For months my vehicle has had intermittent loss of power steering making it nearly impossible to control direction. On Jan. 29, 2026, I ran into the back of a vehicle that stopped suddenly and due to sudden power steering loss, I wasn't able to swerve and avoid collision. I was issued an infraction for this incident and had to file an insurance claim to repair the front end damage to my vehicle. I brought my vehicle to an independent repair shop who confirmed the issue and said the entire steering column would need to be replaced and would cost approximately $3,000.00. I was also notified that Ford issued Safety Recall Campaign/NHTSA #14S05/14V284 for this exact issue. I contacted the Ford dealership where I purchased my vehicle and they said my VIN is not included in that recall. It seems too coincidental that my 2011 Ford Escape is experiencing the very same issue that prompted a safety recall for thousands of 2008-2010 Ford Escapes but not mine. I contacted Ford customer service and was issued escalation Case #CXH-07666011-H9L5H3.

My young daughter lost control of our 2011 FORD HYBRID ESCAPE vehicle with 94770 miles after starting the vehicle on moving off. She crashed into the sidewalk to avoid hitting pedestrians. ALL ELECTRIC POWER STEERING ASSISTANCE was lost. Car was taken to AutoNation Ford, St Petersburg, FL. Service personnel stated and provided documentation showing that there was no recall for my daughter's vehicle VIN. However, there were recalls for this similar problem on other Ford vehicles and FORD HYBRID ESCAPE vehicles like hers. Please see attachment. The contact owned a 2011 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while driving at 25 MPH, as the contact was approaching a traffic light, the brake pedal was depressed; however, it failed to stop as intended. The contact moved to the other lane when the vehicle came to a stop. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to AutoZone and the contact was informed that three sensors needed to be replaced. Two sensors were replaced; however, the ABS sensor was not replaced due to cost. The contact stated that on the drive home, an abnormal odor was coming from the vehicle. While the vehicle was parked, the vehicle was consumed by fire and destroyed. The Fire and Police departments were called. A fire report was filed; the Fire Department stated the cause of the fire was due to faulty wiring. The contact notified her insurance company and the vehicle was towed to an unknown location. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 170,000.

The contact owns a 2011 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving at 50 MPH, he heard abnormal knocking sounds coming from the engine. The oil pressure warning light was illuminated. The contact pulled to the nearby gas station where an independent mechanic inspected the vehicle and informed the contact that the engine had thrown a rod and there were metal shavings in the engine oil. The contact stated the failure increased significantly while driving at 50 MPH. The contact veered to the side of the road and unlocked the doors. Another driver informed the contact that there there was a fire underneath the vehicle. The contact was able to extinguish the fire with a fire extinguisher. There were no injuries sustained. The contact stated upon towing the vehicle there was a significant amount of oil leaked from the oil pan onto the tow truck vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the dealer who diagnosed that the engine blew up and had shattered. The dealer diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced and additional repairs needed to be completed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 151,000.

