT INTERESTED IN LOOKING INTO THE POSSIBILITY THAT THE BRAKES FAILED OR THE CRUISE CONTROL MALFUNCTIONED. *TR THE CONSUMER REFERENCED NHTSA ACTION NUMBER EA15006.
