I HAVE A 2011 FORD F150 ECOBOOST. I RECEIVED A EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR ISSUES OCCURRING WITH THE ELECTRIC VACUUM PUMP. I HAVE DIAGNOSED AN ISSUE WITH THE BRAKES AFTER STARTING THE TRUCK UP. I STARTED THE TRUCK UP PUT IT IN REVERSE BACKED DOWN THE DRIVEWAY AND LOST ALL ABILITY TO BRAKE AND STOP THE TRUCK. IF THERE WAS A VEHICLE OR INDIVIDUAL BEHIND ME THERE COULD HAVE BEEN AN ACCIDENT WHERE INJURY OR DEATH COULD HAVE OCCURRED DUE TO THE INABILITY TO STOP THE TRUCK WITH THE BRAKE PEDAL. I BROUGHT THE TRUCK TO THE DEALERSHIP WITH THE ISSUE AND THEY IGNORED THE ELECTRIC VACUUM PUMP STATING THAT IT WAS THE MASTER PISTON AND IT WOULD COST 700 DOLLARS TO FIX. AFTER DOING RESEARCH I BELIEVE I WAS LIED TOO AFTER OTHERS HAVE REENACTED THE SAME SITUATION THAT HAS OCCURRED TO ME. IF THE BRAKING ISSUE OCCURS MORE THAN ONCE I WILL ESCALATE THIS ISSUE TO HIGHER AUTHORITY INDIVIDUALS AT FORD. THIS ISSUE MUST BE FIXED BEFORE INJURY, DEATH OR LITIGATION OCCURS.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD F-150. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE BRAKES FAILED TO STOP THE VEHICLE IN A TIMELY MANNER WHEN THE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT HAD TO DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL TO THE FLOOR WHILE SWERVING TO ALLOW MORE TIME FOR THE STOP TO OCCUR. THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT FLUID LEAKED FROM THE MASTER CYLINDER INTO THE BRAKE BOOSTER, WHICH DEPLETED THE BRAKE FLUID IN THE MASTER CYLINDER AND LED TO THE BRAKE FAILURE. THE MASTER CYLINDER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000.

THE TRUCK BRAKES DID NOT WORK ONCE THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED. THE ENGINE WAS AT FAST IDLE, PLACED IN DRIVE AND THE BRAKES WOULD NOT FUNCTION. THIS LURCHED THE TRUCK FORWARD WHILE EXTREME PRESSURE WAS APPLIED TO STOP IT. DANGEROUS IN A PARKING SETTING WHERE A PEDESTRIAN IS WALKING IN FRONT OR BEHIND THE TRUCK. IT JUMPS FORWARDS OR BACK, DEPENDING IF DRIVE OR REVERSE IS SELECTED. AS TIME WENT BY THE BRAKES BECAME WEAKER WHEN APPLYING AT STOPS. AS I REFLECT BACK IN THE PAST WHEN PULLING A TRAILER IT HIT THE BACKEND OF ANOTHER VEHICLE IN AN EMERGENCY STOPPING SITUATION ON THE INTERSTATE. THE TRUCK WOULD PARK WELL IN THE GARAGE, BUT WHEN PULLING OUT YOU HAVE TO BE AWARE OF IT LURCHING INTO THE HOUSE OR ANOTHER VEHICLE. TOOK THE TRUCK TO FORD DEALER WHICH DIAGNOSED IT AS A BRAKE VACUUM PUMP FAILURE. THE ECO BOOST ENGINE IS TURBO CHARGED WHICH ROBS THE VACUUM SYSTEM OF NEEDED VACUUM. TO SUPPLEMENT THE NEED FOR VACUUM THIS VACUUM PUMP WAS ENGINEERED INTO THE SYSTEM TO PROVIDE ADDITIONAL VACUUM. IF IT FAILURES THE BRAKES FAIL ALSO. THE 2014 MODELS HAVE BEEN REENGINEERED TO A MECHANICAL PUMP ELEMINATING THE ELECTRICAL PUMP. THE FORD SERVICE MAN SAID THAT THERE HAVE BEEN A RANGE OF NUMEROUS BRAKE FAILURES DUE TO THIS PUMP CONFIGURATION. THE FORD GARAGE CHARGED $832.57 TO GET US BACK ON THE ROAD AND FOR US TO HAVE A SAFE TRIP.

THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT THEY HAD THIS SAME PROBLEM WITH NUMEROUS OTHER TRUCKS.I FEEL THAT THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN A RECALL.

THE DEALER WAS VERY PROFESSIONAL AND COURTEOUS. PROBLEM MENTIONED IN TSB 15-0105 AS STATED ON MY BILL.

WHEN I FIRST START MY F150 2011 AND MOVE IT THE BRAKE PEDAL IS HARD AS A ROCK IT WILL TAKE AT LEAST A FEW MINUTES TO GET BACK TO NORMAL, BUT IT HAPPENS ALL THE TIME WHEN FIRST START UP. I DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT A VACUUM PUMP THAT PROVIDES POWER BRAKING GETS CORRODED. IN MY OPINION THIS PART SHOULD BE RECALL BECAUSE IS A SAFETY ISSUE YOU COULD LOOSE BRAKING, I CHECKED ON THE PART AND IT COST AROUND 600.00. THIS ISSUE SHOULD BE LOOKED INTO BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT.

I THEN DID A LITTLE RESEARCH ON-LINE AND DETERMINED HUNDREDS OF OTHER 2011 F-150 ECOBOOST OWNERS HAVE COMPLAINED OF THE SAME ISSUE AND IT WAS DETERMINED THAT IT WAS A FLAWED DESIGN OF THE VACUUM PUMP. THIS IS A VERY EXPENSIVE PART THAT IS DIRECTLY RELATED TO SAFETY UPON COLD BRAKING. WHY HAS THE NHTSA DONE NOTHING ABOUT THIS KNOWN PROBLEM FOR THE PAST 2 YEARS WHEN THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN A RECALL? I HAD TO PAY OVER $500 FOR A NEW VACUUM PUMP THAT SHOULD NEVER GO BAD

THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME ON SEVERAL DIFFERENT OCCASIONS NOW WHERE WHEN THE TRUCK HAS BEEN IDLE NOT RUNNING FOR APPROXIMATELY 8 OR MORE HOURS, THE BRAKES SEIZE AND DO NOT WORK FOR THE FIRST FEW MINUTES. I BELIEVE THAT THIS IS CAUSED BY THE ELECTRONIC VACUUM PUMP FOR THE BRAKES MALFUNCTIONING. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN BECAUSE IF THE BRAKES SHOULD GIVE OUT WHILE I AM ON A MAIN ROAD AND GOING FULL SPEED, LIVES COULD BE IN DANGER.