got rear ended/t-boned in january 2022 at low rate of speed, started having issues for the first time since 2011, check engine light comes on periodically since the accident, power steering has gone in and out periodically since the accident, engine seems to stumble periodically since March 2022, AC has never worked since 2011, recently (june 3rd 2022) the tire pressure sensor light has come on despite air pressure being adequate in all 4 tires, took car to a collision specialist and they repaired cosmetic damages but cleared 3 codes and did not repair/resolve any of the actual issues affecting drivability and safety because they could not attribute it to the mechanism of accident, took the print out of codes in to my normal mechanic when I got the tires and oil changed June 3rd 2022 and he said if there were no active codes I would have to take it to the dealership, yesterday June 24th 2022 while waiting for a light to change the car pedals suddenly stopped working, car stayed idling at a stop while still in drive, would not work even when shifted into park, drive, or reverse, air still blowed, music still playing, a horrid smell started to fill the car, turned everything completely off and turned hazards on and waited for 2 minutes then turned the car back, car resumed working with tire pressure light still on and smell still coming out of engine. Car now smells constantly of putrid burning plastic/carpet and stumbles frequently, had the car stumbled while at a high rate of speed during rush hour, both mine, my infant son, and the other drivers lives' could've been devastated or lost. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact was knocked unconscious and was transported from the vehicle to the hospital with the assistance of emergency units. A police vehicle was filed. The contact sustained fractured vertebrae at the base of the neck, and several lacerations on the buttocks and face. The vehicle was towed to a tow lot, where it was totaled. ON DECEMBER 22, 2019 AT APPROXIMATELY 6 PM, OUR SON WAS LOADING GROCERIES HE HAD JUST PURCHASED INTO THE BACK OF THE ESCAPE, WHEN HE CLOSED THE REAR LIFT GATE WINDOW, IT SIMPLY SHATTERED INTO SMALL PIECES. MY SON SUFFERED A SMALL ABRASION ON ONE KNUCKLE BUT IT COULD HAVE BEEN MUCH WORSE. THERE HAD BEEN NO CRACKS OR OTHER SIGNS OF DEFECT IN THE WINDOW. THERE IS A FORD TECHNICAL SERVICES BULLETIN (TSB-11-2-9) ON THIS ISSUE BUT WHEN WE CALLED A LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP AND MENTIONED THE TSB, THEY SAID THAT FORD WOULD NOT PAY T O FIX IT AND THAT THE TSB WAS MERELY INSTRUCTIONS TO THE SERVICE TECHNICIANS ON HOW TO FIX IT. THIS IS BULL. WE ARE AWARE THAT NHTSA HAS RECEIVED MORE THAN 40 COMPLAINS ON THIS ISSUE. OUR SON WAS INJURED, THIS IS A KNOWN SAFETY DEFECT AND FORD SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE. WHILE DRIVING, THE ABS AND TRACTION CONTROL ERROR LIGHTS APPEARED ON MY DASH FOLLOWED BY CLICKING NOISES. SHORTLY AFTER MY POWER STEERING STOPPED WORKING WHILE MY VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION. I WAS MAKING A TURN AT A MODERATE SPEED AND THE SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER STEERING ALMOST CAUSING ME TO CRASH. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE BUT IT WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT AND I STRAINED MYSELF AND PULLED SEVERAL UPPER BODY MUSCLES IN THE PROCESS. I AM A SMALL WOMAN AND WAS BARELY ABLE TO MANUALLY TURN THE WHEEL. I HAVE DETERMINED THAT THE TORQUE SENSOR IS DEFECTIVE BUT MY VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL FOR THIS PART. EVEN THOUGH MY VIN IS NOT SHOWING ITS ASSOCIATED WITH THE RECALL. IT IS A 2011 ESCAPE AND I BELIEVE THERE ARE MORE VEHICLES INCLUDING MINE, THAT SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THIS RECALL. THE DEFECTIVE PART ALMOST CAUSE A TRAGIC ACCIDENT, AND ALTHOUGH I AVOIDED THAT, I DID INJURE MYSELF IN AN EFFORT TO STEER MY VEHICLE WITHOUT THE ASSIST OF THE POWER STEERING. SUBSEQUENTLY, THE POWER STEERING RANDOMLY ENGAGED TWICE WITHIN A WEEK OF IT ORIGINALLY GOING OUT. IF YOU TURN THE CAR OFF AND ON AGAIN, THAT SOMETIMES FIXES IT BUT OFTEN TIMES IT WILL IMMEDIATELY CLICK AGAIN AND THE STEERING WILL TURN OFF. FORD STAFF LAUGH SAYING THEY GET LOTS OF COMPLAINTS BUT SAY NOTHING IS BEING DONE AND GIVE ME A BILL FOR 1200 DOLLARS. I ALREADY SPENT 30K ON THE CAR AND I DO T HAVE ANY MORE MONEY TO GIVE FORD SO MY CAR IS WORTHLESS AND DANGEROUS TO DRIVE. MY WIFE WAS IN A ACCIDENT INVOLVING HER 2011 FORD ESCAPE. SHE WAS HIT IN THE FRONT END BY ANOTHER VEHICLE AND HER CAR WAS TOTALED. HER AIR BAG DIDN'T DEPLOY!! SHE WAS BEAT UP AND BRUISED QUITE A BIT BUT WAS LUCKY TO NOT HAVE ANY BROKEN BONES. I BELIEVE THAT IF EITHER VEHICLE WERE TRAVELING FASTER THAN THEY WERE SHE MIGHT HAD BEEN SEVERELY INJURED IF NOT KILLED. I SENT FORD THE INFO INCLUDING THE VIN NUMBER 3 DAYS AGO AND HAVE NOT HAD A REPLY. DO YOU THINK THIS WAS AN ANOMALY OR HAVE YOU HEARD OTHER FORD ESCAPES WITH THE SAME ISSUE?? MY WIFE HAD STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN AND SAID SHE LOOKED BOTH WAYS THEN PROCEEDED TO PULL MAKING A LEFT TURN WHEN THE OTHER VEHICLE APPROACHED HER FROM HER LEFT AND STRUCK HER IN THE FRONT END ON AN ANGLE. THE ENTIRE FRONT GRILL AND BUMPER WERE BOTH KNOCKED OFF PUSHING THE RADIATOR INTO THE ENGINE. MY WIFE WAS CITED FOR FAILURE TO YIELD.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2011 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE STATIONARY, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY EXPERIENCED UNINTENDED ACCELERATION AND CRASHED INTO A STONE WALL. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED A FRACTURED LEFT ARM, VARIOUS BODY BRUISES, RIGHT AND LEFT LEG INJURIES, AND FACIAL LACERATIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND TOWED. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED.
